Phone doesn't look so bad. Wait for the official reveal before bashing it.

But the rumored price, specs, and features are kind of weak. Doesn't seem like an upgrade from the 6P for a much higher price. The Nexus 6 to 6P was a solid upgrade. 6P is far more refined and cheaper MSRP. Pixel, though... I'll wait and see but I'm not excited.

Truthfully, I don't know what would justify me buying the Pixel XL at $700+. I really hope they show something game changing or absolutely premium. Give me a reason to upgrade my 6P.

This looks like several steps backwards for no reason...

To whom is this product targeted?

Why would anybody want a dated, baffling design like this, for that price?

Damn... Get it together google...
You should have put those Motorola design folks to work when you had the chance.

There is no other way to put it, it just looks ugly. I always call out Apple for their ridiculously large top and bottom bezels and I would be a hypocrite if I didn't call Google out on this too. To be fair though this is kind of going back to the design of older Nexus phones, the 4, 5 and my 7 all have quite large bezels. The 6 and 6p bucked the trend and included duel speakers and will always be better for it.

I'm not upgrading this year anyway but I plan to go back to the Nexus/Pixel line from my Moto X so I hope next year's model is a little better. Will be interesting to see what improvements come with 7.1 though, and whether the launcher comes with any more features.

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
None of them show any human face up close in normal lightning. Probably can't depict skin color naturally.

What did I tell you about google and cheap cameras.

I think they are more supposed to be new Wallpaper for the new included Wallpaper app vs camera photos.

People don't want close up photos of random people for Wallpaper.

So these are even taken by the phone?

No I am pretty sure some of them are.

Look at this shitty panorama with ultra low dynamic range and no detail in the foilage,
pixelteaser-walls-35.jpg

It has to be taken by a 30 cent camera module.

Not sure why people are going "At that price I'd buy an iPhone"

Droids are a totally different (and more open on their platform) beast.

I would never go from Droid to an iPhone over pricing.

I think for the average consumer the openness of Android isn't really that important.

The argument is they can get cheaper Android phones, but it's clear Google would be trying to market their phone on the same level as an iPhone or a Samsung phone, not as a cheaper alternative (although I agree with arguments in the thread that their past marketing has been poor/this new strategy won't help anything if it doesn't improve). That said I'd wait until we know the full details about the phone first and have the pricing confirmed before making these comments.

Can we please stop calling Android phones 'Droids'?

Unless you mean you actually use a Droid Branded Verizon phone? haha

The white fronted iPhones honestly look just as bad or worse. I'm sure they will have a black version that will look nice.

Are they also expected to reveal the Nexus 7 successor at this event? I'm honestly more interested in that than the new phones.

The rumor of a Huawei made Nexus 7 has gained a lot of steam lately. If it's going to happen, this would be the event.

This event is going to be real hardware heavy.

Pixel
Pixel XL
Daydream Headset
Google Home launch
4k Chromecast
Maybe, 7in Tablet

I guess gone are the days of Nexus being a great phone at a good price. I think it was their strategy to get people used to the nexus devices by offering them cheap and couple versions later up the price.

The 6p was priced fairly high despite not having a great screen or expandable memory.

It better be on par with other high end phones if they wanna get my money.

I think you are hugely overestimating the number of Nexus devices that get sold.

Considering the low volume of Nexus phone being sold, Google's pricing strategy is just to make 3rd party Android phones seem more valuable. "We made an iPhone like device with headphone jack at the iPhone price, now look at how much better these other 3rd party devices are just for a tiny bit more!" Google themselves don't really care to make money from these devices just as long as the Android brand stays strong -- they make money from people using their platform.

If the leaked shots are true, at least there isn't a camera hump that's still present on iPhone.

Why didn't any one noticed that?

I don't like the hardware design of these phones at all (small screens, big bezels, no forward facing stereo speakers, ugly design) and the prices seem crazy but after thinking for the last 24 hours I'm still pretty excited to see what Google has to show. IMO, stock Android is by far the best mobile OS available and I can't wait to see the tweaks that Google puts on this.

It's obvious from the teasers that customization is even more important now. We've seen all the new wallpapers and how you can set them to cycle on a daily basis. Also, it looks like Google is going to double down on Live Cases and things like that. I also have a strange feeling that the large glass area on the back has some sort of extra functionality or feature such as being cutomizable or having some sort of magnets or interaction with Live Cases or the Daydream headset.

I think (hope?) that the amount of cool stuff that Google has planned for this phone and is building on top of Android will surprise people (after all Nougat has been out for a while now and the Nexus phones always launched with the new OS updates) and software is more important than hardware so even though this hardware looks bad I still have a bit of faith.

But if it has no headphone jack you'll buy it day one, right?

If Motorola came with an upgraded version of the Nexus 6 (better specs and screen), I'd pay full price again. That's how much I fucking love the Nexus 6.

This! Still using it and it works perfectly.

However, I'm also pretty hyped for the new Pixel phone. I don't get the (extreme) hate in here tho. Like I'm not happy with those bezels either, but maybe just wait for the final presentation before bashing it?

Free 10TB storage space for 2 years... (normally $99/yr)

Wouldn't do anything for me.

We're not allowed to react to rumors anymore?

Thus is neogaf (aka a bunch of nerds). They bash the hell out of everything for no reason. It makes them feel cool.

Everyone loved the 6p once they actually got to see it.

After iPhone removing the headphone jack and Note 7's exploding, I looked to this as my next phone but man these leaks are disappointing =/

What's the point of all this major marketing of its going to be Verizon exclusive. I thought they would have learned from past Nexus exclusives.
