A teacher living outside Chicago, she added that she had "scoured everything" about why vaccines might be harmful and had become "pretty convinced." She chose not to vaccinate based on the results of her research but had read only material that cast doubt.

"I put my kids at risk," she said. "I wish that I had taken more time to research from both sides before my children were born."

Her three children — all under the age of 7 — are now fully vaccinated, after an aggressive regimen to bring them up to date on recommended shots.

More people need to be aware of how stupid the anti-vaccination movement is. I'm just glad this mom was able to reverse course before something worse might have happened.

What's scary is how near the end of the video, the reporter mentions that after she got her kids vaccinated, she lost some friends over the issue.

Good grief.

There are no both sides in this discussion lady. One side is full of nutjobs, the other will save your kids from disease.

I'm sorry but this is the problem. You don't, as a lay person, really have the ability to research modern medical issues. Nor are there "two sides" to this issue. There are people who are right, and then there's this fringe of wackos.

I wonder what kind of sources her research included.

I highly doubt that those anti-vaccination are scientific, but instead some stupid housewife-arguments..

Well thank goodness no one died.

I wonder how long we'll be dealing with anti- vaxxers before they are as obscure as the flat-earthers.

What "both sides"? The batshit moron side versus the actual proven science side?

At least she had the guts to admit she was wrong.

Other anti-vaxxers blame other things if their children get sick. AND STILL DON'T VACCINATE THEM.

I should show this to one of my co workers who every time I bring up the subject his face goes beet red and then he starts yelling out loud about how they are trying to kill us and that the holocaust never happened. I should also film his reaction and put it on youtube. Its quite the glimpse into insanty.

I genuinely do not understand how there can be an anti-vaccination movement in 2016 America--of all the things to cast doubt upon in this day and age, the positive effects of vaccines is certainly not one of them.

Pretty sure I can bring up some xanga sites that can support the anti-vax movement. It will be as "scientific" as any other anti-vax page, I am sure.

She was also a fucking teacher. How can you justify educating today's youth if you can't educate yourself on something that is so damn easy to figure out?

How long before anti-vax claims she is part of a false flag to lure unsuspecting parents into getting there kids vaccinated thus causing chem-trails, fluoride deposits, autism, Illuminati, Reptilian Skin?

my brothers wife is an anti-vaccine nut, and she refuses to allow their kids to be vaccinated. I feel bad for my nieces and nephew

The only way anti-vaxxers will learn is when they get burned. Too bad her children had to get sick before this moron got a clue, but at least it wasn't something even worse.

How does you brother feel about this madness?

The end result of the "both sides" deserve equal air time. At least with illnesses like this, it happens quickly and all of at once versus climate change. That may change too slowly for people to see the problem at hand.

If she only looked at one side, she did no research. By definition, research means you look at both sides and draw a conclusion.

I couldn't make it past the "High school vaccine propaganda being sent to parents!" part. I just imagine someone flailing around yelling like Alex Jones while typing that.

Funny you say that, a little bit further down the page there is a Alex Jones segment about a nurse claiming that vaccines are killing babies in the NICU.

Rotovirus is a nasty little thing, and our kids were born when BC and Alberta were just phasing in vaccinations. Our oldest didn't get it, second oldest we paid for it and it was included in the set of vaccinations by the time the third was born.

We paid for it the second time around, even though it was not recommended or included at the time, because it sucks. I think our kid was about 9 months old when she got it, and she was puking and shitting everywhere and crying constantly because she didn't know what was going on. Lasted for a few days, and gravol suppositories and pedialite only helped so much.

Isn't being a teacher a pretty broad term? Especially in the US? Everyone who says a few sentences in front of more than one child is suddenly a teacher.

Agreed.
Being able to admit being wrong is admirable. Sucks that the kids got rotavirus, but at least they're more safe now.
