Ban the joker.gif (not the user) pls

The ASA has the power to have advertisements it believes are in breach of its code of conduct withdrawn, and prevent them from appearing again. If an advertiser refuses to comply with an ASA ruling, it can impose sanctions, such as asking internet search websites to remove a marketer's paid-for search ads.

Oof.

To this day the steam store page still shows those two videos with the old UI that I would argue do not actually represent the look, feel and pace of what the game became.

Really all the ASA is going to do is tell them to pull it down/replace them with something a little more accurate.

While I hope they get what's coming to them, the article's mention of complaints about a lack of load screens being represented in trailers or the steam page is absurd. Come on, what did you expect?

Yeah, it's kind of insane they still have that trailer on the steam page which is absolutely not indicative of the actual experience of playing the game.

Given a free pass as they turned out to be very enjoyable anyways.
Well and at least Bioshock Infinite doesn't have that original trailer on their steam page.

As someone who didn't closely follow NMS before launch, I don't really feel lied to by Hello Games. It's one of the least satisfying games I've ever played on it's own merits, sure, but I don't feel lied to.

Caught up with some of those Reddit threads after I sold it though and.. yeesh

For anyone not from the UK, the ASA is an independent organisation, not a government one and has no power besides getting them to stop them running the adverts.

Good. Roast them.

Regardless what you think of the game, it was misrepresented to consumers in its advertising, and they collected buckets of money for it. that is not okay.

Did any trailers outright lie though? I always thought it was just live appearances and event demos that established the features that were later taken out.

I'm surprised this is happening for No Man's Sky when it didn't happen for Gearbox and Aliens: Colonial Marines.

They don't have to have "lied" per say, if they were intentionally misleading, it's enough.

The Steam store page uses footage from the live events as trailers for the game, so yes they do.

I dont agree with the witch hunt

I think the loss of players and rejection in the market with high return rates and harsh criticism was enough

Is it really wise to pile onto an indie studio and make an example out of them?

Honestly this needs happen with a lot of games.

Many features are talked about but absent when final product release, wit no mention they didn't make it to final product inbetween.

Really? Shit, someone tell them about Bioshock Infinite, Watch Dogs, or everything Bethesda touches.

But none of those developers said you could see other people when you clearly could not.

Witch hunt implies they did nothing wrong. Piling on implies that we are relentlessly attacking them. They have literally said nothing. The only reason it seems like piling on is because it is a 1 way dialogue.

What ads are they currently running that are misleading? I thought all the deception was in the pre-release interviews. Is there anything circulating out there right now that's deceptive.
