I probably will. I need to grab the new Goon and Walking Dead hardcovers anyway. And maybe the new Low tpb. And then the Fade Out hardcover is the week after. :O

I'm still debating whether to just get Goon and pay the $4 shipping on IST, or spend $50 for free shipping and take some more stuff off of my insane wishlist along with the Goon. I have a lot of bills to pay this upcoming paycheck, so I may go with the former.

Looks like a new thread. Appears I'm late. I was playing Kingdom Hearts. Now I'm going to read comics until I sleep.

You're welcome for this daily life update.

Started reading year five of Injustice.

Lord that mini Hawkgirl/Hawkman related arc was atrocious.

I wish Hawkwoman's Hawkworld uniform made a comeback in comics.

Hell I wish the character would make a comeback in comics.

latest

I love it tbh, though I do prefer the 'feathered' looking fake wings to the ones in the picture.

Extraordinary X-Men #14
Ibanez's art isn't that bad. He does do horror really well, though. I can tell because of how terrifyin he makes Apocalypse look and how creepy Sapna is. A pretty good issue overall, but it feels mostly like just more set-up. At the very least, Forge actually does something that doesn't cause me to resent his presence in this book.

The New Avengers #16
I'm gonna be so sad to see this go, but U.S.Avengers will be a worthy successor. This book is so fucking good. Though I have to ask, since I've read Secret Warriors,
why the fuck is John Garrett so damn crazy? When did that happen?

The Ultimates #11
Interesting choice with the art. Again, a good issue (as always with this book), but
I felt like Monica shouldn't have been there. Like, in the previous issue she was shot into another dimension, yet here she is. Though I suppose she does say that it took her there and back.

Captain America: Sam Wilson #13
Did not see that coming. Great issue as per usual, but I did not see that coming.

Captain America: Steve Rogers #5
This book is bonkers and I love it. Also supports my theory that
Ulysses is playing everyond
.

Did anyone notice Rocafort and Morissette were drawing different clothing on America in the last panel? Rocafort had her in a crop top and Morissette had her in a shirt.

Hmmm. First of October. Think in anticipation of Hellboy In Hell vol 2 releasing on the 20th, and as a bit of a nod to halloween at the end of the month, it's that time of year. Full Mignola line reread. There's so much of it now, I doubt I'll make it all the way there by the 20th but it's something to work towards.

How's the quality of Image's hardcovers? Was thinking about picking up Deadly Class Deluxe Edition, but I've never bought one of theirs.

Okay guys, at the risk of my wallet, I'm going to go for this... Below is a list of all the Vertigo series I'm covered on in one way or another. So my question is, are there any must-haves left in the titles not in the following list?

American Vampire
Astro City
Sheriff of Babylon
100 Bullets
Animal Man
Doom Patrol
Fables
Fairest
Hellblazer
The Invisibles
iZombie
Jack of Fables
Kid Eternity (well, the Grant Morrison issues)
Lucifer (the older run)
Preacher
Sandman
Sandman Mystery Theater
Scalped
Shade, The Changing Man
Swamp Thing
Transmetropolitan
The Unwritten
Y The Last Man
FBP
Sandman Overture

(This is all off of Wikis list)

So yeah, any glaring omissions there? Want to make the most of this Vertigo sale, since it's such a good one.

Unknown soldier, Joshua dysart. It's only 4 volumes too. Absolutely fantastic. It's quite unflinching in its storytelling but youve got stuff like sheriff of Babylon on there so I assume you'll be fine with real world issues in your fiction.

Oh wait wow and sweet tooth isn't there?? Haha. Incredible run.

I don't know if either of these are in the sale though, sorry, I missed that at the very end.

How much will this cost you? I barely got away from it after spending 50€.

Not all of that was from the sale, but most of it was, and yeeeeeah, I've already spent quite a bit. But I'm in the hole far enough now that I figure I may as well just get to the point where I can say "yes, I have all of the Vertigo that I need, and I am good in that regard."

Yeah, it's a line-wide Vertigo sale, so I'll definitely look into those, thanks!

Haha I feel really bad for immediately adding two, after you presented a really good list of fantastic books. Those two jumped out straight away though, those two and scalped are my favourite modern era/last ten years of vertigo book I think. American Vamp I like a lot too but can't really judge until it's finished.

Not a must have but if you like history and historical fiction, I liked northlanders a lot for that back in the day

New Romancer is a fun story with incredible art.

Kicked off my mignolaverse reread this morning with Hellboy: Seed Of Destruction, because what else would you start with. I won't write a whole review or anything, I'm sure anyone in the thread has read it, OR decided whether they want to or not, without need of a full write up selling it. However, I did have some thoughts/observations:

- So much of what becomes the book's visual identity is right there off the bat. Never mind the full volume, just take the first issue. You've got christian tombs, Nazi occultism mixed with big weird machines, lovecraftian treks into mountains of madness. Even a quick cameo from some Egyptian statuary. It's all packed in early on. Mig knew exactly what he wanted it to be from the get.

- Some storytelling techniques that aren't really hallmarks of the hellboy books. Diary entries, fact files, lots of inner monologue, even just a little 4th wall testing. Obviously it's down to the Fact that John Byrne was the one to actually script SoD, but it makes for a slightly strange read. I wouldn't say it's off, I love SoD in fact, but when you compare to the series as it settles in later, it's quite stark.

- Ghosts of plots that could have been. The Torch Of Liberty, the interdimensional aliens. It's funny to see some of these elements that never really showed up again in a major way (except for one extremely wtf moment haha). Who knows though, they're canon, they might pop up some day.

- The strong theme of destiny that's felt and inflicted on & by all the major players. The push and pull of destiny, rejecting what you're told is your lot in life, finding new surprising futures. All these things ring on for years for Hellboy, Abe, Liz, Rasputin & even the writers. Plot elements like the frogs, I'm not sure how much some things were planned to be such driving forces later on, but that's the great thing about Hellboy. Mignola just throws all this crazy shit at the wall and the writers turn it into this "oh, of course that was where that was going all along" thing. The plot and how it twists and turns is really flexible, but always sticks to it's themes and ideas. You can see stuff that was clearly planted here, AND stuff I don't think was planted on purpose but become huge things later, and it all makes sense.

- It's weird to see Mignola's art coloured by someone other than Dave Stewart at this point haha. There's nothing explicitly wrong with the colours in this volume, and I'm not sure Stewart comes on until around volume 4, or some of the short stories in volume 3, but it's definitely noticeable!

- Last thing, I love the little African frog myth included in the trade. I have no idea if it was printed with the original issues or something that joined later as part of the collection, but it's just really neat.

Haha is that your first pay day in off the new job?

Indeed it is. So far, as far as comics, I got the Rat Queens hardcover, Greg Rucka Wonder Woman Volume 1 (the older run) and the second Hawkeye OHC. I'll get Wonder Woman: The True Amazon and Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers Volume 1 when they're in stock on Amazon. I picked up the volumes of My Hero Academia I was missing as well.

Probably going to get those Power Man & Iron Fist issues that are on sale on CMX as well. Maybe I should just resub to MU to catch up with some Marvel.

But overall, I went a bit mad, yeah. Lots of Funkos and games as well, and a new pair of runners today as I just found a hole in my current pair when I went out this morning.

Sagas impact was reduced by seeing peoples reactions, but it was still good.

Snotgirl i'm still not sure about. I'll still buy a couple of more issues.

That's quite a list. The only thing I'd add would be Unknown Soldier by Ennis.

Yep. Can we spoiler Saga shit from now on. Was really great reading it knowing
sad shit was about to go down.

Yea sorry guys on the saga spoiler.

But yea can we also tag deadly class reactions once we get to the death stuff. We know it is coming lol.

At least for these two

Yessss. Appreciated both books being mentioned in the spoilers section in the OT. Had Deadly Class AND another remender book spoiled for me last month, and no fuckers even went back and edited their shit out.

Good thing they were only Remender books amirite?

That's quite a list. The only thing I'd add would be Unknown Soldier by Ennis.

What do ya think of the Dysart run though?

Also, oh dear haha. They did not cast Tommy Oliver as Bloodshot did they? This isnt for the movies though right?

Bro, that shit only came out in 1994. Spoiler alert!

Just kidding. Love it. I'm about 4-5 trades into the universe, and am slowly diving into the world. I think the Mignolaverse is too dense to lend itself to binge reading for me. Also, I'm following a guide that I think is all inclusive, but this one doesn't count Baltimore for some reason. I have access to them because my bud has everything he's ever written. Are those something to build in?

Don't know your exact financial situation with the new job, but if you're behind on Marvel books already, then MU would make sense. The first issue of Power Man and Iron Fist just dropped on there. It doesn't give you a quick way to get current in time for Now 2.0, so it that's your goal you might as well get the single issues or trades. I read Marvel exclusively on MU and think of it as trade waiting all their stuff. I end up reading EVERYTHING, including tons of books I wouldn't even look at individually.

Snotgirl i'm still not sure about. I'll still buy a couple of more issues.

It's interesting in that, "I'm peeking behind the curtain into a strange world I don't fully understand" sense. I'm not sure I like it, and I don't get hyped for it like most on here do. It's...okay?

LOL. That got me. Don't worry about spoilers going forward, I doubt I'll write as much again, and I'll keep my updates tagged as appropriate. Wait til volume 6 right, and see if you don't just start devouring them ;) I know what you mean though, that's a lot there, and when I was buying/reading them for the first time I spaced them out a lot, there's alot to unpack and think about there, and before you know alot of stuff that's going to happen, that's at least half the fun.

Also, don't worry about Baltimore, that's set in it's own *universe* as such, it's not hellboy world related. It's actually really good though, and really picked up steam with it's last few volumes, I'd recommend it. I wrote a little something about it in August right after I started posting again. It's spoiler free and here if you're interested: Click. The new series Mig & Golden are co-writing, Joe Golem, is also it's own thing. They actually put out a novel for each to kick em off, but at least as far as Baltimore goes, you don't have to read the novel at all.

It was very good. I read the two back to back, so they blurred together a bit for me, but they're absolutely both worth a read.

Ah okay awesome, just that it was absent from your recommendation, I was wondering if you didn't like it/too different to the Ennis book or anything. I have read/love the Dysart run, have not read the Ennis book though.

I'm mostly okay with getting MU and just cherrypicking the Marvel books I want to keep up with month-to-month. I'll probably get Champions this week for instance. And I still kept up with Mighty Thor even when I was broke so I'll stick with that and add Unworthy Thor. But overall I'll probably be choosier.

I can appreciate the desire for sensitivity and I will try to respect it. But I'm not sure asking everyone not to post their emotional response to a comic is a reasonable request.

In my opinion,
"someone dies" is a spoiler, "this issue made me sad" probably isn't.

I'd be fine with just toning down the "gif reviews" thing that has been going here for awhile. It was cute for awhile, now it's just grating.

Incoming 2 pages of nothing but GIFs....
