Gears of War 4 Graphics & Performance Guide

No idea for SLI but I don't recommend SLI in general. Always go for one powerful card.

Normally I'd agree but a second 970 basically dropped into my lap. I previously had this same card in my system for a couple weeks back when the 970 first launched (I bought two and sold one to my brother in law), and had zero problems.

My 1060 is ready (for when I can find the game at a decent price!). Thinking my i5-4670k will knock the framerate down some though, but hopefully will get 60fps!

UE4 is one of the best engines when it comes to CPU utilization so I'm not very concerned about that if I were you.

Haven't kept up with UWP shenanigans lately but I just came into possession of a second GTX 970 for peanuts. Anything on SLI support?

I don't even have Windows 10 yet but I'm planning a new build very soon. This could end up being one of the driving factors for that upgrade.

When people played the game earlier in the year they found a multi gpu option in the menu (directx 12 sli equivalent) I just hope that wasn't abandoned.

Elephant in the room - how it performs:

TL;DR @ Ultra:

1080p60fps = GTX 1060
1440p60fps = GTX 980Ti / 1070
4K60fps = Titan X Pascal

A GTX 950 gives you locked 30fps with significantly better visuals than the console version.

This is actually very, very good performance.

My 970GTX can hold the line till Christmas Gratification.

1080/60 at almost max settings for nv970 is all I needed to see. I'll throw half the effects down to medium/low since theres no difference at all and all those '1 fps' impacts will add up. I want dwayne johnson solid 60fps across the whole game.

According to Raynor, that setting has been offered for future systems and SLI power users: "The game will scale with new hardware that will come out," he said. "You need a really high spec to get in there. It looks awesome, but it's very GPU-hungry." (While I couldn't test Raynor's assertions that the game has been optimized to make the most of SLI graphics card performance, he insisted that users would see substantial boosts if they double-card.)

This post isn't by me, it's by a guy with the same username as me.
uh, yeah. show me all the graphs you want, im waiting for real user experiences.

No reason to doubt this Nvidia performance guides.

The ones we had in the past (the Witcher 3, The Division, ROTR) were always excellent and in line with the real world usage.

I look forward to revisiting the game in a couple years and cranking it to 4k insane

Props to Andy,great writeup as always

Nice to know it performs good on PC. Will probably play this on Xbox One S at some point to check their HDR implementation but based Play Anywhere got me covered so yay :)

Good work on the guide, Andy!

So basically set everything to Ultra. Forget about the couple of Insane settings. Then tweak the resolution to hit your desired frame rate. Maybe take a look at the dynamic scaling option to allow a bit of headroom if / when needed. Got it!

Looks fantastic. I will get this set up when it unlocks tomorrow night in prep for Fridays mega session. The hype is real, for once!

If you have any technical questions not covered by the guide I can likely answer them. Anything about gameplay or story is off limits until the review embargo lifts.

Dynamic scaling.

SLI? Native DX12 MultiGPU support? Anything? There was a screenshot of graphics settings a while back where there was a MultiGPU option.

This will probably be the only uwp that looks great and performs amazingly, assuming nothing got screwed up.

Forza was close but that stuttering for some folks...

Shouldn't insane be the same for these 2.

There are framerate hitches when game load new areas or you reach a checkpoint?

One thing I would like to know is. On the Xbox at least, the multiplayer graphics have been toned down in order to double the framerate.

Is this the case on PC. Meaning that a system which is set up for campaign 60fps might be able to go higher with the resolution in multiplayer?

Seemingly nice performance

I just need to brush up on the last three games, like watch youtube compilation or retrospective. I don't see myself playing the older games but I have the code with my new GPU.

Nope. We pick the best location for stressing a setting, instead of just using the benchmark or 1 spot in the game with a minor use of that option. Also, DoF is in only in cinematics, so you've got the normal rendering cost of that scene plus DoF.

Would you know anything about how a FX-6300 and GTX 1060 6gb pairing would fair? Thanks for tanking the time to answer questions!

A GTX 1060 can run this at an average of 87FPS on Ultra settings at 1080p? Damn, awesome! I don't plan on getting Gears 4, but it's great to see what my PC could push nonetheless.

Just out of curiosity, is this game pretty taxing on the CPU? I would assume not, but you never know.

Where does the Xb1 version stack up against PC settings, Low, medium, high, etc.?
Etta seems quite convinced that the XB1 version runs on the High preset already. ;)

All signs point to this being a lot better port than the shoddy FH3 port. Can't wait to get my hands on it.
Looks like Gears is again gonna be the poster child of the Unreal engine.
That's what I thought as well seeing this guide.

Have you tested split-screen PC performance? Would love to know how it affects framerate at the various settings levels and if it plays nice with the dynamic resolution scaling to keep things smooth. Thanks!

Why would you assume that?

And quite convinced? Are you serious?
I merely used FH3 as an example, and the fact that Microsoft has some common sense to not make the Xbox version, their main platform, look like shit by comparison.
So snarky.
