Anyone enter the io9/Kotaku party and get an e-mail confirmation?

Edit: Sent my brother the link to sign up for Planet of the Apes. He won and I didn't. :-/

Cutting it close with my costume. Tomorrow I gotta do all the sewing for my cape. And I still need to find red gloves.

Only got Thurs. and Friday this year, hopefully can get what I'm looking for.

Dear god should I even attempt to line up for Resident Evil panel on that day?
If you do, you can pretty much kiss your Friday goodbye unless you just wanted to see that one panel. Ask yourself: Do I really want to camp out overnight (which is being discouraged but people are going to be people) just to see one panel tomorrow as opposed to going to the Javits Center? Then you'll have your answer.

*Checks the date of the Kotaku article* September 23rd?! The boat sailed on that one ages ago. If I would have known about it last week, I would have RSVP'ed given the time and proximity from the Javits Center.
Advice for a first timer? I'm going on Sunday.
If you follow the D.A.R.R.Y.L system in the OP, you will survive. That being said, Sunday is a pretty chill day since it's the last day. Sunday also means last minute sales for prints and stuff so if you go to Artist Alley/the show floor about 2 hours before, you'll rack up on even more free stuff.

My advice would be to get up bright and early, hit up the Show Floor when it opens for fans to accrue swag and walk around. Anything that has a line will be for raffles, to buy stuff, or to sign up for the aforementioned swag. Then make your way over to Artist Alley while you check out the other areas. There's a couple of GAF members that regularly table at Artist Alley every year *cough TheBaroness and GrayMatter* under Ashley Riot. You will feel overwhelmed and it's okay once you get used to it. Also it would help to carry hand sanitizer on you just in case.

Above all, take loads of pictures and have fun even if you don't go in with an agenda. If you see a huge sea of Crew gathering by the stairs stairs leading down to the North Concourse around 5:30pmish, I'll be in there celebrating.

Really only pumped for Thursday this year. I hope the offsite panel locations help with the overwhelmed Javits center. Last year was a god damned mess, especially on fri/sat in that artist alley connection hallway.

Tell me about it, that Progressive locker in the middle of the North Concourse corridor was a huge mistake. I don't think that will be happening again this year.

Don't go on Sundays

Unless you like kids

Also this. Sunday happens to be kids day which is why people avoid it. Expect to see lots of screaming kids and strollers everywhere.

A quick general heads up, panels at Hammerstein will also not be cleared out between panels in case it . Also, Go! Go! Curry is a pretty solid place
---which I've yet to eat at---
for food in case they give GAF another shout out this year. ;)

Also don't forget to bring a 3DS if you have one to maximize on StreetPasses. This is the one year where I'm sorely missing my 3DS from having accidentally spilled water on it back in June and fried it. So no New 3DS XL for me until a Black Friday sale. :(

Looking forward to a fun Friday and Saturday. How are the Stan Lee signings gonna work this year? Will they be ticketed at a certain location when the doors open each day?

And how are the afterparties? I'm thinking of going to the Sonicboombox one on Friday night. Is that one of the bigger public ones?

Good luck! :) What are you going as?

The only Stan Lee signings I'm seeing are the ones where you pay $100 for an item to get signed. >_>

I got a Private Autograph ticket for Yusei Matsui, author+artist of Assassination Classroom! Yay. :D

Hammerstein and MSG are pretty strict about that stuff since there's money to be made in the (overpriced) concessions stands from their POV. It's easier to smuggle in smaller snacks in the pockets. A trade-off for having panels off-site at bigger venues for sure though.

We're 3 people - and i'm the huge Star Wars geek but also the only one able to work with a sewing machine as well as other crafting materials like foam - so we're doing Poe (myself), Rey (my girlfriend) and Finn.
Aww that' sounds cute! I wish I could have convinced my boyfriend to dress up with me but like you, I'm the only one who knows how to sew. (He does help me with the crafting stuff though.)

Funnily, she was hellbent on dressing up as Rey, regardless of what i went as.

I wasn't aware of what i had gotten myself into when i decided to go for Poe, seeing as i'm a huge perfectionist, but also entirely 'self-taught' when it comes to sewing / tailoring. And even then, all i had done up until this year was clumsily shortening pant legs, tightening a sleeve, fixing up a collar, inserting a rubber band. Not adapting an entire jump suit, let alone make a "safety vest" from scratch.
Utterly burnt out now, though - i told her that next year i'd rather hit the gym 7 days a week, put on a speedo and go as He-Man...

the most fun i had was probably making the blaster, which was entirely optional - but working with foam, plastic and glue is so much easier than working with fabric.

Taking a train out of rural PA tomorrow morning. Pretty excited for another round of NYCC (3rd in a row, 6th overall).

Exclusives look kind of lackluster especially on the comic side. Planning on getting the GID Bison Kid Robot figure for myself and a Boba Fett Hallmark ornament for a buddy. Probably getting another (affordable) commission this year too.

just stopped by the convention center busier than I expected seeing how it is only Wedn but folks picking up badges and setting up booths.

Hope you folks like CBS shows because dominating the outside marketing. Also saw that South Park has an outside area near the 38th street exit.

Doesn't look like any free wifi this year?

If I'm understanding things correctly, there are 3 mega stages this year? D-1, the Theater at MSG, and Hammerstein Ballroom?

Do we know if any of these are being cleared? Or is it an all-day commitment to attend any of the panels?

Lance Fensterman just did a live QA on Facebook. They should have wifi details soon.

Only the Main Stage (1-D) is being cleared. MSG isn't being cleared. I think Hammerstein isn't going to be cleared either, but could be wrong on that.

Thanks for the answer.

I'm going on Friday and Saturday; I will definitely spend Friday at the main show but I guess I'll have to think long and hard if I want to wake up super early on Saturday to get in line for one of those venues.

1E is an extension of the Show floor; there's VR booths set up there and the Family HQ is also housed there. Saw FFXV and John Wick set up there.

Attending Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Just making sure I have everything prepared for the big 3 days, like money, a spare power supply, enough music on my mp3 player to keep me going, etc.

The big thing I want to do at NYCC is to get something unique for my nephews. Everything else will be for the sake of having fun.

What time do doors open?
Pro tip: Times are on the back of your badge for each day. ;)

Three other observations:

There is no Progressive locker in the corridor leading to Javits North/Artist Alley. It's been replaced by a 20th Century Fox Draw your Character booth that stretches most of it.

The aforementioned corridor to will be a one way chokepoint every day.

The Funko Pop booth is to the right of The Block entering the show floor; Toy Tokyo is back in its corner last year.

D'oh. I literally haven't looked at my badge since I first got it. Just stuffed it in my suitcase so I wouldn't forget it.
That's one of the most common questions people always ask. When I tell them it's on the back of their badge, they have a similar reaction so their faces are priceless.

I haven't decided if I should go for a photo op or autograph from Stan Lee.

If I even get to a good spot in the line to meet him. >_<

Damn, just- Do I flip a coin or something?

Stan Lee Photo Ops are sold out according to the site.

Oh, so the photo ops are a separate thing. That takes care of that then, phew.

Edit: ... Of course, if it turns out that the people managing the photo ops were also managing the autographs then I got a problem but I also save $100 so I dunno if I even mad

The aforementioned corridor to will be a one way chokepoint every day.

Welp. looks like i'll only be hitting the artist alley tomorrow and never looking back. Sooner or later they'll figure out a way to just rope off the outside area so they can create a one way each direction sort of set up to prevent that total clusterfuck. But i doubt it.

Can someone on a map show me where artists alley is. I looked at a dealer map today and couldn't see it anywhere.

Artist alley is through the tunnel on the first floor all the way to the right.

Man, I've been too busy and busy with other stuff that I haven't planned NYCC at all. Gonna be solo for the beginning of the event tomorrow, what's the best stuff to do?
Was planning on just getting swag and checking artist alley etc that other friends might not wanna do other days.
Never tried any panels or anything before but I'm interested.
