Too many folks are sleeping on the Cap books and Black Panther.

I think all three will be classics by the end of their runs.

I'm still trying to catch up on Sam Wilson's Cap via trades since I stopped reading after the Cap Wolf arc started (not that it was badly written in of itself...although the story was way too joke-y in the way it reintroduced Cap Wolf).

Once that wolf arc ends it gets really really good.

As for Black Panther. I've been following it, and it's inarguably well written, but honestly I've found it kind of dull.

Man, I remember when ANAD Marvel was the "Next Big Marvel Relaunch". At least it felt that way with Secret Wars and all. I'm pretty positive that CWII isn't really doing that well for an event, though it seems Marvel intends to make up for it in variant covers up the wazoo.

Honestly, with most of the apathy I see to this event I'm not sure what Marvel can really do to make the next one appealing.

I don't read Vision, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't.

Does Champions spoil Vision #12 at all?

Nope. Speaking of...

Champions #1: As far as first issues go, it's a solid start to this new team. Waid does a great job establishing the team dynamics i.e. the characters' relationships and roles (Kamala being unofficially in charge is nice touch given how badly the last time she was involved with superhuman individuals went in her book) while showcasing how much work the team has to do before they live up to their name with a good dose of humor to boot. That said, there are some odd faces to be found (evil-looking Kamala in the first few panels and the Hulk looking like a Looney Toons character with their catoonishly unhinged jaw on a later page to name a few) among the generally well-drawn and detailed artwork are a touch on the distracting side and the impetus for Kamala to leave the Avengers, while understandable, can't help but feel a touch contrived considering all the events that took place before it that could have caused her to quit like Spidey and Nova did before. Still, it's a highly promising beginning to what looks like a fun Titans-esque tale of teens trying to do good in a world with so much bad in it. While the heroes might not live up to it just yet, the comic certainly lives up to the name of Champions.

Still can't get over those faces though...

Mercs for Money was good and this new team is going to be fun.

I have never been too big on Aaron's Strange, but I decided to give the new status quo a shot and I liked it.

Jessica Jones was really good and I recommend it.

follow up question:

what the hell is wrong with you?

GO READ VISION

I'll read it when the last trade comes out.

I liked Champions a lot, but yeah, I can't get over the hit-and-miss with Ramos. Like, the cover art is gorgeous - I just wish the characters inside the book didn't look completely different from page to page.

It's my first exposure to ChoHulk and, huh, dude was a highlight. He was the only character I wasn't too sure about going in... though I'm a bit hesitant about how Viv is going to be handled outside by someone other than King, who gets the mix of "robotic pathos" just right.

If you liked Cho in Champions you would likely enjoy his ongoing as well because Waid did a good job capturing Pak's interpretation of the character on the surface.

Yea I enjoy Totally Awesome Hulk a lot more then I thought I would. As a curmudgeonly old man I usually don't like young hero focused books, but CHulk won me over.

Chulk is great. Much like Jane Thor, I don't want him to go.

Too bad his character sucks in Marvel Puzzle Quest. :/

I'd like Jane Thor more if Aaron would move on from this Roxxon/Malakith arc that he's been wallowing in since the end of the god bomb arc.

FFS move on already.

That is a fair complaint. The Roxxon arc has been going on since even before Jane became Thor!

Yea God Bomb ended in like 2012 or 13 and it's been this one dull arc ever since. It's crazy because God Bomb was one of the best Thor runs ever, but Aaron's never been able to recapture that magic.

Okay, I think we can play this game. Which books will fall to the pit of canned and how long will they last? 12 issues and past that is the target so anything below that counts.

Marvel Now! 2012
Sif: 8
Red She Hulk: 10
Alpha: 6
Morbius: 9
Thanos Rising: 5

All New Marvel Now!
Avengers Undercover: 10
Iron Patriot: 5
All-New Doop: 5
Elektra: 11
Deadly Hands of Kung Fu : 5
Savage Hulk: 5
Storm: 11

Avengers Now I think I'm gonna count despite launching in January.
Bucky Barnes: The Winter Soldier: 11
Deathlok: 10
Superior Iron Man: 9
Angela: Asgard's Assassin: 6

ANAD Marvel
Vote Loki: 4
AN Hawkeye: 11 (Counting the Avengers NOW run)
Howling Commandos: 6
Drax: 11
Illuminati: 7
Star Lord:7 (Tricky since it actually follows up on Legendary Star Lord)
Red Wolf: 6
Web Warriors: 11
Starbrand & Nightmask: 6
Weirdworld: 6
Agents of SHIELD: 10
A-Force: 10
Rocket Raccoon and Groot: 10
Mockingbird: 8
Hyperion: 6
Nighthawk: 6

Some of the LGBT comics critics on Twitter (Matt Santori-Griffith, Oliver Sava, Andrew Wheeler), who have criticized Marvel quite harshly (and fairly) about their lackluster LGBT representation, and with whom I usually agree about this sort of thing, are upset that there wasn't a creative team announced and are suggesting that this is only a reaction to DC announcing books like Batwoman.

Of course, it's best not to get too hyped with no creative team, but otherwise... so what? If Marvel finally feels that competitive and PR pressure is dictating that they have to launch more LGBT-centric books, how is that a bad thing?

I think the issue is they have no team on this yet but Nova 2016 didn't either only to be announced like 2 months later?

The biggest issue is that they had a lot of chances to have a good team on this book but AA is being a jerkass about LGBT rep, look how long he took to fix the diversity issue in Marvel and that was only because Ms. Marvel was selling gangbusters. Angela was getting GLAAD nods and other awards but Marvel killed it while keeping fucking Agents of Shield which was doing worse.

Last year we also got 1 LGBT book. It was cancelled in 7 issues despite having better sales than books that got to survive 5+ issues more. The writer is now on 2 LGBT books over at DC.

You post too quickly!

This actually isn't true. Every book that sold similar or lower numbers got cancelled just as quick except for the all age books. The real issue was the fact that the second issue of Angela did 23k and we need to see a bigger push for a character like America who should do better.

Because it can mean many things.

Maybe they don't want to reveal the creative team at NYCC where it's in the public eye because none of the people on the book are black or LGBT.

Maybe they're only doing a book to be able to say that they had one and nothing more and will do the same next year at the next relaunch.

Maybe the creative team isn't actually decided yet.

Maybe the team was on a book that got cancelled due to low sales and they don't want to talk about failures before putting them on a new book.

Maybe they only intend for the book to get two volumes and gave the book to creators they had just laying around.

Nova sold barely better and was allowed to go on until now. Drax sold worse and got to 10+. Books that hadn't even been collected yet like Moon Girl and Hellcat are still ongoing. Angela didn't even get the chance to do well in book stores.

What if this is one of the two ongoings Chelsea Cain is working on?

Also, not getting the creative team with the announcement isn't exactly a new thing.

They also got some criticism for getting a WOC professional writer to work on that second Black Panther book instead of one that's already in the comics industry.

And Tim Seeley left Blade because people where complaining and writing articles about a white male writing the book over a WoC.

Both of those books have been collected and appeal to a different audience so they seemingly get more leeway in addition to Moon Girl apparently doing well in trade.

Personally I think Angela should have gotten another trade, but I don't what what their internal estimates were among other things. I'm guessing Drax got to stick around because of the CM Punk thing.

Just as a heads up, Infamous Iron Man #1 spoils something pretty major about Civil War 2, so read at your own peril if for some bizarre reason you actually give a shit about Civil War 2.

Prowler was okay, sadly it's tied to Clone Conspiracy.
Doc Strange and Sorcerers Supreme was a great start with a swerve at the end.
