Well how much did Capcom expect to sell of MH Stories? If like 50% of copies are on store shelves that's pretty bad.

50% isn't a bad sell through at all, for 2 days worth of sales, how often do you think games are shipped to stores?

It's not bad when you're aiming to kids (not day one buyers), and Monday was a national holiday, so second week should be good.

03./00. [PS3] BlazBlue: Chronophantasma # <FTG> (Arc System Works) {2013.10.24} (¥7.140) - 72.464 / NEW <86,36%>

02./00. [PS4] BlazBlue: Central Fiction # <FTG> (Arc System Works) {2016.10.06} (¥6.800) - 20.608 / NEW
06./00. [PS3] BlazBlue: Central Fiction # <FTG> (Arc System Works) {2016.10.06} (¥6.800) - 9.674 / NEW

Hmm.

And Xrd Revelator was not much better, looks like Japan is losing interest in this franchises, at least in the home market, in the arcades they are getting money for sure. I do think CP got such a good sales because they had the anime on air by the time the game was out.

It's... still dropping?

Yeah and the 2DS alone has someone managed to equal the Vita's weekly sales (which seems pretty absurd to me unless the Vita is not long for this world), I imagine the 3DS and PS4 will eventually cross streams, probably next week

Last week: bomba, flop, bargain bins.
This week: ok but it's all about legs.

Just admit that MHS sold far beyond our predictions. And yes, 140k is a great result, especially in just two days of sales and no digital, it was also sold out at some stores.

It's a rpg spinoff targeted at kids (eg. Another Capcom try at creating a cross media franchise after the complete failure of Gaist Crusher). The gameplay and art is totally different, it was never going to do regular MH numbers.

Yokai Watch Busters was a spinoff targeted at kids that changed genres and yet it did much, much better than MHS (693k). There are probably other more logical reasons for these numbers.

It's not. It's pretty old at this point and developers are openly talking about ditching Vita for their next releases.

It's been quite a while since it had healthy hardware sales and/or a big software release.

Busters was part of a franchise that already successfully targeted kids? It's not really apples to apples.

?

With 15k digital it would make 460k sales.
But yeah we should expect a digital ratio of 10-15% on PS4 and 5-8% on PS3 so overall it should be close to 500k retail+digital.
Whoops, miscalculated. I just glanced over LTD and must have saw a number differently.

But yeah, you're right.

YWB is an expasion to a YW2 multiplayer mode that was very well received. Level-5 was smart to transform that into a full packaged game.

Two totally different situations.

MHS is starting from zero. It carries the MH name but it's not targetting the young adult fanbase.

Thank you, but wasn't that before YSO's prediction?

Considering the amount of money Capcom is putting to MHS, it is quite a bomba (they reserved a whole year of TV slot), if it doesn't have legs. Now we must wait and see how much legs it will have.

I am gonna say, the 3DS in terms of hardware, had a FANTASTIC run. I don't think it can be described as anything else but a resounding success.

Selling 21 million in a mobile dominated era, with dated hardware at the time of release is astounding. Goes on to show the power of software and strong IPs

if we count 5 players in this generation (3DS, Vita, WiiU, PS4 and X1) none, will come even close to reaching that number, in fact I don't think anyone will cross 10 million.

this has to be promising for whatever thing nintendo will replace the 3DS with.

Not that it means any difference but Media Create Monster Hunter Drama Stories last 2 weeks after YSO predictions were talking for bomba bins almost immediately.

And the dream for FIFA will soon be over.

Happy about Stories. That's a pretty encouraging first week. Now the game needs to have legs to be considered a real success, but it should sell that first shipment at full price.

Noticeably outperforming the pre order based expectations and only in 2 days could hopefully point towards it being at least decently leggy, havent been following really whats the word of mouth like so far?

140k isn't good for Stories, IMO.

Like, a console port of an already released Monster Hunter game does 3x that in Japan.

And 140k is half of what another spinoff Monster Hunter Diary: Poka Poka Village debuted at.

I dunno, I'm not exactly impressed.

Given the low predictions that were easily beaten by what seems to be good word of mouth, I'm optimistic on Stories's legs. Not necessarily a million seller, but 500K will probably be easy. I know we dump on Capcom a lot, and they deserve it most of the time, but even they can get things right once in awhile. Usually in regards to Monster Hunter.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Monster Hunter Stories had a...decent, good at most first week. It's true that it obtained to beat several pessimistic expectations here on GAF and elsewhere, and the demo has probably helped to get more attention right before the release, but the number itself isn't anything extraordinary. Now, the real test will be the legs: considering the audience it's targeting, there are chances the game sales are spread across a longer period of time, especially if the word of mouth (which seemingly already helped the last weeks' preorders) is good enough.

Chrono Phantasma-to-Central Fiction shows a major drop, yeah.

Good steady sales for Kirby, Dragon Ball: Fusions, Yokai Watch, the New Price Edition of GTAV...even Puzzle & Dragons X, after all (yes, it's a major drop compared to the SMB Edition, let alone its actual prequel, but it's performing far better than I expected after seeing the debut).
Minecraft Wii U is still doing pretty well as well, and the fact that the Vita version had similar sales this week, despite its gigantic LTD (retail only) is a great demonstration of how well the game did on Vita.
Splatoon back in Top 20, yeah! :p

Out of curiosity, has anyone got a list of sales numbers for all separate versions of GTAV? It must be well above a million by now.

Nintendo 3DS - Road to 22 millions

LTD sales = 21 272 042
Units left until target = 727 958
Weeks left = 12 weeks
Average sales requires = 60 663 units / week

By the way, the Nintendo 2DS has a noticeable impact on sales. Sales would have been down YoY in the past few weeks without it, so it's doing its job (and since margins are pretty big, that's quite a lot of extra money).

MHS did pretty fine. Just because it has "Monster Hunter" in its name does not mean the spin-off will automatically sell the same as the mainline ones. Just look at Pokemon for example. Plus the target audience is not the same as the main ones anyway, so the test is to how much the younger folks will bite into the spin-off game intended for them.

And the king
Splatoon
is back!

PS4 holding nicely!
Such a shame a no-brainer like MineCraft Wii U couldn't happen sooner. Would've love to see its numbers and the impact on system sales.

Japan LTD rank
PS3 Grand Theft Auto V 304,752 851,259
360 Grand Theft Auto IV 38,281 76,884

Media Create CY 2015
[PS4] Grand Theft Auto V # <ACT> (Take-Two Interactive Japan) {2014.12.11} (¥7.400) - 87.437 / 205.651
[XB1] Grand Theft Auto V <ACT> (Take-Two Interactive Japan) {2014.12.11} (¥7.400) - 2.066 / 4.660

This week
[PS4] Grand Theft Auto V [New Price Edition] <ACT> (Take-Two Interactive Japan) {2015.10.08} (¥4.990) - 4.089 / 173.240

Since then you can probably add at least 50k to the PS3 budget version (not sure when was the last time Japan LTD rank was updated).

So it's around ~1.4M.

So both BlazBlue and Guilty Gear are franchises at fairly low points in terms of sales. Seeing that fighting games are ASW's B&B, I wonder what they're going to do next (aside from visual novels and Mori working on what might or might not be a visual novel).

Maybe they'll start to do more collaborations with more powerful brands again, like another Persona Arena game or whatever.
