Red Dead Redemption 2 (Fall 2017, PS4/XB1, Trailer 10/20 @ 11 AM EST) announced

What will ultimately anger people the most about this game?

I'll take 1 protagonist with a much better story over "3 switch at any time characters" with any less of a story.

If they have the writing to support the 3-switching protagonist system, then sure go for it. But I'd much rather get a more grounded tale in one character, like John Marston in RDR.

So no Marston and his gang prequel then. Sounds good. I am excited for the trailer.

Really like how they announce a release date with the announcement. But we all know the game will be out somewhere in the middle of 2018 anyways.
Marston never had his own gang from what I remember, he rode with Dutch's Gang

And from the looks of it this seems to be that very gang since Marston is presumably the man on the left

It would make sense, since Marston is the only one looking away, as if to separate himself from the rest of these ruffians

Hell, if they want to put Ogg in there just have it be Trevor after all. Turns out he's actually immortal, it would explain a lot.

I'm only half joking.

it's coming to PC, lol. RDR didn't make it to PC for entirely different reasons.
soooo many people are going to double dip on this game, it's unreal. I'm certain that the GTA V re-release on PC did wonders for Rockstar's wallet. People will buy the hell out of this on consoles, then pick it up again months later on PC.

I would not be surprised at all if they have some exclusivity deal with MS for a Scorpio version for a few months and then release the PC version.

It's a load of bullshit as a PC gamer. I ended up buying GTA V from Brazil for cheap and really have no qualms doing so with this game too since R* seems to be happy treating PC gamers as second class citizens.

To be honest I am not looking forward to what kind of online features they include here. I didn't care two shits about GTA Online, all I want is a cool sandbox to play in single player.

As bad as those reason are, at best they make a delayed release have some kind of sense. Not announcing it before a console release, is baiting people into double dipping, fuck that practice.

Based on GTAV sales trends I don't think people mind.

Would The 3 Musketeers have been a better novel if one of them were a woman? I mean I won't say that it would have made the novel any worse - I have no way of knowing. Maybe? Why even bother thinking about this? But whatever, nobody cares (or should?) because they wrote a good story.

A good story is a good story. Gender/ethnic/orientation/religious/nationality balance is absolutely irrelevant.

You can have an amazing story centered on an all white male straight cast. You can also have an amazing story with the most diverse cast in the world. A good story might come from something in between.

Why does anybody care about this really? If the story is ultimately bland because the characters are not well developed, that's grounds for disappointment. But if I see a game with an all-female cast, I can't immediately assume it would have worked better if there was a guy in there. I can't look at an all male cast and assume it'd be better with a female in it. I don't see how this makes sense really.

I'm sure someone else will respond with more effort than me (it's 1am here) but it's about representation. Good female characters in video games, shit, anything, are too few and far between.

Could this be Steven Ogg?

I'd be totally fine with having just a single protagonist, but it seems very unlike after GTA V and that artwork. The trailer can't come soon enough.

Wahoo! Can't wait, Westworld has been giving me a good ol' fashioned cowboy itch that only RDR can soothe. (Or more Deadwood, c'mon, HBO.) I can understand the going with Redemption for brand name recognition, but it'd be amusing if it was 'Red Dead Redemption 2' and it's a prequel. Red Dead Redemption 0.5 isn't as catchy, so I guess Rockstar won't be following Square's naming conventions.

Onwards to the historical accuracy discussions! The "Wild West" idea is probably the most historically inaccurate and exaggerated period in US history. Life aint a John Wayne flick

Except Bass Reeves'.

Ha, yep, this.

Please. Famous female outlaws are factual things. That's all. You walk some rocky high ground towards that man of straw.

I agree here. For a game with the name "Redemption" in the title (even though I know this was a reference to John), very few of any of the side characters are redeemable. Virtually every prominent side character, besides Bonnie and the gunman guy in Mexico, is a irredeemable, horrible person.

Hmm, there were a fair few characters in the game who were morally good/decent that suffered tragic ends, like
John, his wife, the native american aide, the mexican lady in one of the sub-quest and the guy building the flying apparatus
off the top of my head. It felt to me at times like the game was almost taking glee at being consistently horrible to its cast.

I mean, it's a western, not a Lars Von Trier movie. How about a happy ending for someone every once in a while!

Let's hope this game has better pacing. The last one for all the accolades here was pretty terrible in that regard. Which is funny because every single piece of media that is released on this planet has its pacing ripped to shreds by people on this site.

Can't say I'm pleased about the PC snub, but I understand Rockstar wants to earn bank on double dippers 6 - 12 months later.

That being said. I'm so ready for some current gen RDR, regardless of platform!

seems like poor exclusivity when you can play it on three other consoles

You're telling me, with the millions and millions of dollars Rockstar made from GTAV and the rest of the franchise, the man power they must have at their disposal, GTA Online still making tons of money, that they can't somehow release a game on PC day and date with their console versions? Really?

i feel like releasing it later is almost purposeful at this point, right?

Rockstar doesn't owe anyone anything.

/thread. Best answer to all the complaining.

Let's just look forward to the trailer coming in two days.

And they were generally more fucking bad ass than the male outlaws were. They had to be to survive in that world.

Or it really just isn't Red Dead 3 given Rockstar's history.
Grand Theft Auto III
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Grand Theft Auto IV
I think Red Dead Revolver is not considered a game in the series. It was some game Capcom was trying to cancel. R* figured it was a dead IP so they just made use of the RED and DEAD title so it wasn't an absolute loss from buying the property.

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
honestly if they had a female in there. it would ruin it for me, it wouldn't be realistic at all, just a very unlikely scenario.

We're talking about a game where cowboys have bullet time yet somehow having a main character that's a woman would be too unrealistic and asking why people care. Welp:

RDR was about the end of the Old West.
John's death is an allegory for the end of the period itself. Or something.

7 guys? Another Magnificent Seven remake, yawn.

Can't wait, hope the single player experience is untouched by the online presence.

Well it depends, I think the rush job to condemn RDR2 on gender equity on a fucking teaser picture is incredibly premature, especially since RDRevolver had a female playable character and African American.

There was a large African American populace in the Wild West bit if you didn't that era was segregated and racist ...

There was segregation and racism, but African American outlaws/lawmen still existed.
Take for example Deputy US Marshal Bass Reeves (who inspired the character The Lone Ranger)

There really isn't any excuse to not include playable blacks, indians or women...
