Need podcasts for your podcast games? Here's a place to discuss/share gaming podcasts

So a lot of people talk about games. Pretty much every major site has their own (or several) podcasts, as well as myriad other series that cover games in various fashions and forms. While learning about the site-related ones is usually easy, exploring beyond those can be quite a task (as the many gaming podcasts recommendations threads indicate)

So I hope this thread can help with that search, as well as offer a place to discuss and share new or more obscure gaming podcasts worth checking out, that may not have the community to support an individual OT but still deserve some attention. Some may be ongoing and current, some may be short-lived or discontinued, but all offer interesting game-related listening

Edit: feel free to share your own series here. Outside of certain subreddits, it can be hard to learn about podcasts not affiliated with major sites, so no worries, it's cool to post about your own

===

Beyond news and critique
Final Games - Developers and journalists (guests have included Jason Schreier, Max Tempkin, and William Pugh) discuss their desert island games
Checkpoints - Interviews with developers (ie Rami Ismail, Bennett Foddy, and Chris Remo) about the games that have inspired them and had impacts on their lives.
A Life Well Wasted - Essentially the "This American Life" approach to topics related to games
Top Score - Discussion about video game scores and interviews with composers
Designer Notes - Talking with developers about why they make games and other game design elements
Game Is A 4 Letter Word - Another NPR-esque series about games and gaming
Infinite Ammo - Interviews with various indie game developers
Three Moves Ahead - Discussion on strategy games and strategy game mechanics/design
Headshots - Discussion on the psychology of gaming and recent gaming news

Indie games/Focused discussion (single game per episode or multiple episodes)
The Short Game - Focused on games that can be completed in a few hours or days, mostly indie games across PC, consoles, and mobile
Check It Out, Comrade - Two indie games discussed each episode
Cane and Rinse - Each episode looks at a single game, from a wide spectrum of classic, recent AAA, and indie titles
Dev Game Club - Veteran developers play and discuss a single game across several episodes
Watch Out For Fireballs - Focused on older games, although some episodes dicuss more recent releases such as Dishonored
Twenty Dollar Gaming - Monthly discussion about a $20 game that the hosts play throughout the previous month
Roguelike Radio - In-depth discussion and analysis of roguelikes, roguelites, and roguelike mechanics

Gives all the fucks
Appreciate this, I listen to Nintendo World Report, Bombcast, & Beastcast each week while at work, but I'm starting to run out of new episodes & have resorted to listening to 2014 Bombcast stuff.

I feel like I should listen to 8-4 Play, but I saw an episode was barely over an hour & was kind of turned off since I prefer around the 2-3 hour range to help pass the time more at work.

Edit: Here's the thread where we talk about Radio Free Nintendo, the podcast from Nintendo World Report.

Easy Allies, Frame Trap, Kinda Funny Gamescast and PS I Love You are GOAT tier. I also really like the PSNation podcast, love those guys. They're reaching the 500th podcast mark.

Oh, also Nintendo Voice Chat from IGN. It's also great.

Throwing out a nod to 4Player Podcast. Became one of my favs after discovering them a few months back.

Also, Vidjagame Apocalypse is quite humorous too and feels different than the others in terms of format thanks to their top 5 every show.

I wish there were new episodes of A Life Well Wasted. Each episode was a real treat, but there are only 7 or so of them. :(

Any good suggestions for retro gaming podcasts? I prefer something that's a little more freeform with general discussion. A lot of them I've seen attempt to tackle a different game each episode and that's not really what I'm looking for.

Retro Game Squad ended last month but there is a 4 year back catalogue. They talk about 6-10 old games per episode.

Would it be ok to post my own here? Don't wanna self promote, but we'd love feedback and think we're putting out entertaining stuff every week.

Sure. Posters with gaming podcasts should feel free to mention their own series here. I always enjoy checking out lesser-known podcasts

Hello. Does anyone mind a plug? If not, mods, delete the post.

My Favourite Game has folks from all over the industry - devs, community folk and journos - come on to talk of their favourite game.

Past guests include Chris Avellone (Ex-Obsidian), Nina Freeman (Fullbright Company/Cibele), Sam Barlow (Her Story creator), Robin Hunicke (ex-Thatgamecompany/Funomena), Dan Pinchbeck (The Chinese Room) and a ton, ton more.

Its gone four seasons as of this August. There was meant to be a few episodes planned to come out for the end of the year - not a full season, but enough to make up for a break between full seasons - but that's been backburnered in the interim for personal reasons. However, Season 5 will be coming next year. Planning a good lineup for then, so stay tuned.

Great idea, always wondered why we had one in OT but not Gaming side.

If I can make a shameless self plug, I'm part of a weekly news/reaction/discussion podcast and we do one for Movies/Comics/TV and one for gaming. Also on Youtube!

www.allyoucangeek.net

Constructive feedback would be greatly appreciated as well! We are really looking on trying to improve ourselves and figure out what works, what people like or don't like. Not even sure if our format is effective.

If not cool, I'll edit this out.

This is exactly the kind of stuff I love. Final Games and Checkpoints have become some of my favorite gaming podcasts, and this one sounds right up my alley. Thanks for sharing

I'm a big fan of Easy Allies, Giant Bomb/ Beast, Game Informer and 8-4. Excited to try out Vice's new podcast and any others recommended in this thread. Thanks for posting this, it's very helpful!

Because Kyle Bosman keeps the moderating very clean and he is also very on point with his discussions, I always promote the Easy Allies Podcast, they are basically the group of GT folk who are together to make this podcast and other things possible.

the podcast is 90% focused on talking about gaming so no worries of off topic weird discussions most of the time.

I've somehow missed Checkpoints - thanks for bringing that up! Developer and design focused podcasts are really what I can't get enough of these days.

And JP LeBreton is the newest episode! Awesome. Time to learn more super esoteric DOOM mechanics and lore.

The only gaming related podcasts I listen to are produced by Kinda Funny, which is exactly the kind of content I like.

Since it's okay to share our own work, I run a podcast with a friend of mine on YouTube called The Controller Report. It's similarly structured to the Gamescast where each discussion topic is uploaded individually, but we do five topics Monday through Friday instead of four.

We talk about anything and everything related to the games industry, so we try to cover a breadth of topics. We do tend to be console focused, though, as that's what we game on primarily.

We're tiny, but the people who stick around seem to like us.

The Dude Soup podcast from Funhaus has been pretty good so far. Mostly about whatever is controversial in the industry at the time of recording with tangents about movies and stuff in between

I have really been enjoying the new Vice Gaming (soon to be Waypoint) podcast.

My friends and I do our own that we started a couple months back:
https://soundcloud.com/teamspacepod.

We're also on iTunes, Stitcher, and Google Play. We just do it for shits and giggles, covering latest news, our impressions of certain games, and we have a segment called "Hype or Gripe" that we rundown a list of games/movies/tv that we're either excited or not excited about. It was a little rough going the first couple weeks, but now I really feel like we're in a nice groove.

I love gaming podcasts, particularly 8-4play. Historically I would listen to the gamelife podcast from wired because I loved Chris Koehler but the production value of it is now beyond awful. They are recording a google chat that sounds like a 56k modem. I am baffled as to why a corporate run podcast like this sounds like ass when something like retronauts or the cagcast can sound like it was recorded in a studio by professionals.

Awesome, thanks for this. Been looking for new podcasts for a while now, to fill in the time between EZA content :p

More people should try the Scorecast, which is done by a game studio in Japan founded by two foreigners who worked in the Japanese game industry for many years. They often have guests who are also foreigners in the industry, and they talk quite a bit about the life there and how the work environment is.

I'm the co-host of a small Podcast! The Pens&Pixels Popcast.

D0hu91Qm.png

We talk a little more than just games (movies/comics) but with an art slant oftentimes. We always do a news segment then a topic. We're both artists (graphic designer and Concept art teacher) and occasionally we do full on art advice topics but I think even non-artists can enjoy those as well.

SoundCloud and iTunes if anybody wants to check us out!

We'd appreciate any feedback :D

(There's also a Hunter X Hunter podcast tucked in that feed for AnimeGAF)

Saw this a few days back, had it in my queue

Is it more general discussion on making art in those mediums or discussion on how art design influences gameplay/game design? I'm interested in stuff akin to Artistry In Games (ie Setting The Mood: How in-game environments affect the way we play)

I'm a big fan of Match 3 hosted by Patrick Klepek, Gita Jackson and Sam... the school teacher (I can't for the life of me remember his last name). It's pretty great and while games are generally the focus they delve into non-gaming topics a bit as well.

CoolGames Inc. is a pretty funny podcast where hosts Griffin McElroy and Nick Robinson crowd source game ideas and try to flesh them out into actual games (well, kinda). They also have had guests like Danny O'Dywer, Patrick Klepek, Dave Lang, Austin Walker and others who I can't think of at the moment.

A big recommendation to Steve Gaynor's Tone Control podcast. Each episode includes a well-known designer/developer and the discussion is related to a few games the guest has been developing & how their career has evolved over the time. Especially the Neil Druckmann and Ryan Payton episodes was really interesting stuff to listen.

Great thread! I love GiantBombcast, Giant Beastcast, Vice's New Gaming Podcast, Cane and Rinse.

Also wanted to mentioned IGN Unfiltered, great long-form interviews with major industry guests.

I produce my own talk show, Neighborhood Game Club. It's a fun game collection/retrospective show with a variety of guests. I've interviewed the creator of Hyper Light Drifter, members of Mega64, Sam Brown from Whitest Kids U' Know, and more.

Bomb, Beast, Vice, 8-4, and sometimes DLC for gaming podcasts for me. Used to do PS I Love You, but it got a bit repetitive.

Awesome topic! I'm a huge fan of gaming podcasts. Started listening with the Garnett Lee back in the day and moved around from there. Currently I'm enjoying 8-4, Giant Bombcast, Nintendo Voice Chat and some others.

I also host my own weekly podcast Game Crunch:

1200x630bf.jpg

We're on the usual places: iTunes, Stitcher and Google Play Music Store. Each week we talk about what we've playing, news, etc. If anyone wants to give us a try I'd love to hear some feedback. We're always trying to get better at what we do!

We touch on a bit of that but it's not an every episode kind of thing. We have a talk on best environments and use of colour a couple weeks back which is probably closest to what you're looking for.

Throwing out a nod to 4Player Podcast. Became one of my favs after discovering them a few months back.

I've been listening to 4Player Podcast for about 8 or so years now and it's my favorite podcast by far. They're a great group of guys and got a great, dedicated community. They talk about the games they've been playing, some of the latest news in the industry and are quite funny.

You can find the podcast on their main site, YouTube, Soundcloud, and iTunes.

Edit: Here's the thread where we talk about Radio Free Nintendo, the podcast from Nintendo World Report.
It's really sad how little recognition this show gets on GAF.

It's wonderful weekly Nintendo discussion and analysis from intelligent, funny, interesting, lifelong fans. 3/4ths of the crew post regularly on GAF too - not to mention they just raised over four grand for sick kids with their insane 13 hour live telethon! How much more could they have gotten in donations if this show got more recognition from GAF's hardcore Nintendo crowd?

I strongly advocate this particular show be added to the OP as to not get lost in the shuffle of the rest of this thread!
