TITANFALL | 2 Multiplayer Previews

Why do you think it's a bug? They said upfront that sliding is meant maintain momentum. This was 100% intended by what they've said about sliding, just like bunnyhopping was 100% intended in TF1.

I think it looks awesome and why would it be unnecessary? What even defines unnecessary? Grappling hook is "unnecessary" but included because it's fun and adds a lot to the game. Bunnyhopping or slide hopping or whatever you want to call it, it's just one part about Titanfall that makes it great.

I'll have to see how it is at launch to determine whether slide is better than just hopping but I think it will be based on videos. High skill cap movement is important for the game imo.

I think it looks like a bug not because it maintains/builds momentum, but because how you can go into a slide and jump instantly upon landing.

I'm not saying sliding is unnecessary at all. I'm specifically talking about slide hopping. You can queue up a slide while still in the air, and jump instantly. That seems unnecessary to me. Why not have a proper hopping mechanic instead?

I love the sliding mechanic. I even asked for it before Titanfall 1 came out. And it looks like they added proper first person animations for wall running as well!

There are two things that I feel Titanfall is missing:

-sliding. Like in Crysis 2 & 3, where you can slide without losing too much speed. It would be a nice way to move down some stairs, ramps or just to be hard target.

-a proper first person animation for wall running. From a 3rd person perspective, the pilot touches the wall with his hand, but from a first person perspective, he keeps holding his weapon, which looks a bit unnatural.

Holy shit at the nitpicking over the controls/mechanics. I'm starting to believe that some people just want this game to fail. I get it, the Tech test week 1 was disappointing. Get over it.

Polygon expressed concern over the Pilot centric maps, but called the mechanics near perfect. And from the gameplay videos? I'd agree with them.
Yeah people are ridiculous. I only see it here and maybe on a few other sites but a majority of people on reddit are hyped now.

There is no more gaining momentum from bunnyhopping and you can't sustain momentum long with it either. Sliding is the only way now.

He won't be able to play MP though. Servers are online only on specific times and such. :)

Did he say how he got it?

Nah, just said that he has some valuable contacts. Almost finished the campaign, he's strongly positive with it, "very dynamic and with lots of interesting situations".

Fears from the 'beta-by-another-name' Tech Test that the studio had fundamentally botched what made Titanfall great are instantly allayed during your first game of the returning Attrition mode. Pilots move with the same precision and grace as they did before, map design is smart, tight and intricately woven to encourage wall running and jumping, and the snap of the weapons, abilities and the mighty Titans is perhaps even more inviting than before.

Ghostrobo (youtuber) said it's the best MP shooter this year, including Battlefield. He played it for 12 hours. Grain of salt with this one, not sure how reliable this dude is.

Why? because of the comment section? it's people trying to discredit the guy because he liked the game.

lets hope the reviews come in good. not because i give a shit about what a critic that played the game a few hours and has no idea what they're doing says, but because i know a lot of people put stock into these guys and their opinions.

Very nice to hear. I'm all the more convinced to get it next week. I squeezed everything I could out of TF1, time for a new addiction. :p

Nah just me, I tend not to trust most youtubers (that I don't know) when it comes to reviewing games. Still, a good sign that he liked it.

Edit:

Another MP review.

GhostRobo also is a huge fan of Evolve. I think he is one of the few youtubers who still make vids with this game.

The devs themselves are actively using slide hopping in what is supposed to be near final build of the game, it is not going to be a bug.

Why have any complex or challenging mechanics in a game? Why have wallrunning in titanfall 1? Why have active reloads or wallbouncing in gears? Why have fixed weapon spawns in quake?

It's part of the gameplay design. A challenging and rewarding way to move more quickly around the map.

It's absolutely baffling to me to see people turned off by the movement mechanics. That is key to this game along with the titan gameplay.

And this is nothing like marathon lightweight commando - this requires skill to accomplish, not just perks that enhance your character abilities.

I wasn't turned off from the game, I however asked what it would accomplish to have an extra input on an action you could pull off before with just one instead of two. You have the bunny hopping mechanic in Titanfall 1 too, only you didn't need to crouch, just jump. Now you have to crouch and jump in order to do the same action and I was wondering why the added extra input needed? It's the exact same action like the first game, now with just a unnecessary extra button input and people are praising it like the second coming. And I am glad to see that it's still in the game but I wonder why muddle the recipe? Like I said, I play on PC so it might not be as big of a problem for me, but I am mostly thinking for console. One guy pointed out it can be solved on console with a right controller scheme or a Elite controller, but Elite controllers are expensive as fuck and not really an option for many. Secondly, if few console players used this mechanic before because of how annoying it was with a controller scheme (I assume it was because you jumped with A), why would they use it now when it is potentially even more annoying (now A and another button)? :p

Proper bunnyhops in the original game on console was actually harder to get right. It's why most people couldn't do it on console. You had to practice it a lot and even still it wasn't perfect every time. This is easier to pull off actually despite having more mechanics.

The issue on console comes down to people not having the right control scheme, like i said. All of it is fixed with an elite controller. $150 is expensive but what it does for you in terms of FPS is absolutely critical. Your enjoyment of a game like Titanfall goes through the roof when you're able to properly move like a kb/m player.

Yep, which is why I choose XB1 + PC, simply because FPS games on consoles are 1 million times more enjoyable with an elite.

The mechanics are not required to play the game, but are crucial in play the game well. Willing to change habits and/or invest in additional time to practice even money on hardware are what separating average players to great ones, it is the same in all competitive games, like good Starcraft 2 players will always custom their hotkeys, use advanced mechanics like camera location, and invest in better keyboard/mice.

Yeah.. im curious to see what happens with the ps4 crowd. I highly doubt even 1% of the shooter population has a scuf or some type of modded ps4 controller.

i at least hope that some type of bumper jumper is available and used often by the PS4 crowd because damn the skill level and overall play will be really really low if everyone is running around pressing a face button to jump and slide.

Both bumper jumper and evolved are available on PS4.

Still can't say anything about it much, but I agree with what he said. :)

I'll link our review here once it's live later.

Who's doing the TF2 reviews OT? :)

How long is the campaign according to that Russian vid?

I'll ask him, but he uploaded only first two hours of campaign, I think it's like 5-6 hours, probably? I'll let you know when he responds.

Don't look if you don't want possible spoilers:
I just opened his last vid and it seems like we will get to play as antagonist, I'm not sure, because I closed the video immediately :D

UPD: As I said, he played the game for 2.5 hours and it doesn't feel it's gonna end soon, so yeah, probably 5-6 hours.

My Xbox is ready!!! Have played hundreds of hours in Titanfall so I cannot wait to play this! Titanfall was the game that got me into Xbox One in the first place!

What platform is everyone going for? I'm going PC!
Xbox One, though I'll certainly end up with all three versions eventually.

I took a day off of school and work for R1 and played from midnight until midnight the next morning with minimal breaks and that was all on the XB1 version, it only seemed right to do the same with R2 by spending all week working my ass off so I have a free weekend.

Only three more sleeps...

I'll go with 87. Though I'd love to see 90+.
Will the PC version support controllers and will it have autoaim?
Yes to both. I'd recommend Gamesager's videos on YouTube if you want to see what the aim assist on PC looks like (he played with a pad at the PC capture event).

Coliseum mode looks like a very, very cool idea! So pumped for TF2. Just hoping servers and everything are going to be fine this Friday on launch!

... Why do I click spoiler tags when I dont want to be spoiled. Sounds cool!
