Get your SSDs ready, PS4 Pro supports SATA3

are we still locked behind 2tb drives ? ie nothing bigger ?

Unless you want to run cables and mount your hdd outside the PS4, spend the cash on an expensive ssd, or, for the original PS4, use a Nyko databank (which slows down performance) than yes, we are still locked to 2tb drives.

Unless PS4Pro somehow manages to have a 15mm drivebay.

Also, reading around, it's kind of funny how people hate on this drive so much. Saying that SSHDs are pointless with SSDs being more affordable. But I find a drive like the FireCuda can be a very good drive for consoles and some weaker laptops. I agree it can't beat SSDs in speed and longevity, but this is still pretty good for the space and the speed given, even if it's only 5400 RPM. Also, 7200 RPM 2TB laptop drives are stupid expensive.

So what Does this exactly mean? Please give me some example of reduced loading times.

For example, getting in and out from houses kills it for me in Skyrim due to the loading Times - would such loading Times be reduced with this kind of hd?

Here's a comparison between an HDD and SSD for vanilla skyrim on PC:

Now mind you the CPU does matter even still so this may not mean you would see those kind of load times on a Pro.

I've the Nyko needs to make a different databank as the shape of the two consoles are different and so is the location of the harddrive.

Just ordered the 2TB FireCuda from Amazon.co.uk, hopefully it'll get here by the 10th.

This one?

i'm keeping an eye on it. i don't find myself needing more than 1TB. I've only once got close to the 500GB on my launch PS4 but 2TB is nice, but a 1TB for £75, like the Seaget "PS4 SSHD" is pretty decent for price.

That's the one, I'm disappointed that it isn't a 7200rpm drive but it does seem to be the best drive available for the Pro without going fully SSD, which I don't want to do. I currently have a 2TB hdd in our PS4 and although I'd be OK dropping to a 1TB, I'd only really do that for 1TB SSD at a lower price than you can get them for.

There's no point getting more than you need to get and if you think that 1TB suits you better and you don't think an upgrade will be needed a later date, go for it.

So I nabbed a 1 TB Samsung 850 Evo of Newegg via eBay for $269. I didn't think that was a bad price for the undisputed king of Sata III SSDs.

Why is everyone getting SSHD when surely something like a 1TB Samsung Evo SSD would be far and away better?

So how does the Firecuda compare against other SSHDs with 8GB NAND?
Here's a review of the FireCuda. Seems pretty impressive.

FireCuda review
Sweet! I can't wait to dive into this review.

EDIT - This "review" leaves a lot to be desired. It's more an ad than a true review and it focuses solely on the 3.5" drive.
Yes it is. Got mine today.
Ditto. It is, however, just sitting here on my computer desk in its anti-static bag, taunting me until November 10.

I grabbed a 500gb Samsung 850 evo, my original had a wd black 7200rpm drive and that helped huge but this time I'm bringing out the big guns lol

Firecuda sold out again on Newegg and I can't use PayPal credit on the other sites that have it in stock.

Just went with the Barracuda instead. I'm okay with that.

Does the cache size on HDD's really matter? Is that something that only PC's can benefit from, or is it a passive thing? I don't know how it works.

I think the drive adapts to how you use it. If you use a certain file more often it will keep that in the Flash so you have quicker access to it. It's 8gb so it can load a significant amount. I'm pretty sure there is a speed difference but how much we won't know until someone test it.

My Firecuda is out for delivery today. Guess they missed a scan somewhere in the process. Looking forward to just staring at it while I wait for my PS4 Pro.

Thanks! I remember when 32mb was impressive back in the day. The one I ordered is 128mb.

Thats a 3.5 drive dude.

Not going into a PS4 Pro

Yep. And it's a pretty laughable impressions too, guy seemed just happy to have one.

I'm *hoping* the Firecuda 2.5" 2TB is a good option for PS4 owners, but dropping down to 8GB NAND is worrisome enough to want to wait on benchmarks. At 32GB you could be safe to assume several games + OS files would stay in the NAND cache, whereas here it could be emptying the fridge (in theory) with each game you play, and probably more often within a game if it's using most of a Blu Ray disc. For the ~$150 canadian its just a pretty significant premium until we know more.

I had the 1TB SSHD and it was faster than the original HD.
