Whenever I see posts like these about the Tomb Raider games, I wonder if we live in parallel universes. Like, you played Bizarro Tomb Raider and Bizarro Rise of the Tomb Raider and I played the normal ones that are excellent.

Obviously you are expressing your opinion but there are no other games the where fanbases seem to feel the exact opposite of each other so often. At least, not to my knowledge.

well...i liked both games but he made some good points

the writing sucks, i'll agree with him
i don't really care about any of the characters...don't even get the point of including jonah in the game, simply as a cheap potential loss for lara?
bloat..i don't agree but i think that's a reasonable criticism of the new collectibles in ROTR
villains were rote and forgettable. an extranational organization has a lot of money and power and searches for mystical powers...great.
luddington voice acting is whatever, i'm neutral, nothing memorable in either a negative or positive way. i could take it or leave it.

I hope it's true. Sounds good enough. I am not blown away by that title, it's little basic but like i said it sounds good enough.

I hope that next game will be even darker.

Hopefully we only have to endure one more of these turds before they reboot it again. One day we will get a new Tomb Raider with challenging puzzles and platforming...one day....
And who is buying that? That genre is dead. These games are too expensive to make for the small fanbase they have.

Your best bet is hoping an indie dev does something like original TR. They're never going back to that style of game, it's just not popular compared to a set piece driven TPS.

I hope the "shadow" is Indiana Jone's because none of the Uncharted or the latest Tomb Raider have (anymore)

What was 'dark' about the prior game? The lack of lighting inside caves?

Looking at TF2 it's not guaranteed to do well even as a multiplat. Rise could not possibly have lived up to expectations, I say it's funded again and is a big MS E3 2017 reveal for the Scorpio

Well, one could say that the last five games (or the last two for those poor, deluded souls who liked the LAU trilogy :D) have marked a rather dark time for the franchise :p.

Maybe this time the writing wont be awful
Maybe they'll make characters worth giving a shit about
Maybe there wont be as much useless bloat like level of greek, level of roman, collecting ores, herbs and other shit just give me a focused narrative
Maybe the villains will be good this time around
Maybe Camilla Luddington will learn how to act
Man and how about that story I already don't remember anything about? What was father Croft's problem again?
The post-credit scene was the best thing, such graceful setup for the 3rd game
Oh and raise your hand if at times you would forego doing upgrades at the camp just so you wouldn't hear those cringe inner monologues.

Also, how many people do you guys think legit cried at that
Jonas death fakeout scene? I mean when you can't make us care about a character who's not only been there since the first game but is also one of Lara's closest friends, I think you've got a problem.

I can't wait for Mediocrity of the Tomb Raider, the Third. You've got my axe, Crystal Godnamics.

damn! nothing to add :) ...

Jason from Kotaku basically published a story that he heard the same title for the next tomb raider:
http://kotaku.com/name-of-next-tomb-raider-leaks-because-guy-had-it-open-1788419554

Hm, the more interesting bit of info is here

“But wait,” you might be thinking. “Isn’t Tomb Raider developed by Crystal Dynamics, a studio in San Francisco?” You would be right—except we hear Eidos Montreal, the large studio behind Thief and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, is helming Lara Croft’s next adventure.

So what is Crystal Dynamics doing?

Same situation as the book?

I'm in. Shadow of whatever and everything.

What happens. I couldn't get through the book.

Don't know much in the book, nor do I know fully of what going on with the comic recently but:

Even through Lara interrupted the ritual, Himiko was able to take control of Sam later. This ends up putting her into a mental ward and in more recent events, killed a nurse and escaped with a few other patients.

Apparently what is going on now is
that she is planning to return to Yamatai.

Are you in a metal band? Because that was BRUTAL. *Throws up devil horns, guitar riff sounds from nowhere*

And I liked the last 2 games. ;)

I just can't believe they wouldn't have their employees use screen covers to make it impossible to see what's on the screen from an angle, i.e. a solution specifically made for this kind of situation. My brother works for a consulting company which is much smaller and with a lot less valuable secrets than something like this, and all their work computers are using these black covers you can only see through when looking right at it.

This better be more about Tomb Raider than, "The Croft family back story of boring stuff".

They had so much potential with the reboot, but they kind of blew it massively in Rise of the Tomb Raider. And going by how it ended, it still will be this shit.

The best part of the game is the exploration. If the next time doesn't do more of that, I am out.

edit: This is why Uncharted have taken over the heritage of what Tomb Raider did, 20 years ago.

Eidos Montreal??

What does this mean for Deus Ex?

Please for the love of god don't put that on the backburner for this dreck.

Rise of the Tomb Raider was a mega disappointment.
Crappy story.
Inexisting writing.
Poorly designed combats and terrible aiming system.
The only good thing was the exploration and the tombs but the puzzles were all pretty simple.

If the next TR is handled by Eidos Montreal that's a pretty big and welcome news.

Oh god, Eidos Montreal is making a new Tomb Raider and Deus Ex?

The name's dumb enough for me to believe it.

This rumour about it being made by Eidos Montreal rather than Crystal Dynamics is a big deal though; if they approach this in the same spirit of how they approached Deus Ex then I'm more excited for the next game being by them than I am with Crystal Dynamics making it (of course it could also be another Thief 4).

As far as i know Eidos Montreal has two teams if not even more for mobile GO games. They have 500 people there sooo.

Square Enix Montreal are the ones that are doing the GO series.

Eidos Montreal did work on Rise a little bit, particularly with the optional tombs, along with TR2013 MP, so they will probably help again in some way.

Edit: Oh wait, Eidos Montreal is replacing CD with this?! That would be quite something, and bit sad honestly, but guess CD would be able to do something else least (or maybe throw in another Lara Croft game).

Legit rather have a new Crystal Dynamics TR, gloomy and joyless as the last two are, than a new TR from the guys who made the terrible Thief and Deus Ex MD.

At least Crystal Dynamics has made a couple of great TRs..

Morrigan Stark

Arrogant Smirk
LOL that title... >_<

I still need to play the last two. Are they still good if I strongly dislike Uncharted? Are they different enough?
Similar core gameplay, except with padded fluff, and without the charming characters and solid writing of Uncharted. Avoid at all costs.

So what is Crystal Dynamics doing?
Hopefully not resurrecting the mangled corpse of Legacy of Kain... :(

If this is real, it would be extremely odd for Eidos Montreal to be handling this. Especially since Crystal Dynamics hired someone to be the creative director on the sequel. Maybe SE pulled a Deus Ex and started developing a sequel before Rise released and underperformed.

With Eidos Montreal at the helm I expect shitty animations and project mismanagement, unless they've finally improved after almost 10 years with two major projects facing development troubles (HR+MD)

The name is also dumb as hell, I can't believe they went with that (well, I guess I can after "Rise of the Tomb Raider" as the name of the reboot sequel)

Eidos Montreal? Awesome.

Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raiders have been awful. I guess they'll have to keep some things similar though.
