Seems like Battlefield 1 is doing well on digital, that or SAO, WoFF and Berserk didn't as they couldn't knock it from #1 on the PS Store.

Berserk was also sold at 10% off at launch, a treatment usually saved for western indie games.

Vita version of Berserk did worst of all Vita games released this week too, so digital won't be saving Vita Guts.

So, not only Berserk is going for that bomba mark, WoFF is also going for that bomba huh.T_T

It actually did. It was selling pretty decently in Japan before it with a few dips.

Revisionist history. I assume you were a Vita fan? I only make that assumption because that was the only group that said the 3DS was bombing at that point.
Well them and Saturo Iwata.

The 3DS wasn't selling all that well at launch. Sure it's a ton better than all of the console/handheld launches after it (Vita, Wii U, PS4 & XB1), but the PSP was outselling it fairly soon after launch iirc. OOT helped a bit, and the September conference is really what got it going.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

Wrong thread to ask about that - people get too defensive when talking about potential 3rdParty titles showing up on Switch.

There is a difference between not selling that well and bombing - 3DS had no content in the first couple months which was the main reason it underperformed, eShop and OoT3D release didnt help either.

MH3G, Mario 3D Land, MK7 and co. were always planned for the first Holiday season and the system would have dominated from that point on - the price drop just made sure that there is no question about it and was essential for the western markets.

No one will call the Switch a failure if it sells like the 3DS did in its first months - which at that time was a overpriced portable, without games and a actual competitor (PSP).

Didn't the earthquake have an effect? Legit asking, as I wasn't following the numbers in the first couple of months. I heard the earthquake argument before and it does seem like something that would cut a new product's momentum short.

Ahh. That is also a huge factor. As that earthquake also mentioned by Ninty that it delayed some of their game development right?

The earthquake had an effect on sales of everything here related to leisure stuff. im sure it hurt 3ds a bit especially with the way the earthquake caused in general the delays and cancelations of not only games but practically all major leisure events in the country for months out of respect to the victims. But yeah that was just a sucky time in general for anytype of entertainment in Japan.

Yes it is just vita fans.....

Please, in your infinite wisdom, explain why Nintendo cut the price by 80$ in less than 6 months and offered up an ambassador's program for early adopters.

- Capcom predicts 100million PS4's and 40~50million Xbox One's will be sold by 2020.
- Predicts Street Fighter 5 will have long legs due to its e-sports popularity
- Capcom is a rare Japanese video game developer with a heavy focus on overseas consumers, must make games to appeal to the foreign consumers
- Talks about Monster Hunter 4 G's sales are being lower in the West compared to Japan, but is explained that it is due to the fact that the handheld market is only 10% of the dedicated video game market compared to Japan where handhelds are popular, and that they are taking the proper procedures to make sure that Monster Hunter grows overseas

That MH5 PS4 rumor might be true after all. Then again it could also relate to a Switch MH - but if western market growth is the No. 1 priority MH5 on PS4 makes sense.

Hey Capcom, why don't you do a MH for the Switch...

Makes too much sense I guess, selling THE multiplayer handheld game in Japan just before spring. They won't do it will they?

What's the chance of seeing Tales games on the Switch?
Tales has a long history of constantly underperforming on handhelds in Japan whenever they try anything mothership-like (best performing handheld Tales still is the Radiant Mythology series on PSP, the last try in Innocence R and Hearts R on Vita bombed worst of all and any Tales game). Whether this has any chance to change imo depends on how much both Bandai Namco and the Tales audience accept Switch as a home console. Maybe they'll do a Switch/PS4/Steam cross-platform release, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

It's selling on par with the previous entry in the end, slightly better when all is said and done even.

Berseria will sell worse than Zestiria adding all versions. It was at 342.269 with digital at the end of September. Late PS4 release gave Zestiria additional sales that won't come again.

[PS3] Tales of Xillia # <RPG> (Bandai Namco) {2011.09.08} (¥8.379) - 512.544 / 670.182
[PS3] Tales of Xillia 2 # <RPG> (Bandai Namco Games) {2012.11.01} (¥8.380) - 331.533 / 453.810 <75,60%>
[PS3] Tales of Zestiria <RPG> (Bandai Namco Games) {2015.01.22} (¥8.715) - 316.824 / 368.829 <80-100%>

edit: Media Create has PS3 Zestiria at 393.821, it's more clear there.

Last known retail numbers were >330k for Berseria (dengeki early october) , digital numbers for first month around ~24k and it got a 20-30% discount after that.
Zestiria didn't have a digital version on PS3.

I don't think it's unreasonable to think that OG Berseria release will match the OG release of Zestiria, and if we want to add all versions then we'll have to wait for the budget rerelease of Berseria to happen (all entries in the series got, at least, one) and even in that case I see no reason for the Berseria rerelease to not match the sales of the Zestiria one especially when word of mouth has been the deciding factor for the sales of the budget rerelease this past decade (Vesperia >>> Graces F >>>> Xillia > Xillia 2)

Not that rare

The only thing stopping MH PS4 was Capcom's will, or lack of it, to invest notable money in its games. If MH PS4 is as ambitious as I think it is I would be surprised if they were handling it themselves.

1-Considering it couldnt even sell 100k in its second quarter I cant see it

2- Good luck trying to chase the golden goose with a japanese property trying to appeal to the west likings while not losing the original fans

I don't see the point mixing Dengeki retail with Famitsu digital whan Famitsu has given complete numbers until the end of September. The game has disappeared from charts after the beginning the October and should have dropped at 3 digits numbers by now.

August
PS4 207.690 (186.869 / 20.821)
PS3 93.654 (90.704 / 2.950)

September
PS4 25.321 (22.305 / 3.016)
PS3 15.604 (15.353 / 251)

Total
PS4 233011 (209.174 / 23.837)
PS3 109258 (106.057 / 3.201)

ALL 342.269 (315.231 / 27.038)

Zestiria on PS4 got these sales at its first weeks
16.097 (10.449 / 5.648)

If we're not mixing numbers then we shouldn't compare MC LTD of Zestiria (which had a 25k higher FW) with Famitsu LTD of Berseria either.

Point is that it will end in the same ballpark and that it's not falling in the same category of "underperforming titles" than the other games being quoted, whether it will be 20k below (as you seem to argue) or 20k higher (that would be me)

I mean if you look at the other games

Berserk Musou
YW3
Dragon Quest Monster: Joker 3
MHS
Taiko no Tatsujin on 3DS

There's just the new usual musou bomb, 3 titles not even selling half what the previous episode did in the same series and and... one I'm not sure how we should categorize (MHS).

Regarding Zestiria PS4, FW sales are almost irrelevant, sales of budget titles will come mostly from their legs (or lack of) in the long term, it could end up anywhere between 30k (Xillia, Xillia 2) and 300k (Vesperia-Graces F)

MH on Switch and PS4. If the plan is getting that western market, it seems obvious to me. It goes with what I've been saying that these Japanese franchises should go multiplat. This is assuming it is possible, of course, because the situation is complex and it isn't just, "Okay, move it to everything!".

140k for SAO (both versions)

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
So, in the end, WoFF really sold a lot less than what FF Explorers did in its first week.

MHS hold well. Hoping for a good holiday boost. T___T

It sold 100k combined on a far smaller install base than FF Explorers (which did 160k first week) came out on though.
At some point, install base doesn't matter for games like FFEX and WOFF, which have a limited audience. Install base is important for games with wide appeal.

Still, I don't see the point of this comparison.

WoFF seems to have a bigger budget and more marketing though.
Maybe so but comparing them as FF spin offs it did decent relative to the size of install base it was released for. Not like FF Explorers did way better relative to the install base it was released on. And as DriftingSpirit said I don't think it had much more of a marketing budget.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I guess a MonHan clone (FFEX) is more sellable than a Pokemon clone (WOFF).
