Animal Crossing Direct Nov. 2, Miitopia featured in JP stream (no mobile/Switch)

That's great that the touch-screen design features from HHD are becoming mainstay in the franchise. It's as if the Animal Crossing team never stops working.

How do you get it? Do I need to talk to someone?

Edit: Ok, so you have to pay off the storage unit to get it. What a vague process.

Edit Edit: You don't have to pay it off, just buy it. Ok, finally. Whew.

Can the special character amiibo (Zelda/Splatoon) actually move into your town, or are they condemned to never leave their RV?

Is it weird to theorize that most or all of these update features were meant for a proper Animal Crossing Wii U, but had its features reallocated to New Leaf due to the Wii U not taking off as well as Nintendo wanted it to?
To me it feels much more like some kind of trial for the mobile version / tie-in; the MEOW stuff as a second currency is pretty much straigth from the F2P model, for example. Maybe they want to test out how people use some of those features. Overall, a fun / weird update though.

I did feel like that was the case when I noticed daily quests for the mutual exchange of wealth, it's not something you would find often unless it was an MMORPG or a f2p game.

So would this game be good to get in to now? Never played AC before, and I was contemplating getting the game for the holidays.

If you're interested in trying out the Animal Crossing series, then I'd say this is definitely the game to pick up. Many people consider it the best and fullest game in the series yet. A new retail version of the game is releasing this holiday with the patch integrated, so I'd recommend picking that up once it goes on sale in late November/early December (depending on where you live)!

(Personally, my favorite game in the series is the GameCube one, but I think that's mostly nostalgia talking and it would be impossible to find. Plus, there are some nearly indisputable improvements made to the franchise that have been made as the series progressed, and the 3DS version, especially with the patch, represents that progress to the fullest.)

I'd recommend you check out the game's OT to get opinions on the game as a newcomer. Those people will also be a great resource when starting if you decide to pick it up.

Yeah, that too, pretty Farmville-y. Will be interesting to see how the mobile game and the Switch game interact with each other.

Where can I find wisp?

After patching up the game and getting introduced to things (you may need to collect your instruction manual furniture from your mail) the next day Wisp will contact you while you're wandering around your village.

EDIT: Got my New 3DS and Wii U on order from Nook. Anyone know how long it takes items to arrive?

Also, does anyone know which Splatoon amiibo has the blue inkling boy hairstyle with goggles from the Direct?

I didn't see anything in the press release, but do they have a sort of NG+ feature?

I bought New Leaf on my N3DSXL but I only put like 30 minutes into it. I'm wondering if it would be better just to start fresh with this update or just re-orient myself...

Okay damn... I cant figure out this update.

Where is the spirit guy that you summon for Amiibo card reading? Where is that item?

And how do you do the tutorial so you can move furniture in your house like in HHA?

Is there any way to make it so villagers don't leave? Took me ages 'trading' to get the neighbours I wanted the one left almost immediately without mentioning it, was pretty annoying! Slowly stopped playing it after that.

For me he was just outside the town hall this morning. I think he comes the day after you update.

I think it's tied to the storage upgrade, I've not tested it yet though so I can't confirm.

To get the HHD interface:

  1. Pay off any debts you may have on your house you can upgrade your house again.
  2. Talk to Nook and choose the secret storage room upgrade.
  3. The next day go back to Nook and he'll introduce you to Lottie.
  4. Complete the tutorial and you'll have unlocked the interface.

Thanks for this.

There is a NG+ style feature--you can sell your existing town and catalogue and start a new town with lots of money in the bank--but if you've only been playing for 30 minutes there's absolutely no need to restart.

If I sell my town but keep my catalog I still lose the exclusive items don't I? Like the DLC stuff you can't order? I'm really tempted to start from scratch but I dunno about that. :/

So is there any real difference between the current Animal Crossing amiibo cards and the new ones? Is it just different villagers?

I can't believe I'm thinking about buying these stupid cards that are stupid.

The new ones will summon the villagers to the campground in their RV the older ones will just allow the villagers to move in.

They're the same otherwise. I guess it's worth noting the new ones don't let you use them in Amiibo Festival or Happy Home Designer.

I thought about buying cards but they don't have much value compared to amiibos. It's fucking piece of paper.

I'd rather pay $10 for Maple amiibo.

Only the new ones have the villager setting up in an RV, along with new items, and they are also exclusive villagers to the cards, can't get them normally.

I wonder if they are permanent villagers or can they eventually move on, so a non Amiibo card owner could invite them to their village. They are villagers you pay for, so it would be odd to lose access to them.

Well, you can just scan the card again and have them move back in if they moved away

So will the old cards just automatically make them move in? What if your town is full? What about the special cards?

The RV cards seem more appealing but honestly I don't care about any of those characters.

If your town is full you get to CHOOSE who to kick out, which is a pretty rad game changer.

Ok, so where do I find Wisp? He's just going to be somewhere in my town? I've got Crazy Redd here. Will that cancel out Wisp appearing today?

EDIT: Nevermind, got him right after posting this!

I still have no idea how to use an Amiibo. I raced out like a moron yesterday to get one and now I can't use it. How do I get the Wii U and New 3DS? WHAT DO I DO?

You need to get the magic lamp. If you wander around town a bit you'll here a voice telling you to approach. Once you get near enough the lamp will appear and you can place it in your house. This only happens starting the day after the download apparently

Howwww do I get meow coupons??? The terminal just says there are none to get.

Check the tab for your mayor card thingy and you'll see there's another tab there with missions that will earn meow coupons. The terminal awards them when you've cleared these missions.
