Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 are now both able to be played on Xbox One. Since the games were multidisc, there is no digital option on Xbox One. Sounds like you haven't checked since then. Yes it's improved, and in many cases (RDR, Halo Reach, Bayonetta) XBO back compat is superior to the 360 version.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it's free on Xbox one, but a gold feature on 360 so technically you'd need gold to transfer it once.
