So far it hasn't seemed very "balanced", which is what people seem to notice.

on teaser with the Father, who is not playable

On teaser with sis Ryder at E3 which was the first time we saw face of one the MCs

The tech Presentation for the PS4 Pro with bro Ryder

the new teaser with bro Ryder

and there is a GI Cover for both of them

Standard Cover is just a helmet

deluxe cover is a man, cold be bro Ryder or the Father, but no face is shown.

So yeah it's much more balanced

here is btw. an actual quote why sis Ryder was shown first

"When we debuted male Shepard back in 2006, 10 years ago, it was a time when we drew inspiration from traditional entertainment marketing," BioWare boss Aaryn Flynn told me. "So: 'We need a iconic main character. We need an iconic everything else'.
"But I think the whole industry, us included, have moved beyond that. Our games let you choose your main character, I think everyone gets that nowadays. You don't need to see a character to identify with, in the same way you might on a movie poster. People want to create their own characters, customise them, and we're embracing that."

Well, looks like I'm in the majority of thinking that was one suck ass trailer.

When something is that bombastic and that boring at the same time, you know it's gone very wrong.

It feels like the ME vibe has been diluting and diluting ever since ME1.

ME2 still had it, and was a far superior game to 1. ME3 was already starting to feel washed out, and now ME:A looks to have lost all of that original identity. Here's hoping I'm wrong.

waiting on the gameplay like..........

Well... I found that pretty underwhelming. Maybe it was the level of bombast they apparently thought was essential to the trailer, but that's not what's particularly interesting about that universe. Some of the enemy designs too just looked very uninspired.

Positive things; I am glad that it looks like they're moving back to the sleeker looking armor. The chunkier stuff of ME2-3 felt a lot less futuristic to me. Some of the ship designs looked cool.

I don't know. I'll be waiting until the game is properly vetted before diving into this. I just can't take Bioware on their word anymore.

I expected more but they seem to know their way around the Frostbite engine a lot better now. I hope the gameplay trailer inspires the same confidence.

I am disappointed BroRyder is front and center again but if they stick to their word FemRyder better be given the spotlight for the gameplay trailers, and sans helmet for some bits too.

I want to believe Bioware cares about better representation for the women in their games but the Asari with the exposed belly, the boob plate armour and the eye rolling model released a few months back of the male and female PC's which had the female PC cocking her hips and butt to the side and sticking her boobs out while the male PC got to stand like a proper soldier, doesn't inspire much confidence

So rambling I-just-arrived-at-work commentary...

...yeah, I think the key issue I have with Andromeda's mess of marketing is the lack of thematic coherency in establishing the narrative and concept for what Andromeda is supposed to be. This trailer exemplifies the material that is being thrown around without established grounding.

If you're a hardcore fan combing over forums and leaks and interviews and magazines and whatever else, sure you've probably painted a decent picture of the premise. But for everyone else, aka the majority, what does a trailer like this really exemplify? What is the core premise, what is the audience supposed to invest in, and what journey will they be taken on? What are the tonal beats? What are the themes?

It's all very rushed, and almost like an amalgamation of pieces from the last three games but without that focus. As a debut cinematic trailer for an entirely new game that is more or less a soft reboot of an established franchise, it really should have started from the beginning. Establish the Andromeda Initiative, the protagonist, where they're going and why. Then hit them with the hook; the event that spins the story in its direction.

What we see here is some kinda space adventure, but also a bunch of action against...something? Vagueness as to who the new species are, or where they're based, and their motives. Is the theme survival? Exploration? Colonisation? Social politics? War?

Again, I liked the trailer, but I say this as an established fan with a shamefully insatiable desire for more Mass Effect. But I feel, at this point in the marketing cycle, when this is really the first proper reveal, a coherent set-up trailer that concisely establishes the premise, hook, and core themes would have been so much more valuable than this. Because while I'm still excited it's still really hard to distinguish what makes Andromeda its own unique beast, its own thematic arc, over just another Mass Effect thing.

Anyone know a decent place to download 4K trailers? My Internet isn't set up yet so want my brother to bring them on a flash drive to watch in full glory?

For what's essentially the games first proper reveal, it's a bit worrying. It implies it's going to be a pretty generic action game, rather than a vast sci-fi RPG with an interesting universe and decisions to make like the previous games. The trailer has pretty much a theme of just "Things go bad and we have to fight everyone now" rather than hinting at there being any depth beyond that.

To me it has the entire wrong tone, rather than being entirely hostile aliens and 'epic' moments. the trailer should have had more interaction with other species and exploration. It gives no sense of scale or wonder like the previous games had with the setting.

Even the design of the main enemies feels very generic and we've only seen a glimpse of them so far. Based on what the trailer shows they seem to be the usual bone-armour covered grey/brown 'ugly' evil aliens with a vaguely organic look to their armour; so quite generic. For once i wish there would be some more thought put into them than that and they'd have a more unique and memorable identity to them, maybe their technology having some sort of dieselpunk or retro sci-fi aesthetic for example.

I don't know about 4K but I tend to go with Gamersyde when I want to download a trailer at the highest quality possible.

That's a good point. The trailer seems to already introduce a big bad while I still don't really know what's even going on in that galaxy. They should either have kept it more vague, like for example the very first Mass Effect trailer, or put more focus into laying out the themes.

Not trying to be snarky, but isn't that what the game is for? I hate movie trailers these days because they are basically Cliffs Notes version of the movie. I don't want to know what is going on with respect to story/plot specifics. All I want to get from a Mass Effect trailer is some sense of the premise.

and we are 5-6 months out

I doubt they wanted to blow their wad the first day. Need to build up some excitement.

Trickle out the information bit by bit

I think in that case it's better to just show footage from the early hours. The trailer seems to jump around a lot and already shows what appears to be the big villain. I think they could have done without the latter.

..this is it? Yeah that was pretty bad.

Way too many random quick cuts, fades to black and blaring *bwaaaaap* noise.

Ya, totally agree. I'd rather see a lot from the first hour of the game, and nothing from the rest of it.

That trailer honestly was kinda disappointing

1. Most of it was very dark and hard to see much detail
2. Insane amount of BF4-esque electronic vomic sound effects (I get that it fits more with ME, but they went too far here imo)
3. Very little actual gameplay
4. I have no idea what the hell is going on in the trailer
5. That subtle delay to Spring
6. They said female Ryder would be the focus for marketing, but all we have seen so far is the pretty boy male Ryder. :/
7. How the hell does the antagonist know English? Magic space translators apply to their galaxy too?
8. "we're the aliens :OOOOO" is a seriously stupid marketing line

and this is coming from a massive (heh) fan of the franchise.

Didnt technically Humans are aliens for them too?

The whole "We're the aliens!" line makes no sense at all. It's no different of a situation than when they encountered the other alien species for the first time; in both cases they're the outsiders that no one knows anything about yet, and it works the other way around as well. It's just an absolutely stupid thing to say and it seems like no thought was put into it.

Massive Mass Effect fan, but the trailer did nothing for me. ME is always good so I'm not too worried but it would be nice to be able to go into it with a little excitement that goes beyond the game's name. Mostly looking forward to seeing the multiplayer in action. ME3's cooperative mode was a blast. If they deliver the same (at the very least), then I think it will be fine.

It makes sense in the context of a conversation, not just shouted out randomly during a trailer.
