Its Musou(dynasty warriors)

About the easiest genre in Japan to do it seems, but i'll take it if i can play as Arturia.
Are these games any good? I really like the Fate universe but never really cared enough to check out all the spin off's. That said, is this game canon or just some side thing?

When dealing with Type Moon, "canon" is a very strange thing.

This game is canon to the Moon Cell verse at any rate. And to understand that, you need to have played Fate Extra. Extella is a semi sequel to Extra.

Fate Extra lives in its own continuity that you can basically understand if you've played its games.(Extra/CCC/Extella ect)

Aight. Thanks for the info. I might check these games out when I'm done with what I'm playing now.

Note that CCC was never actually officially localized. Playing the OG Fate Extra should be all that is basically required anyway to get this game.

Anyone importing?

I plan on buying it digitally tonight and if I really like it, will pick up the physical version when it comes out in the States next year.

Any word from XSEED if they plan on dubbing the English release?

My mind is too used to Kari Wahlgren Saber and David Vincent Gilgamesh.

Japanese voices only.

Musou (As opposed to a Fighting game, Soulslike, or any other Genre that meshes with the depiction of intricate moment-to-moment combat depicted by the VN and F/Z+UBW) + JP voices only + I only have a Vita = Well, guess I'll wait for a Steam release or me to ever finish Witcher 3 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Kinda wishing I didn't pick up Hyrule Warriors, because I think that'll give me all the fill of the Musou genre I'll ever need. Also prayers out for the Vita version not being ass like every other Vita+PS4 game.

Although honestly my main matter is that seeing one language and hearing another for extended periods produces migraines for me, especially when I can comprehend both and subtitles aren't a perfect match to the voices - Which they will never be in a professional localization. It's why I almost never use subtitles even in English games since there's a lot of games where the subtitles are abridged from the actual voiced dialog (Rockstar Games is very fond of this).

Forgot this game comes out tomorrow. Any reviews/impressions so far?

This is from GameFAQs:
I've played for about 6 hours so far. there seem to be only 5 or 6 actual battle arenas. no matter who you're playing AS, the fight in each arena will play out relatively the same. each story seems to have 5 or 6 20-minute missions, but again, very repetetive. The game's file is literally under 3gigs. I don't know what EXACTLY I expected from this game, but I expected more.

This description makes it seem very much like Senran Kagura, but there's clearly way more enemies to fight on the stages.

I'm downloading the game on both Vita and PS4 and will post impressions tomorrow.

OK, so really quick impressions:

-Looks like Type Moon is sole developer here. I thought that maybe Tamsoft or someone else might be involved, but didn't see any other logos.

-The game is pretty story-heavy and is told visual novel style, complete with different responses you can give. No idea what the hell is happening since I'm not all that familiar with Fate and am general just skipping through it. The cut scenes are both 2D and real-time.

-I love this game's aesthetic. It's bright and colorful with some unique-looking stages (For a musou game, anyway). The character models are pretty cartoony, but that fits in with the general Fate design.

-You can choose between a male or a female character, but this is just for the story; this character is the "Master" and you're playing as the servants in-game.

-The game play is typical musou style- You get two attacks, jump, dash, block, and super move buttons. You can also use different items (abilities?) with the d-pad and can also switch characters. I'm not sure if later levels will allow you to choose the partner, but on the first main level, I was playing as Nero (Saber) and had Archer as my partner. Didn't see anything come up that allowed for any kind of dual attack moves. Not sure if that's in this game or not. Don't remember it from previews.

-The PS4 version has a nice, generally smooth framerate that seems to be 60 FPS. Drops just a bit here and there, at least from the intro and first stages. There's TONS of enemies on-screen to beat up. More than a lot of other musou games, although most are all the same enemy model.

-The Vita version appears to be running at less than half the framerate of the PS4 version. I'd say maybe around 25 FPS? But before you decide to drop this version, it plays smoothly and seemed pretty stable from what I tried. I need to play more of this version though. There's also far, far less enemies on-screen and the resolution and effects are noticeably low-res. If you're only going to get one version, definitely get this on PS4, but the Vita version doesn't seem too bad-it's on par with say, Samurai Warriors 4 on Vita, but retains more details on the characters and levels. I'm not sure if it's PSTV compatible, but it would probably look pretty ugly on the big screen.

Should you import this? I'd definitely recommend holding off for the English release given the large amount of focus on the story.

Fate/Extella was the number one-selling game in Japan last week. Good debut...hope this becomes a new series for Type-Moon.

I've been playing more of it and am loving the crazy fast-paced speed of the battles and general level design aesthetic. Really nice use of colors on some levels. Also more crazy gameplay stuff- You can fill up a meter that seems to have different effects depending on your character. Archer just went into "hyper mode" and got stronger, but when I did this with Saber, she got a full-on cinematic transformation sequence, changed outfits, and got a set of flaming gauntlets. She was then insanely-strong and I was able to rip through a stage boss that had been giving me problems in seconds, lol.

You can craft armor that gives you enhanced abilities in battle, and set them to slots that are accessible with the d-pad. The character-switching mechanic is one of these. You can get health items, defensive items (summons another character to come out and assist) and more. Then you can slot in power-up items that increase speed or add enhancements like flame or lightening effects, just like the Koei musou games.

I'm pretty impressed, especially since this is the first game of its type from Type-Moon. My only complaints are typical with musou titles, I.E. not enough enemy variety (so far) and the difficulty could stand to be harder. I tried playing on hard and didn't find the AI any more aggressive, but instead enemy boss types were just much stronger and required a shitload more hits to take down. This was just the first level and it made it take forever to finish at level 1, so I switched to normal and had no trouble clearing it.

Definitely picking PS4 because framerate.

I played a long session last night on Vita and found it better than it came across when I first tried it last week. I think it was going from PS4 directly to Vita that made it so jarring. But it's still better on PS4 regardless because of the higher framerate and enemy counts.

I wish it wasn't at the expense of Fate/Extra, which was a great JRPG.

While I loved Extra, I think you and I are in the minority in considering it a good/great game.

Still, who knows where it'll go from here. The Extra-verse may become its own spinoff, what with the series coming out soon too.

Vita version definitely looks and plays better than most Musou games do on the Vita, IMO.

On the second story right now and still having a good time.

Looking forward to this, first time considering the PS4 version because of the 60fps, plus once it comes out in NA it'll have Pro Support too!

F/E was a decent enough VN but pretty garbage in its RPG aspects.

Maybe it's just me, but I find Extella's performane vis a vis the recent Musou spin-offs to be funny. Seems like Koei really lost their way with that series... or maybe the power of Type-Moon waifus is just way too real.

I'm glad the game is decent -- and honestly, that exceeds what I expected. Frankly, I was expecting the game to be another limp musou-esque game, much like the Senran Kagura games.

I thought Marvelous would port F/E and CCC to current platform in order to promote the anime, but I guess that's not happening.

I thought it was kinda fun once I got into it. Never thought I'd be planning out what is essentially rock-paper-scissors with charts and such. I had a huge word file with each monster's possible attack pattern. Struck me as fun anyway, but I can get why others didn't like it.

Anyway glad too the game is pretty good. I hope it has legs too, I want some servant DLC. At the bare minimum, I need my husbando Robin Hood in it, damn it! Him not being in it from the get-go is a travesty.

I'm still holding out hope.

Yes, it is. There's a sequel that was never localized called Fate/Extra CCC.

I couldn't find it on the Vita PSN Store but it popped right up when I searched for it on the web version of the store and downloaded it right to my Vita.

Just wanted to check the game out real quick last night, but before I knew it an hour and a half had flown by. The story has me hooked. I think I might be becoming a Fate fan. Time to check out those anime series now...

The game really is great, it's a shame that promotional material from Fate/Extella spoils a few Fate/Extra twists.

I really need to get around to playing Fate/Extra before Extella. I've watched and read most of the Saber Arturia stuff but very little of the Saber Nero universe.
