Battlefield 1 on PS4 Pro - Already improved framerate and resolution

I have a feeling Battlefield 1 is currently just patched to utilise the increased specs of the Pro rather then anything specific yet.

The improvements you've noticed sound pretty damn awesome though ?

Not really for a console with double GPU Power.

Quite away from what other devs are doing right now also.

1440p @ 60 fps would be a nice bump

This product is already widely available and we are paying customers so surely there's no limiting NDA?!

It doesn't stop EA's brand marketing agreement with Microsoft because we'll still not see commercial material associated with PlayStation.

This is nuts. If it's that bad maybe they can't even make technical changes that 'appear' to greatly improve the PS4 Pro version of the game.

It depends on what their contract with Microsoft says. If they promote PS4 Pro enhancements that could be construed as a violation of an exclusive marketing agreement in a way that patch notes would not.

Oh no I definitly agree, but worst case scenario - atleast we have a more consistent framerate, which is arguably the most vital improvement.

Yes...so they can let us all know what technical details have changed via patch notes. That would be enough.

To outright not tell paying customers is not right.

No one is telling them to make a commercial about the patch.

If I were Sony I would advertise sh..t out of improvements to Fifa and BF1.
Nobody can stop that and if EA is not active here, nothings stops Sony to use the opportunity.

Generally you try to be supportive of your business partners. Also each of these companies depend on the other to respect their business agreements and beyond snarky perfume ads that has mostly been the case.

Played for an hour now, still notice the resolution downscaling issue, framerate is a wee bit more stable. Its no upgrade imo.

I wonder if all they did was let it see the upclocked cpu and the new portions of the gpu but didn't really do anything else for it. That would account for the minor improvements some are seeing in MP.

Would be very dissappointing coming from the wizards at dice

Agree that respect is needed, but I think Sony could do something to praise PRO without hurting EA in this case.

I suspect that is exactly what they have done.

exactly. i tweeted dice, playstation, and yosp asking where the patch is. told them i paid $400 to upgrade to pro today because they said bf1 patch was day one and that i'm disappointed. no response so far.

No, only games that are locked at 30fps can't have there framerates boosted to 60.

CoD and BF1 aren't locked at 30.

Right, but I mean resolution can/will still be higher in MP games, right? It's just frame rate that isn't being messed with in MP games with locked frame rate.

Wait, so are you telling me MWR or IW multiplayer won't look any better? Or does it just not change frame rate?
No they can look better they just can't upgrade frame rate in MP. So if you target 30fps you can't go over that on pro. SP is a free for all though you can change it as much as you want.

Yep resolution can and has been improved. Titanfall 2 has a better resolution.

NDA should be over today right? Isn't DICE located in Sweden? its almost 4 P.M. there.

It's not a pro NDA. People think it is a Microsoft marketing NDA. No one knows though but it wouldn't make sense for Sony to tell them not to talk about it.

Oh thank God. Thanks. Got scared there. lol

Can confirm that it plays a lot smoother and the resolution is a lot more crisp but the dynamic resolution bug is still there if my eyes are to be beleived.

I saw the resolution change for a split second, a lot faster than it used to, but it still happened.
Will upload the recording to YouTube now and see what you guys think.

This mirrors my brief experience trying out a 64p Conquest match before work this morning. The entire experience just felt consistently more steady, no massive drops in frames out of nowhere. It was immediately obvious the second I joined a match.

Also like you, I did briefly see the resolution bug. It was much quicker than on my old PS4.

Company A doesn't want to piss off company B (who is giving them marketing money) by saying the product is superior on company C's platform. They also are pointing to an NDA/ Agreement that says they can't say certain things. Normal business.

PS4 has double the GPU power (actually 2.3x) so if OG PS4 can do 900p at 60 fps then 'technically' PS4 Pro can run it at double the resolution of 900p.

1600 x 900 = 1,440,000 pixels.
1920 x 1080 = 2,073,000 pixels.
2560 x 1440 - 3,686,400 pixels.

1,440,000*2.3=3,312,000 pixels. So it might not be able to run at exactly 1440p but we can come close.

If they run it at 1080p, we should be able to see better shadows, AA, AF and all kinds of extra goodies.

I dont think dice is under some NDA from Sony if that is what you are reffering to. Since a lot of developers have talked about their Pro-patches very openly

NDA from Microsoft probably, because they've marketing rights IIRC.

I just played my first match on CQ on the PS4 PRO. I have 90 hrs on BF1 so trust me I know very well how it looks on PS4OG(i was literally avoiding CQ because of its performance) .It is totally different game on the new console, both resolution and framerate wise.I did not trust anyone until I saw it with my own eyes.I don't know if it is 1.02 patch or the PRO itself(doubtly) but this game looks gorgeous now. This is for the people that wait for their consoles still. You are in for a ride.

There is a new patch on console?

people have already posted comparison shots and there's not a huge difference. can you take some pics that show the improvements that you are seeing?

There's a few comparison videos online which would be better. The visuals are noticeably sharper and the fpses are more constant.

so locked 1080p and a more stable FPS. Since the game was dynamic res in the first place, looks like they just essentially enabled the pro hardware to recognize the game without doing anything else, and the extra CPU and GPU power basically did the rest by default.

Its a barebones effort but its functional.
