A tip for people just starting - no matter what weapon you're planning to use, grab the Healing Circle and SP Recovery skills. Easily my most used skills in the game, saved my life multiple times.
Don't expect NPCs to heal you, I was running with a healer for 50 hours and I think she recovered my HP only a handful of times.

How do I switch it off of the 1h sword skill tree?

Edit: Apparently I need to scroll down...

Check the file size. Deluxe stills shows 20.6GB, so should still work.

Checked file size. Bought it. Didn't work. Welp. I'm out $65 and still need to buy the ps4 version. Does playstation do refunds? -_-;

edit- did my one good freebie with sony support and got a refund to wallet.

but yeah, NeOak's thing doesn't work anymore, be careful all -_-;

Just tell them you bought the wrong version. Since they will assist with that as long as you didnt play it yet. But contact support right away with that dont go wasting time.

Do believe they say it can take up to a few days for the $$$ to return to your wallet.

Pretty damn happy with the Collector's Edition, really a nice package. And it came undamaged from Amazon, but then again it was too big to put in a bubble mailer so I'm not giving them any credit haha!

Its pretty interesting that the Western CE came with figures. The JP didnt have that. Pretty cool that they went and translated the NerveGear magazine too. Then again in general seems like the West and Japan have switched positions with figures and whatnots being packed with LEs. As Japan seems to have really cut down on that.

Hollow Fragment must have done pretty well then if BanNam decided to go and make that CE with the figures. Otherwise I cant imagine why they would spend the extra money on getting those made just for the West.

Anyone know how to access the pre-order bonuses in game? God Eater, etc.? I see the swimsuits and wedding dress so far for sale.

From what Ive seen they are supposed to show up in the store also. Try restoring your licenses. Thats one fix people were using when they said the wedding dress for example was not showing up in the store.

Downloaded the PS4 version. I was hoping to get the preorder DLC that was part of the Vita launch bundle, but I'm not sure if it is supposed to show as an extra DLC or is just part of the game.

Haven't started it. So I'll probably ask for a refund If I can't get the DLC -.-

So far:

Rene: Hello, My name is Rene how may I assist you today?
Me: Hello Rene, I am trying to see why I don't have a piece of DLC that is advertised as part of a bundle
Me: The name of the game is SWORD ART ONLINE: Hollow Realization Deluxe Launch Bundle
...
Rene: You cannot find them inside the game?
Me: I have not launched the game, because AFAIK it is a separate DLC
Me: since it was a preorder bonus for the PS4 version
Rene: I see.
Me: but it was included for the Vita
Me: and it is supposed to be a separate DLC item
Rene: And this item is for the PS Vita version or for the PS4 version?
Me: Seems to work for both versions
Rene: I see, then in the Ps4 try restoring licences, in the case that doesn't work you will have to contact with the developer of game which is Bandai, I will provide you with their contact information.
Rene: Bandai America 714-816-9560 www.bandai.com
Me: and for the Vita?
Me: because that is the bundle I bought on the store
Rene: Sadly for the vita there is not an option to restore licences that is why you need to contact the developer of the game for specific help/
Rene: Aside this issue is there any other question today?
Me: No, that is all. I guess I will give it a try first.
Rene: Have a Great Day. Thanks for chatting with us
The agent has ended the chat.

Restoring licences in the PS4 does not show the pre order outfits as a separate DLC. So not sure.

Not much we can do here for you honestly. Since you went and got it from what appears to have been a glitch so not sure how Sony would respond if you keep digging deeper with the issue through them.

Waiting to see if deanote666 finds them or call Bamco. Otherwise I will ask for a refund since it wasn't included despite what the store listing says.

I'm going to end up with the money in the wallet, sadly :(

If I can't get the outfits, I don't mind refunding and waiting for a sale then. Not a big loss tbh. It was an impulse buy due to the glitch.

I just got the dual wield sword skill, I notice as soon as you start dual wielding your weapon skill will switch to dual wield which starts at 0.

Does anyone know if I should bother level the 1 hand sword skill to 500 for the mastery or does it not affect dual wielding?

Jaime (11/9/2016, 9:24:15 AM): Hello, My name is Jaime how may I assist you today?
Me (11/9/2016, 9:24:59 AM): I ordered the SWORD ART ONLINE: Hollow Realization Deluxe Launch Bundle for the PS Vita and didn't receive the voucher for the God eater, maid, nightwear costume pack
Jaime (11/9/2016, 9:26:02 AM): Hello Abe! I’ll be glad to help you and I hope we can meet your needs during this chat. Let me take a quick overview, don’t worry.
Me (11/9/2016, 9:27:25 AM): ok
Jaime (11/9/2016, 9:29:11 AM): And let me tell you that you don't get digital voucher codes for DLC content if you buy games through the PS store.
Jaime (11/9/2016, 9:29:20 AM): We give you instant access
Me (11/9/2016, 9:29:32 AM): It was not in my download list and isn't available in-game
Jaime (11/9/2016, 9:30:37 AM): Have you got in contact with the game developer about how to find the content in game?
Me (11/9/2016, 9:31:22 AM): It was available as a separate voucher in the physical PS4 version so that tells me that it isn't part of the game without being a DLC pack.
Me (11/9/2016, 9:32:38 AM): It was a pre-order bonus for the physical version of the game but you couldn't pre-order the digital vita version and this pack said it was included.
Jaime (11/9/2016, 9:32:52 AM): Abe, I am not saying this content is not included.
Jaime (11/9/2016, 9:33:01 AM): THE DELUXE LAUNCH BUNDLE INCLUDES:
- SWORD ART ONLINE: Hollow Realization (game)
- A special costume pack that consists of:
• Maid costume for female characters
• Nightwear costume for female characters
• GOD EATER Soma costume for male characters
• GOD EATER Livie costume for female characters
- SWORD ART ONLINE: Hollow Realization Season Pass, which includes:
• Three content packs sold separately
• Wedding dress costume for female characters (exclusive to Season Pass)
• White Swimwear costume for female characters (exclusive to Season Pass)
• Navy Swimwear costume for female characters (exclusive to Season Pass)
Jaime (11/9/2016, 9:33:24 AM): Do you know how to find the content in game or were you guessing where to find it?
Me (11/9/2016, 9:33:59 AM): It would be in the in-game armour shop or automatically added to your inventory and it is not there.
Me (11/9/2016, 9:34:29 AM): In the previous game, this costume pack was a separate download
Jaime (11/9/2016, 9:35:34 AM): Do you have your PS4 with you right now?
Jaime (11/9/2016, 9:35:43 AM): Oh my bad, I did not mean PS4.
Jaime (11/9/2016, 9:35:53 AM): I meant Vita.
Me (11/9/2016, 9:35:56 AM): yes
Jaime (11/9/2016, 9:36:55 AM): Perfect, and are we chatting through a PC right now?
Me (11/9/2016, 9:37:09 AM): yes
Jaime (11/9/2016, 9:39:58 AM): Perfect, in that case please log in your PSN account on the following website https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-us/home/games. Once logged in it will display your online ID on the upper-right hand side corner, click on it and then you will get a drop down menu in which you have to choose the option “download list”. Once in your “download list” you will be able to see every entitlement.
Jaime (11/9/2016, 9:40:03 AM): Let me know if you see it.
Me (11/9/2016, 9:42:27 AM): I see the Vita version of the game, white/blue swim, wedding dress. The above mentioned are missing. I'm assuming the season pass is already applied and doesn't show up under this?
Jaime (11/9/2016, 9:43:47 AM): I am sorry I think I got lost with your question Abe, can you re phrase it for me?
Me (11/9/2016, 9:44:53 AM): I see the Vita version of the game, white/blue swim, wedding dress in the download list.
Me (11/9/2016, 9:45:11 AM): I am missing the God eater, maid, nightwear costume pack
Jaime (11/9/2016, 9:45:12 AM): Oh okay, now I get it.
Jaime (11/9/2016, 9:45:36 AM): And I was looking at the game developer
Jaime (11/9/2016, 9:46:04 AM): Looking at the game's developer's website but I could not find anything about this.
Jaime (11/9/2016, 9:46:54 AM): Have you started playing this game so far?
Me (11/9/2016, 9:47:38 AM): North America’s Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization pre-order comes with a DLC pack that offers four costumes. Asuna and all female characters will be able to wear maid or nightwear outfits, after the Exclusive Costume Pack is redeemed
Me (11/9/2016, 9:47:46 AM): http://www.siliconera.com/2016/08/2...zation-pre-orders-include-god-eater-costumes/
Jaime (11/9/2016, 9:50:25 AM): Sir, I do understand, you are still telling me that the content must be included like if I am telling you the content should not be included.

In this situation my best recommendation is to uninstall the game, redownload and reinstall it again.
Jaime (11/9/2016, 9:50:47 AM): And get in contact with the game developer for further instruction about how to find the content in game.
Jaime (11/9/2016, 9:51:06 AM): Of if there are some missing prior getting the DLC content.
Jaime (11/9/2016, 9:51:51 AM): You can contact us back again to request a refund for the game if you are still unable to find the content.
Me (11/9/2016, 9:51:55 AM): I'm saying this content should have been added to my download list after the game purchase. It wasn't added to the download list after purchase.
Jaime: I do understand Abe, and like I am telling you I recommend you to uninstall the game, redownload and reinstall it again.

I received a code from Amazon for pre-ordering the game but I have been unable to redeem the code using my phone. Any chance these haven't been activated yet? I get the standard "This code has already been redeemed or is invalid" message.

This is what I got from Bamco

Thank you for contacting Bandai Namco Entertainment's Technical Support and Warranty Department.

Please provide us the following information as this is the only contact we've received for this and we will need to be escalated internally for further investigation.

- Can you check the PSN Store website to make sure that this content doesn't show up in your Download List at all (https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-us/download/list)?
- If not, can you provide us a screenshot that shows all of the contents that you have available for this game?

**Please note that due to the high number of customer contacts, it is taking longer than our standard 24-48 hour time frame (excluding weekends) to get back to customer contacts. Also, our ticketing system will combine emails to the last email sent (as such if you sent an email the day before and another more recently it would combine them both and push your email out in the queue). Due to this we recommend not sending additional emails as it will simply delay our response time to your original email further.

Regards,

Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc. Customer Support

Submitted screenshots. They show the PS4 version in the download list but at this point, w/e. The email I sent originally had a link to a GameFAQs thread with someone else having this same issue, so I guess that is why I got a faster response? Idk.

I have no idea what SAO is, but this game is pretty damn fun. How early on can I swap weapons?

Also, I made my main a female and the short tutorial was all male voiced. I laughed at that.

Does this game have english VOs?

Is this a big upgrade over the other SAO games?

Game is the most similar to Hollow Fragment as it uses a lot of similar mechanics. Though the largest difference is that this game is more of an action RPG, where as Hollow Fragment went for the more pseudo MMORPG type of approach with combat. Both Hollow Fragment and Lost Song have connections to this title narrative wise as in the time line Hollow Realization takes place after Lost Song. Though playing through the previous games is not required unless you are one of those who are hardcore on knowing everything about a games timeline. For the most part though this game is more focused on being connected to Hollow Fragment in the sense that it takes place in a similar setting along with game mechanics. Where as Lost Song in the game narrative took place in an entirely different game world & setting.

If you were curious about playing a previous game I would suggest Hollow Fragment over Lost Song as outside of the flying mechanic everything else gameplay wise is not too hot.

The main story bits your character will still be represented as Kirito who is the main character for the Sword Art Online story. Which is why there will be sections with your character having a male voice.

You can switch weapons at any time only thing that is required is said weapon to equip.

No.

Yes, it is a sequel to Hollow Fragment, so it builds on that game and engine. Lost Song was made by a different developer on a different engine, so it's separate.

Actually the game has some connection to Lost Song, but its nothing to really worry about as the game does not seem to focus on that too much outside of some narrative bits. Its not as if its so important that one would actually need to play Lost Song. As stated above timeline wise this takes place after Lost Song.

Pro tip: there is a Kirito voice option you can turn off so your character doesn't use kiritos voice in cutscenes it will be silent.

But you can make more jokes if you leave it on if you make the avatar female. Especially since it has the same face by default.

Combat in this game is...Confusing. There's a LOT going on and I have no idea how to parse it. I'm also not quite used to dodging and parrying yet - I keep trying to slide out of the way after an enemy starts up it's attack, but by the time the game lets me dodge, it's too late. Also Switch and Skill Chains are confusing. Oh and L1+O to encourage/reinforce behaviors? :|

But at least its fun to run around and kill shit for goodies. Oh and it's gotten me to start watching SAO, so there's that!

The parrying the window is quite small so you will literally have to go by timing and not the actual effect of the parry itself. In other words dont expect to parry just because that "barrier" looking effect is up. As the actual parry window ends before the effect completely vanishes.

You will have to be careful too as not all attacks can be parried and some will literally just break through the parry itself even if successful.

As there is no set timing to teach you, you will have to basically just do trial and error as all enemies their attack animation / collision are different.

For the praising stuff basically its praised actions are raised in the NPCs stats. Those stats dictate bonuses and general actions they perform in battle. Though honestly with how stupid the AI is in this game honestly Id say dont worry about it too much. But praising regardless will net you 50 SP for each succesful praise after the NPC performs an action. You will see an icon next to their name which represents what type of trait you will be praising. You can see their stat with the traingle button I think? Forgot as its been a bit since Ive played due to being a bit busy. But go check that in town and not outside in the field.

This game with dodging you have to be careful as you cant use dodge to cancel out of a move. So basically if you are in the middle of an attack animation for example you have to wait till it ends before you can use dodge. But if you are in a neutral position you should be able to dodge instantly in most cases.

Switch is basically you switch places with one of the NPCs in your party, which all it does is switch the hate directed towards your character (enemy attention) to the character you switched with. Its a good way to get a bit of breathing space when you need to heal or recast buffs.

Skill Chains is when a party members sword skill and yours chain together causing extra damage to occur.

Then there is the OSS Original Sword Skill system, which is chaining together sword skills to multiply your damage. This is something important to learn as a lot of the time your dumbass AI partners will be dead when facing off against stronger enemies that you will be fighting either for exp or treasure. (Mostly treasure that they are guarding)

Also if you see sword skills with (Super Armor) in the description it means that you cant be interrupted while in the attack animation. Unlike most of the normal sword skills.

Not only you can't be interrupted, but you don't take damage when performing the attack. You have to remember that the beginning animation for those skills (raising a shining sword in front of character's face etc.) don't have super armor.

Edit:
As mentioned on the next page, this is just an effect of the final 2HS skill, not the Super Armor in general.

Bandai Namco seriously must not have given out review codes or something as after a quick google glance no new English reviews yet.

Thats not correct, you will take damage during Super Armor skills. Hyper Armor is the separate skill that actually cancels damage.

Thanks for the tips Parakeetman! The fact that you can't dodge cancel is good to know. That got me in trouble last night against those dumb crabs you fight when you leave the city for the fist time.

Do I have any control over who I Switch with? It seems to be random, but I may just not understand it. Does switching allow me to get special bonuses or extra damage in? It sounded like you could do that to get extra stun or multipliers, but the tutorial didn't really explain it too well.

Regarding Skill Chains and OSS, how do I actually chain things together? I had it happen a few times yesterday and it definitely did a bunch more damage. It was awesome. Buuut I was not sure how I got it to work. I am using Axe right now, so I would combo and use my Sword Skill (Bash or whatever you start with), and sometimes it would go all SKILL CHAIN and the enemy would basically drop from full to nothing.

Speaking of Skills, the L1+△ default control is something about skill chains or whatever. Does that just entice my party to start using skills like mad to try and trigger chains? I noticed things like Chain 2 appearing over my head at some points. :|

Regarding weapons, I took the advice of Hasemo and took the SP Regen and HP Regen skills right away. Are certain skills locked to certain weapons? I suspect yes - I shouldn't be able to use some sort of Rapier multi-poke skill with my huge axe, but it's worth asking. I assume you can learn all the skills eventually, too?

Sorry for the newbie questions - the mechanics and systems in place are cool but confusing!

So, as somebody who hasn't watched SAO, can I get an explanation for why a long established couple needs to "raise affinity" to hold hands?

Sorry, but it is correct, at least for the 2HS and the last attack in the skill tree. You're denying it, but that's how I destroyed most of HNMs/NMs I fought in the second half of the game. Attacking through their AoEs, the orange shield effect flashing when they hit me and they get stunned, because the ultimate 2HS sword skill is really long with multiple hits. Maybe it's just that special attack? Who knows, its description just states Super Armor, as you can see in that video. I don't think I've tried it with shorter sword skills.

I even recorded a short video where you can see Agil getting hit and me just powering through.

Hyper armor is just temporary invincibility, a completely different thing.

Edit:

It's just the game and has nothing to do with the anime.

However, watching at least the first season of the anime will enlighten you a lot about the characters and the relationships involved.

About the switch option, select the one you want to switch with, with dpad up/down, there's an arrow showing who's selected on the left of the party list.

Purple is like the edge. You don't want to stay blue because it may kick you out of the interaction. However, if you power through while their dialogue is still popping up, you can just go straight to the kiss.
