Final Fantasy XV Judgment Disc Demo Has PS4 Pro Enhancements @ 1080p

So this was spotted earlier in the FFXV demo thread but I think this warrants its own thread. It is important to point out that the difference as seen here is without any official patch for the Pro version. This can be confirmed by checking the resolution on PS4 Pro, which runs at 1080p.

So FFXV demo allows the user to run at two different modes. First is called Lightweight mode which runs at an uncapped frame rate at 1080p. The other is high quality mode that renders at 1080p with visual enhancements.

There are a few GIF comparisons below, and then closeups to show the improvements. Despite being rendered at 1080p, the AA has been improved while AF difference is HUGE. Image credit goes to fellow GAF members Slaythe and Venom Fox.

Here is what is confirmed for the PS4 Pro when it comes to FFXV.

1. 1080p @ targeting 60 fps with visual enhancements - currently it can run at 40-50 fps but a patch in December will improve it further.
2. 4K rendering using upscaling. This will result in supesampling on 1080p TV.

Note: HDR is confirmed for all platforms including Xbox One S and the standard PS4.

The difference in motion is a lot better as well. Lot less pop in etc. The lighting changes are really subtle in places and very noticeable in others. Pro mode certainly has advantages.

Yup that does look better. Good on them. Original looks fine too.
Note that this is a comparison of 2 Pro modes and not OG to Pro. We will have to wait for some comparisons.

Good stuff.

I hope they keep working on this engine for future games, given the great results despite the sub-par CPUs in these consoles.

Not bad...not bad at all...

So we can expect in the base game, extreme image quality via downsampling for 1080p users or higher resolutions for 4K users. 1080p modes would include graphical tweaks by default and there would also be a higher FPS mode as well...

So by default Pro users get better IQ than the 900p to 1080p base PS4 game, and 720p to 900p XB1 game.

Nice enhancements.

Better AF being only for the high quality 30fps pro mode is definitely something worth reviving that AF thread for. You can't just attribute bad AF in the original version to devs not caring when they actually add it for the PS4 Pro. If the console had no issues dealing with it, it would be available for everyone.

Any vs base PS4 comparison? Is the AF as abysmal as the Lightweight one on base PS4?

Wow nights and days: from Anisotropic filtering to textures to AA to lighting (I noticed lighshafts on top of the garage in the PS4 PRO version and the tower is better lit) to LOD and draw distances (better vegetation) and shadows and AO etc... without forgetting HDR and better framerates and maybe more stuff in the December update.
And this not even the PS4 PRO dedicated version that Square Enix promised to make in the future that takes full advantage of the PS4 PRO capabilities.

Is the uncapped mode in the final version as well? It'd be fun to play around with, although RPGs are one of the genres that still work pretty well at 30fps.

Base PS4:
I am not joking. I thought these were from the PS4 Pro supersampled mode.

Yes. PS4 Pro support will be officially added in the day 1 patch and then they will improve it further in December update, that mainly aims to stabilize the 60 fps on PS4 Pro.

Do we know whether or not pop-in distance for shadows have been improved in HQ mode? That is only the major gripe I have with the OG version.

Improved visuals and performance on base PS4, even better on PS Pro and gameplay feedback looking very positive too. This game is going to actually make everyone eat crow.

Tabata-san our new overlord confirmed?

The visual enhancements mean nothing to me, but if they could get it to run at a solid 60 fps I might buy a PS4 pro.

If anything, I now have a great deal of admiration for the engine they're using.

It seems to be heavily GPU focused if they're able to pull off ~60fps in such a gorgeous open-world game.

I hope every Final Fantasy game uses this engine going forward.

Are people ever going to stop bitching about 60fps. Its getting mundane to read posts of people saying 60 fps or bust. No one cares. Either enjoy the game for what it has or move on and stop pestering. if visual enhancements mean nothing to you then you wont have a 4k tv or a PS4. Play Nintendo games or stick man on the internet. Most of them run at 60.

So if I read this right the 1080p version will be uncapped and have additional graphical improvements and the 4k version will have just 4k and Hdr? If thats the cause I will gladly play at 1080p with better foliage/mesh and uncapped fps trying to stay above 30fps. But then again I will have to see just how great 4K hdr image at 30 looks.

What a stupid post.

FF15 isn't on NES. New games aren't. You don't have to care about graphics if you want to play new games. And posting about wanting 60fps is just as relevant as splooging over these screens.

OG one looks okay.

I'm okay with it.

Knowing it will be 30 FPS stable throughout will be great! (anyone tried it?)

Obviously FF15 isnt on Nes, never claimed it was. Just tired of hearing people bitch about 60 fps and saying they wont get this or that if it isnt. 60 fps is nice but for an RPG it doesn't need it. And complaining about it on a weak console is just pointless. They are not as strong as PC's. Simple as that. In every forum you find people who act like its the end of the world that its not 60 fps.

Well its not. Either get over it or stop bitching.

Nope.

The framerate is going to decide whether or not I'm getting a Pro. If it still looks like a slideshow but just better, then it's not worth it.

I understand that and agree that it wouldn't really be worth a pro upgrade, my comment was more aimed towards those who are just complaining the game inst 60 fps. I may have taken what was said out of context.

An Action-based RPG absolutely should have it.

But...I mean...they're trying to get there. And obviously they're trying to do that because people requested it, so they think it's worthwhile.

So really, just take your own advice, because it IS important in an action RPG (and any game), and SE has taken notice probably because of people saying they wanted it.

For me, framerate vs graphic quality has always depended on the game. I really need to play this because the graphic updates are kind of making my mouth water but after playing with the modes in First Light last night, I'm kind of on a framerate hype. I'm so torn on this one.

Wait, so if I'm playing on a 4k tv, will I have the option of playing at 1080/60fps?

Doesn't seem like any game lets me select a resolution. But I admit to not looking too deeply into the system settings yet.

That'll probably be an option whenever that patch comes out.
