I found a vagina in Watch Dogs 2 and Sony suspended me (Update: Ban lifted)

Since Sony is the one doing the banning, I don't think developers have a single say in this, other than speaking out on social media, which is what anyone can do.

Tonight I will be mainly hunting hookers in alleyways just so I can get raw snapshots with my mobile phone to email my gran......

I may also have a game of Watch Dogs 2, if I have time.

I didn't realize that so many people are obsessed with necrophilia.

imo, Sony did the right thing, stuff like that must be banned. Just because you can doesn't mean you should – any adult person should realize this.

Is this a joke?

Ubisoft made this and Sony is selling it.
How is the OP to blame?

Sharing content from their game is getting their customers banned from online service. I think there is issue to be addressed.

Not really, Sony made the decision to ban people for it and Sony as well as ESRB made the decision to allow the game to be M rated when having nudity.

Either they talk with Sony or they remove those assets.

There's nothing to address as far as they're concern. Or do you want them to apologise ?

but what i don't get is that showing in game nudity via the share options is banable, but sharing extreme violence isn't?

Surely if it is in this wierd world, then share should be disabled for the game if they are so worried?

It's subjective, really. I could see a lot of parents not caring about their kids seeing computer generated violence, but nudity is different. Yes, I realize that's also computer generated nudity, but if you think for one second that there isn't a difference to the mind of a parent, think again. The logic may not completely be there and I'm not saying it is, but it's the human mind.

Biology gave me private parts & technology the means to document and share them. Clearly it's my ISPs responsibility to make sure I'm not a total asshat and actually do that, because everything should have training wheels and I don't understand morality!

The number of people here not even attempting to understand what the OP did is mind-blowing.

He didn't just post it to his twitter, he posted it to his public shared PSN feed.

Sony don't moderate twitter, they moderate their own service.

Did you see the image? Look, if there was some decent reason for it, some context, fine. It's there to be sleazy and nothing more.

It seems totally reasonable. It's a completely realistic detail.

That said, it's the sort of gritty detail that would be more at home in GTA, rather than a more upbeat open world like WD2's. I haven't played it yet so maybe it's grimmer than I expect.

Isn't it more like a side effect though? Like you don't necessarily intend to do that, the PS4 just does it?

You shouldn't ban people for posting game footage you approve and make money from.

It's not OP's fault if Sony doesn't have content warning/restriction to prevent situation like this.

They are addressing the issue if they get into talks with Sony over this and broker out solution. Even if those talks aren't made public through e.g. press release. Only way for them not to address this is to go "Oh, okay. What ever" and do absolutely nothing.

We get it. The point is that sharing content from M-rated games shouldn't be visible to users that don't meet the age requirements, or have parental control activated. There shouldn't have been any manual moderation, because it's not user-created content. It's from a licenced, greenlighted, rated game.

no doubt it's sleazy, however, I'm not sure how they would build in a content sharing block at that very moment. I'm sure it can be done, but it's probably not worth the devs time since any reprocussions would only be on the user and not the dev. Now, if it was a rated "T" or "E" game and this happened, then there would be hell to pay.

It seems totally reasonable. It's a completely realistic detail.

It's literally a woman lying on the ground with her legs spread open and they obviously decided against her wearing pants or underwear because they thought it would be edgy.

Realistic details are great, but this is pretty deliberate. It's there to be there.

Nah I totally see the logic behind that. What I'm failing to see is a solid reason to be there in the first place.

When you buy Watch Dogs 2 it doesn't automatically post closeup pictures of genitalia to PSN and twitter.

Your argument is like saying you can tell people to fuck off in a PSN message because you hear it all the time in the games you play on the same console.

Well , they kinda do.

It's an adult service if you're playing violent vidya , not so much if you share girly parts.

Why does it matter where he posted it? Ubisoft made it and Sony are fine with selling the game to people, but when people share images from the game they're banned.

Remove the image, filter the images to other users below 18, don't allow things in the game that may offend people if it's that much of a problem. Don't punish the user for using the tools that they supply to share images of games that they sell.

No, it's not. The game has an M rating, meaning mature. Its content is not for everyone. I'm glad that there are games with mature content. That doesn't mean I'd subject children to it.

Note that if you use your PlayStation camera to broadcast your penis, they'll ban you, too.
Exactly my point. The game has a M mature then don't show shares from that game to children.

It's their burden to make sure people who don't want to get exposed to that kind of content doesn't, not the person sharing a picture from a game allowed to a close platform.

Broadcasting nudity using your camera I would be ok in being bannable, but even then it's a bit extreme when plenty of other social media has been dealing with that without banning users. A simple way for the poster or any viewer to mark the content as adult would suffice for instance.

The issue isn't that the game has nudity in it. That's got nothing to do with it. It's that nudity was shared in a public social feed on the system. OP may not have realized it happened when he posted it to Twitter using the share function of the system, and it sucks he was banned instead of warned.

Sex/nudity is against the TOS for posting on PSN. The lesson is don't post videos/screenshots with nudity in them to Twitter/Facebook/YouTube via the share function of the PS4, since that also shares it to public social feeds on PS4.

I see you're trying to minimize it by saying the sequel is more upbeat but that's still silly. If you can expect this to be in GTA then it's fine to be here as well.

Is that something the OP could have chosen not to do or does that happen when you share, regardless?

IDK how PS4 sharing works.

Nah I totally see the logic behind that. What I'm failing to see is a solid reason to be there in the first place.

You're describing the context of the image, not of that character's model. That character's model is evidently based on "realistic prostitute". The developers designed her based on that remit as they saw fit. Someone in this thread has already attested that crotchless knickers are something prostitutes really wear.

The player happened to blow over a hooker, position the camera that way, and snap a pic.

Also this is far from being the only nudity in the game, male or female, sleazy or not.

This ^. If the game is rated Mature then any shares from that game should also be considered Mature by default. How is this OP's fault at all?

This sounds regressive in the extreme.

No, that's verbal abuse, not at all the same.

Would you be ok if Sony were banning people for screenshotting the "shame" scene in GOT when they're selling it to you?

If you don't want people seeing the thing you sell you put restriction on it, plain and simple.

Update:

I got an email 30 minutes ago telling me that my ban is now 1 month because of a violation today. Bare in mind that I was banned yesterday and have not been able to make any new uploads since the ban and the only thing I'd uploaded in months was the single image this thread is about.

I'm really disappointed right now.

Okay now this is crossing a line. Could you actually post screen shots of the actual messages with any sensitive data erased?

Either way, I find it classless. I don't see why there needs to be leg-spread prostitutes laying around in this game. And Ubisoft has a history of being "edgy" right down to their E3 conferences so I'm just having a hard time thinking that there's any real reason other than "because we can." I get that people aren't going to agree, but that's just how I see it.

Minor alteration :p

So complaining about Sony on GAF is now ban worthy? Fuck them. Fully clothed, of course, don't want them to get mad.

Yes this thing is beyond fucked up. The game is sold by Sony. The game was authorized to use their services. Then you should not get banned for sharing content from said game. Create filters for children, whatever you have to do. But to ban a user for doing nothing wrong is such bullshit.

This has gone from being dicks and Sony are straight up being complete and total assholes about this. Think I shall not be buying future Sony products if this is how they're going to treat their customers.

There is the question of whether restricted accounts can still see shared content from M rated games.

Regardless, it's still against the TOS, even if they can't.
The tos is stupid that's what I'm saying.

That's like putting the burden of taking control over what's shared on the user playing a game released on a closed platform, when in fact they are the last who should be hold accountable.

Either the system should block sharing pictures from M rated games, or a way to people to block mature content from their feeds (and honestly, the burden should fall first on people who don't want to see this content or don't want their children to see it to configure their accounts to hide this content).

Any way, there's plenty of already established tools to solve this other than banning the user for using a system feature on a game allowed on the platform.

IDK how PS4 sharing works.

There are multiple levels of the Share functionality of the system. You use the Share button to record videos and take screenshots, which then reside on the HDD. You can then transfer these to a USB drive and put them on your computer and do whatever you want with them.

However, you can also link your PSN to your social media accounts like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, and then use the Share function to share your videos or screenshots directly to those sites, or livestream via Twitch, through PSN. When you do this, it also makes a post to the What's New section of the PS4 menu that you have shared a video/screenshot or are broadcasting live, which is a public feed viewable by your friends/followers. I think it may also have a chance of showing up in the given games overview section, which is presumably viewable to anyone. This is the problem the OP encountered, it seems like, since he shared the screenshot with nudity through the system infrastructure which posted it to that public What's New feed.

I don't think the onus should be on the user to filter images based on what may or may not offend someone. If the content is that offensive in the first place, remove it. If it's only offensive to some, allow the option to mark it as such.

I can't help but feel like people are fine being treated like children. These aren't consoles aimed at babies and if the images end up on Twitter and Facebook then that's for Twitter or Facebook to decide if it should be deleted or not.

I realise this isn't the case but I'm putting across my opinion on how it should work so that people aren't unfairly punished.

Does it need a big reason to be there? The game also has people pissing in an alley with their dicks out.

So if someone was streaming this game and they came across a vagina would they be suspended too?
Good question. Isn't twitch forbidding nudity? What happens when you enter a stripclub in GTAV while streaming?

It's the same in as much it's obviously going to offend others.
.

Telling people to fuck off is targeting and verbally abusing specific people.

Sharing a picture of a M rated game through usual means for no one in particular is different.

I don't watch Game of Thrones but if it's something that's obviously going to offend others in a public place, yes

Violence isn't going to offend others in a public place?

Because I don't recall BF1/COD/AC/FC/TF and hundreds of other games being censored.

The Baby in P.T wasn't going to offend people? Yet the game was specifically designed to be played with others.

Naked Norman Reedus in the Death Stranding trailer at E3 (broadcasted by Sony themselves throughout the world) is ok?

If streaming through PS4's build-in streaming system, most likely. Banned by Sony.

If using capture card like most pro streamers do, bypassing consoles build-in streaming system, I doubt it. Twitch is okay with in-game nudity as long it isn't main focus of the game and streamer doesn't intentionally seek it out and keep streaming it for prolonged amounts of time.

Then the blame falls squarely on Sony's shoulders. The game is rated Mature, why would they automatically post Mature content to a publicly accessible feed (What's New, Game Overview)?

That is negligent programming plain and simple, and Sony's responsibility, plain and simple.

So if someone was streaming this game and they came across a vagina would they be suspended too?

Yes, if they linked their PSN to Twitch and were streaming through the Twitch functionality on PS4 then the instant that a Penis, Vagina, or female Breasts appeared on the screen they would be bannable according to these policies.

Is this the birth of a new movement, where PSN users share nudity from M-rated games on PSN en masse to force Sony to review their policies?

Yes, it's more likely to offend and embarrass multiple people.

Do you have any proof of people reporting an extreme closeup of one of these offensive things and it not being acted upon?

Sony didn't broadcast this publicly, you choose to watch the stream. If someone in a shop shows the stream, they're responsible if it offends somebody in their shop.

extending the ban to a month because he dared to talk about it is fucking childish.

Considering how easy it apparently is to get blacklisted from receiving review copies as gaming journalist I'm not that surprised. Industry sounds very childish and petty in some of its practices.
