I'll probably pick up switch version just for the sake of HDTV battles. That being said, I'm surprised people are actually going to wait till whatever point a whole year from now to play the game. Just go ahead now with hardware you have. Why wait for something that may be pushed back even more?

My excuse is that I got a backlog of games to finish anyway

I like Pokémon games but they all have the same rhythm that gets exhausting after a while. I play one Pokémon game and then I'm good for three years or so. I already have Moon so I'll skip the Switch version.

You can say that without seeing a single image of the Switch version? That must be a damn good crystal ball you have there :-D

With a march launch, Nintendo couldn't really have a presentation now. People are ramping up for Christmas and it'd just get lost and forgotten in the noise. Far better to remind people early in the new year and then build towards launch.

It doesn't matter how much better it will look, it will be the same rhythm again and it won't be too different from Sun/Moon. Expecting anything other than that is just unrealistic.

Idk why people wouldn't double dip. The 3rd versions were never straightforward ports they usually added a lot of stuff. In black and whites case they just decided to make another game with the same geometry but different story. "Preorder canceled" seems really reactionary.
This would be true if we were getting Sun2/Moon2. But we're getting a third version, and those are better than the originals. Emerald made RS obsolete, Platinum made DP obsolete, and Stars will make S/M obsolete. That's why it's better to wait and experience the game fresh in it's best form.

Regarding this whole discussion about Nintendo being pissed and Nintendo ninjas losing their power, it's all due to Nintendo trying to have their cake and eating it. Never before there such a short time before a reveal event and launch for their gaming devices. It's easy to keep everything under control when the launch is far away and the information is available only to few people. It's impossible to do that when due to logistic reasons more and more people need to have access to the information in order to prepare for the launch.

We know now that the reason for Nintendo's reveal schedule, including pushing the reveal to January, is Pokemon and trying to eat the 3ds cake and still have the same cake for Switch. But this could have been done differently. They could have had the reveal event and not show Pokemon yet. Or they could have done themselves this slow reveal of info, like every two weeks to show some small tidbit about Switch, like they did with Pokemon itself.

One can't realistically expect to keep this secrecy 4 months before launch, not in this age, when consoles are reviewed before even being announced, when games leak years before launching and so.

I don't see this game being revealed in January, unless it's some sort of mention that there will be a game out later in the year and that's it. Even that's uncertain, since it seems way too soon after Sun/Moon's release. TPC does what it wants as well and probably wants all the attention on them for an official reveal.

Something interesting is that looks like Lycanroc has a placeholder image for another form on the Global Link? It could mean nothing and the only other Pokemon with unexplained placeholders are Raticate and Mimikyu.

Even so, there's no way Nintendo doesn't officially announce there will be a Pokemon game coming to Switch prior to March.

FWIW I've been told by someone I trust that their PR department has a complete meltdown over the EG/LPVG leaks

I thought this was the point of the switch. Isn't everyone pretty certain that MonHun___ is coming right around launch as well? Glad to see it somewhat confirmed. It will definitely be more successful than Wii U at this rate.

"But Nintendo said it was a home console first and foremost!"

Would most likely double dip on this. Haven't bought a third version since Platinum which was certainly worth it IMO. That was also the most recent third version which seems pretty crazy since it was a long time ago, if you don't count BW2.

Wonder if Pokemon Bank can be accessed on a 3DS and Switch or if it will be locked to one system at a time.

It's not like there were not warned by the leaks happened already in the summer. I think this shows naivety from their part. When you already had a lot of things leaked months ago to expect to be able to keep secrecy on most of the things until 2 months before launch is very strange.

This is great news. It is also an interesting look at how Nintendo might be looking to port handheld projects as they appear to be doing with WiiU titles. I'm so pumped to play this on Switch I think I'll hold off getting the 3DS version

They didn't really have a choice. They don't want to burn their holiday sales so they had to plan the press conference after the end of the year.

I don't think the Pokémon sales will be affected by this news, as everyone already owns a 3DS so they'll buy on it, but still.

You always have choices. With associated risks and negatives. This choice didn't work as they expected. And it was very probable for this to happen.

After month of Neoxon saying "It's not happening" on the NX speculation threads, It's nice to see that I was right :p
Game Freak was pretty shitty when dealing with the 3DS. I guess the excuse of being Backwards Compatible let them make 2 Pokemon games pretty close to 3DS's launch (I think Black/White was a month before 3DS's launch and B/W2 was a year after) despite the 3DS struggling.
A Big new Zelda, Mario, Pokemon, DQXI, and more targeting year one seems like a pretty amazing line up.

Yeah Neoxon goes around making proclamations about what can and can't happen with no basis. In this particular case I'm glad to see he was wrong. This game could be excellent on the switch.

As they should.

They have to get rid of whoever leaked their Switch information. These leaks are damaging.

Damaging? Hardly.

The vast majority of Pokémon fans are going to buy the game in the first three months, and then double dip on the third version no matter what form it takes.

At the very least, knowing that the lineup from Nintendo will be packed for the first 6 months (Mario, Zelda, Pokémon, Smash, Kart, and Splatoon will be spread out over 2017) at least gives a reason to think the console won't be a flop.

Yeah but remember we've had more remakes, and BW2 was an alternative to third versions.

It's really interesting to see what they are doing with Sun/Moon. But I'm surprised too. After Gen 6 was so short, Gen 7 will be on its 3rd version within a year!

Wonder if they'll release D/P remakes the year after.

But this game is 1 years away

If 0.5% of the 10 million copies shipped at launch are not bought because of this news (and just sample how many in this thread have canceled their orders), then that's 500,000 lost sales.

It causes damage.

Sorry but y'all waiting a year just seems dumb.
Depends on the circumstances. Pokemon isn't a must play for me right now. My backlog is ridiculous and I'm cutting down on buying new games that I'm not really super hyped for. I also seem to have developed a dislike of playing on the 3DS screen (the size).
