Eurogamer: Nintendo Switch to get Pokémon Sun and Moon third version: Pokemon Stars

If in the January event they will show just the launch games and the first 3 months or so the backfire will be spectacular.

Nintendo has to fight against an image that they made for themselves. Them going "Here are 6 games and we will show more games in the next Direct." will be immediately translated into "There will be droughts". I don't even want to imagine what the media titles would be if they do that.

I think you don't understand what expectations are set when you organise a live event like this. Just look at the lukewarm reception of the PS4 Pro event.
There is 0% chance this game is revealed in January. Pokemon S/M won't even be two months old by then. Come on now. Some things are just common sense.

People really underestimate how much the Switch needs to sell the image of being a portable even though the battery life will not help support the concept much.

A Pokemon title goes a long way towards selling that idea of this being the next Nintendo portable. This is a handheld so people will give it a pass when the specs do not even challenge the base Xbox One. People will just say this is a very powerful handheld so who cares if it cannot do 4K. 720p on the go his a huge leap from 3DS/vita.

The Switch is dead in the water without selling the handheld portability factor so holding back the Pokemon title and not taking about it day one would be a stupid move Imo.

Traditional handheld titles like Monster Hunter and Pokemon will help the hybrid image. People will forgive the low specs for 720p HD Pokemon on the go. And to know you can still dock that puppy for 1080p real Pokemon RPG on your TV is a good sell.

Pokemon Stars is the most important game that will define the path of this platform.
What this title adds to Sun/Moon will shape how people feel about the Switch as a platform.

Technically if the account system is like on Wii U, you could make 3 different accounts on your console, with each have its own save.
I remember on the Wii U some games would have save data that could be accessed by all users on the system (I'm not sure if it was just things like leaderboard or if everyone get the same file select screen). Still how Switch saves is going to be interesting to see. Will carts also save to internal memory (would make sense from a security standpoint, look at how many attack vectors 3DS has had from edited cart saves, yes unlike the Wii you had to have a compromised 3DS to set these up) or is it only digital that could benefit from each user having a separate save.

I just hope Nintendo isn't in dope mode and goes "it's a handheld so only one user per Switch hardware".

Speaking of which though, is Nintendo really going to keep remaking the games in order? A 3D remake of Red/Blue seems like a much better idea.

If I may ask, why? Sun/Moon are doing a great job of capitalizing on the Go hype, which is long since dead & will soon be not limited to Gen 1.

Game Freak does what Game Freak wants to do and not Nintendo and beside the next game on the remake list is the Sinnoh remake, which I can see happening during gen 7 on the Switch.

How is a Gen 1 remake a better idea? What would it accomplish? Red and Blue were definitely incredible for the time they were produced, but compared to the newer games, they're sorely lacking. It's a small region, the games are sorely lacking in plot, and completely revamping the game/story/region from the ground up would either completely change the game to the point that it is no longer a remake or just upset people who are fans of the originals. Even in the original remakes, new Pokemon are only available in small post game areas. There have been more than 400 new Pokemon since then. Do you include new Pokemon and completely change the distribution of the original, thereby pissing off the nostalgic Gen 1 fans, or only include the original 151 in the main portion of the game, pissing off everybody who has actually kept up with the series and likes the new Pokemon? I really can't think of any good reason for a R/B remake that isn't based entirely on the nostalgia tinted premise the Gen 1 was the best and everything after it isn't as good.

Since we officially don´t know anything about the switch version I think it is uncommon to know if I want something or not. If others are able to say so without knowing anything at all that is fine of course.

People are declaring games they've not played at all game of the year based on little to nothing, or all the people hyped for the few seconds they saw of a new Mario Switch game. It's fine to go in the opposite direction as well, and a 3rd version of sin/moon would be one of the most easily predictable games in existence even if you don't actually know anything for certain.

Is it just me, or are some of the PokéTubers ignoring this? The likes of Shofu, Jwittz, Tamasii, & Omni (who recently became a PokéTuber) haven't reacted to this leak at all (I'm mainly looking at their Twitter accounts).

Jwittz makes sense; he's worked with Nintendo directly before and I doubt he'd want to sour that relationship by reporting on these rumours.

Probably is the same reactions some had here. they're crying because Nintendo is hurt right now and they care more about some lost sales than the fact that there will be a Pokemon in the first year on the new Nintendo console!

Fair enough, but what about the other 3? Shofu has definitely reported on rumors before (Ex: The leaked images for Decidueye, Incineroar, & Primarina).

I'm more excited that it's a 3rd version and on a machine with a good amount of power. Sun/Moon are really close to besting most of the series in terms of quality. So a version that cleans up the technical issues with the game and tightens up the content load comparable to BW2, Emerald and Platinum is probably going to be my GOTY alongside P5.

Probably too busy making click bait contents as well as doing let's play of Sun and Moon.

Tough to be honest this news isn't enough to pad out a video length where they can spout crazy nonsense theory.

Couldn't you say the same for GameXplain?

GameXplain tend to report leaks after they have been published by someone else even when they know about the leaks before hand they will tease it but will not openly discuss it until a major site drops a news story

I find their loyalty to NOA annoying

For Shofu it seems like they gave him an early copy and he probably had follow a NDA. Before then everything he covered were only rumors that could have been fake. Covering the datamine of the entire game may have broken aomething from the agreement. Though I'm just guessing.

So how do you guys think theyre gonna go about with the single screen for switch in regards to menus and map and all that?

The most notable thing that'l probably be affected is the Rotom Dex's dialogue and the Battle UI, but that can easily be put on the screen. They might remove the minimap from the bottom. One of the select buttons will have to open up the menu to get to the features. It's not too terrible a transition, but I am curious as to how the battle UI will look.

If it were about loyalty, wouldn't they ignore the leaks entirely like the person saying the PokeTubers are?

Yeah battle are gonna take a major hit due to the series regressing back to a single screen.

In terms of functionality or appearance? The latter I could see, the former should be fine--especially when playing on the touchscreen (assuming they use it...and assuming it has a touchscreen)

Didn't Sun/Moon already cut down on the use of the second screen compared to other DS & 3DS Pokémon games?

It still uses it for the battle menu though and without the second screen it's gonna get in the way of the battle, which is a shame as Pokémon really benefited from the second screen.

I said loyal, not stupid.

They put up a separate discussion video for every reported leak item speak about it for 20-30 minutes get their views which is pretty good business for a Nintendo focused youtuber

Give the Pokemon-tubers a little time to catch up to the new leaks the game just came out so they have Let's Plays to focus on and finding secrets first those channels will be busy for a while

I can't imagine Satoshi Taijiri being happy that the next Pokémon game will have to be on a hybrid.
Especially when said hybrid is basically a tablet in size.

I wonder if they kept any Aloan forms for this game. Didn't a rumor say we were gonna get a water arcanine and fighting Abra.....

Makes sense That future Pokémon games will release on Switch was obvious anyway.

But I fear the person who leaked this to the media will get in some serious trouble. I will never understand why some insider leak such banal things anyway, unless they want to hurt a company.

Eh, guess I got the trailers wrong but don't they have exclusive plots and exclusive Pokemons during the day and night for Sun/Moon?

there are exclusive pokemon yes. The difference between Sun/Moon is that in Moon the time is 12 hours ahead, so if you play during your day hours is will be night. Also plots are almost identical.

kinda tempted to find a good Let's Play to watch but if the story is going to be the same for Stars I should avoid knowing too much

I would when it was intuitive & kept clutter down for the top screen.

If every other turn-based RPG not on the DS/3DS can handle having menus and battles on the same screen without feeling cluttered, I don't see any reason Pokémon can't. Persona 4 Golden is one of the least cluttered RPGs I've ever played and it handled having menus and battles on one small 5 in. screen just fine.
