Blizzard working on a new First Person game

Blizzard put up two job postings under the "UNANNOUNCED GAMES/PROJECTS" section of their website.

To be clear, this is separate from all the jobs about Diablo 4.

Their jobs usually list which franchise the game is about (even for unannounced projects, like Hearthstone's had "Deep Knowledge of Warcraft") if it's in an existing IP, so it's plausibly in a new IP. They may have just decided to be less obvious though.

Job 1: http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/company/careers/posting.html?id=160013G

LEAD SOFTWARE ENGINEER, ENGINE

Blizzard Entertainment is seeking an experienced tools engineer to work on an unannounced project that utilizes a robust first-person engine. The ideal applicant has demonstrated ability to lead a team of engineers to success, has a vision for how tools should be built, and has an unwavering passion for developing content creation tools.

PLUSES
Previous experience working on first-person or other action-oriented games.

Job 2: http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/company/careers/posting.html?id=160013F

LEAD SOFTWARE ENGINEER, TOOLS

It's the same quote from above.

Edit 3:

A third job has went up that asks to animate a wide variety of characters and creatures. A wide variety of "creatures" suggests it's probably not Overwatch, but the rest of the IPs seem plausible.

Well, I guess the guy in charge of Blizzard's new game division was there when StarCraft: Ghost was being developed, though I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Isn't it too fast for a new IP?

They explicitly hired back one of their cofounders to lead a division dedicated to making new games (be they in existing or new IPs), and he said we'd see if it was a good idea within two years (which was probably a rough estimate of when they'd like to be able to show the projects he started 6 or so months back).

Interesting. A lot of people are probably thinking another shooter but I wonder if it's going to be more a first person RPG ala Elder Scrolls / Fallout

The inevitable sequel to Overwatch, aptly named Overwaifu. It'll be the same but with a key difference:
Capture the Flag mode, what else did you think I mean? ;P

I think that there's just enough there for most Overwatch characters that they could reasonably put together a single player campaign. Widowmaker with all the good stuff from Sniper Elite. Reaper in a Doom 2016 style game. Deus Ex: Sombra Revolution.

I'm still confused at how they were unable to make a fps mmo out of Overwatch. All the pieces are there, the lore, characters, smooth gunplay. It literally is made for it.

It was originally seven different gameplay modes taped together, but they canned all of them except what Overwatch is (though obviously it changed a fair deal).

You, for example, also lived the day life of the superheroes, doing things like running a bakery.

An Overwatch SP game would be great. Especially since you could easily sell it as DLC even at a premium price like Blizzard likes to do.

Wait what!? WHY!!??

I was so looking forward to that. :(

They had changed the plotline too much from what was made.

Mike Morhaime isn't interested in greenlighting games that don't have eSports potential, so not only is that unlikely, but I'm curious to see what they do with Diablo 4 PvP.

How about adding more shit to their barebones shooter? So sparse on content updates but I shouldn't be surprised considering it's the same people who ran an active subscription mmo with no new content for over two years.

That's a shame. Wonder what else it could be then.

Yeah, I'm thinking it's a mistake to get hopes up for anything purely and/or heavily SP.

I hope it's overwatch related. Can't get enough of that universe. If it's a new ip then great, I'm completely sold on anything blizzard does

Nobody has really delivered a major first person RPG like Skyrim but with a heavy online element yet. Would be interested to see someone tackle that but focus heavily on PvP but PvE as well. Maybe a cross between something like ESO and The Division / Destiny

When last did you play the game?

Clearly it's StarCraft: Battlefield.

I do wonder why make another First-person shooter(that's likely to be multiplayer) if they already just released one.

Unless they want to captialize on their older franchises by using the setting in different genres than previous.

It has to be a mistake. They love to milk their games, so it has to be Overwatch related. It's unthinkable that they might be working on a new IP this early. It would be shocking coming from Blizzard.
