Playstation Plus Thread 3: Getting The Knack Of These Games

I finally sat down to play Everybody's Gone to the Rapture. I really enjoyed Dear Esther when it came out, and was very excited to play this. It was a really incredible experience, i finished it in one sitting.

It'll take me sometime to reflect on it, but it really was one of the best games I've had the pleasure of playing in a very, very long time. Also, I was born in the West Midlands and had an uncle i used to visit in Shropshire a lot, the visuals were very comfortable and familiar, despite the village being fictional. Stunning soundtrack too, wow. The game gave me quite an emotional response to many of its scenes and conversations, probably more so than any other game I've ever played.

I know this is a divisive genre, but I do hope anyone with a passing fancy gives it a try.

I finished Deadly Tower of Monsters and it really surprised me. It's campy, funny, very original it terms of some enemy designs and scenarios that play out as you ascend the Tower. There's also this wonderful feel that every area in the game is connected. It's not clear in the beginning, but as you get higher it becomes clear that it's really just one huge location. Diving from the top to get some remaining collectibles in some areas was really rewarding too.

Interested to read your thoughts post reflection. I also loved the game and wonder if it's one of those games where you really need to have at least a passing understanding of the culture it is rooted in in order to get the most out of it.

I'm thinking about trying this one soon so glad to read some feedback. Sounds like it might be fun.

So many PS+ games, so little time!!

Yeah, it's a decent little game. Not one that I'd have paid for, but for free it was good fun for a few hours. The unorthodox ending in particular was an enjoyably different approach.

Thanks for the comment. I'll give it a try, this could be taken as damning with faint praise though. :)

A couple more questions if you don't mind answering illusionary, is that few hours you mention start to finish? And are there any annoying difficulty spikes?

My PS+ for US is ending today or tomorrow. Not sure if I'll continue it just for the discounts. Have plus for my main EU account.
So the free games are not of interest, except the old ones I still haven't played.

Of course! I platinumed the game in, at a guess, somewhere around 7-8 hours (using a guide for the collectible-type trophies). If you just want to play through the game without worrying about trophies (which match up with challenges tracked in-game), you could cut a few hours off that. You can see a poll of others' experiences for platinum times here.

Nothing about the game was overly difficult IMO, and I typically seem to find difficulty levels a little higher than average. There are also plenty of checkpoints throughout.

...useful info re. Deadly Tower of Monsters...

Thanks for all of that that Illusionary, very much appreciated.

Looks like it will definitely go on the play list. Got to beat my Tricky Towers addiction and if that's with another game with the word Tower in it, so be it.

If a buy a digital PS Plus code from Amazon or some other US shop, can I use it on my EU account or are the codes region restricted?

Well, that's inconvenient. We're all probably buying one or two games during Black Friday that will be in Plus next month. We'll see.

Sony are generally okay with not doing this, but to be honest if you're willing to pay for something it's probably because you deem the game to be worth it, it certainly won't be expensive if it's in the BF/Flash sale, and then in the end you would actually own the game just in case your PS+ sub ever goes away.

So it's not a total disaster really.

For some reason I suspect that Transformers: Fall of Cybertron will be a plus freebie in December. Hope I'm wrong though :X

December lineup will be about the same time as PSX, which might give hope of some good games. As well as some surprise directly to plus release.

Yeah, if I was S-E and I wanted people to pay $60 for my new game, I would 100% give them a game for free that makes it so they can play that for six months instead and buy the new one for $20 later.

Maybe for FF7, but Type 0 is supershort and it can be completed by getting the Platinum in around 22 hours.

Hello folks. Looks like I'm finally getting myself a PS4 and have a little question.
Not sure where I remember this from, but I think online codes now are not depending on the Store. Question is, can I buy PS+ code from US and use it in Russia (or EU as example) ?

No, you are thinking wrong. They are country specific. Game codes are continental.

But it seems a lot of people don't like it. It'd be like like giving them XIII. Remind them of the bad part of the series.

Eh but Type 0 is really cheap and it's a PS4 game, you can easily find it for 10€ new here in Italy. FFXIII is one of the most hated old gen title.

Right, but you should see threads on Type-0 and how much a lot of people dislike it. I enjoyed it and even got the platinum, but there does seem to be dislke for it in general which could hurt FFXV more than help.

I know, as I wrote I played it and it's a game full of issues, with a plot that doesn't really make sense (the fact you need to play the game twice to understand it it's just awful), but actually it's the only FF available on PS4 (well, excluding 7).

I think FF Type 0 or FFVII will be on Plus this month.
Gotta love baseless speculation. You base this on what exactly? Even counting the release of FFXV it doesn't make sense.

Anyway, even if it's true, I just hope it's not, because FF Type 0 is utter garbage. Honestly I have rarely hated a game as much as I did this one. I think the only other games I loathed so much were DmC and, like, FF8 back in 1999.

Speaking of baseless speculation: I'm predicting that they announce the inclusion of psvr to the monthly games at psx...

Possibly at the demise of ps3 and/or vita?

God, I hope not. That would make plus even less popular.
So the wealthy who can afford VR get a shitty title for free?

Sony have to start including psvr titles at some point... you're right though: it shouldn't be at the expense of another platform.

I don't own a psvr personally but I feel that if Sony started adding a title every month, I'd add them to my download list and that may influence me to buy one eventually.

No posts about this yet?

That's a direct screenshot from my PS4 just now, so it looks like we're getting Invisible, Inc. and Stories: Path of Destinies in December. Not confirmed yet, of course, and personally I'm surprised by these to choices, but if true this is a superb month for PS+ (even if I do already own Invisible, Inc.)

It's then so incredibly disappointing to see people continuing to complain about "indies" in the face of these two...

Awesome line-up this month! I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on both these titles.

I've had my eye on Stories since it came on earlier this year, but never saw it pop up in any sales. Thanks for the early Christmas gift, Sony!

Add PSP and PsOne compatability to PS4 and Sony will have more good and cheap options for plus games that is available for multiple platforms.

Shit, I bought Invisible Inc. at launch and I didn't really have a chance to play it yet.

You've got a week to get value for money out of it!

It'd be a great choice, for me. Bought it on Steam but never was sure about how it'd translate to consoles, control-wise, so couldn't justify buying it again.

I'm seriously considering that idea. :>

As for the console version, it works great as long as you can deal with the tiny fonts. They didn't work hard enough to change the UI.

Yup, quite enjoyed this as well.
