COMICS! |OT| November 2016. Wilde for comics, 2 Hickman books this month.

I'm cool with Wolverine these days. I was sick of him back around 02-05 era when he was EVERYWHERE.

As for Mags and Mystique it's the movies that have soured me on them. But she was fine in Messiah Complex. I do prefer them as frenemies of the X-Men rather than actual members.

I think Magneto generally works pretty well as a member of the X-Men, but Mystique really doesn't work well as an X-ally. She needs to be a free agent, and occasionally being part of a villainous team to work properly as a character.

How old is Carol though? 30's?

Yeah but comics don't age. Humans do. Marvel don't want Olivia to be 42 playing her in an Avengers movie.

Brie Larson is 27

Wow, Zoe Saldana is 38. She looks amazing.

All I wanted was Olivia in a Marvel movie but the time has passed. Gamora was her moment. :(

Mystique was hardcore in Messiah Complex

Yeah I'd say shooting her daughter in the chest multiple time to save her life definitely qualifies. As does what she did to both
Sinister and the baby
at the end.

I was sad to see that New X-Men ended with the event. I was really starting to like those kids. How is the Young X-Men book that followed? I noticed it's by Guggenheim and only 12 issues so I'll run through it either way. Just wondering what I have in store.

Larson isn't a bad pick. Maybe Olivia can play Grandma Danvers.

I started Narcos because everyone here is talking about it, all the Messis, first episode was good. I'm behind on every show, I didn't even watch most of Raw due to the footballs.

I dunno. Haven't read it. X-23 goes into Kyle and Yost's X-Force, though.

I don't head the the comic shop as much as I would like, so this hits me as a bit of a surprise.

Titans isn't good. Just read 4 and 5. I kinda like it? At least the art is good. For a book that isn't double shipping, it moves at a snails pace. Which, I suppose, is more ironic given the book is almost entirely focused on Wally. I think part of me dislikes this book because it feels like it is going to be the one to tie in the
Watchmen travesty
. Even my love of Nightwing isn't keeping me with this book.

Speaking of Nightwing. Number 9 was ok, but the title of the next arc means we are going back to some delicious roots. Very excited.

I finished tomb raider rise of raiding, the tombs are side missions and the story is awful and seems like it's the awful base for future games in the series , but i like how it played.

That's cool. Right now I have the first two post-MC issues each of X-Factor, X-Force, Uncanny X-Men, X-Men Legacy, and Young X-Men on my tablet. Now I'm just trying to figure out the best reading order. Seems like they put X-Force out a few months too early since Logan is still running around Europe with Colossus and Nightcrawler in UXM. Then the next issue in that order is X-Force #1 with Logan leading an already formed team.

I think it would've been better if DC gave Wally his own ongoing.

I wouldn't know.

But I'll give you the same reading order I give everyone. Now that you've read Complex

X-Force by Craig Kyle and Chris Yost Complete Collection Vol. 1
X-Force/Cable: Messiah War
X-Force by Craig Kyle and Chris Yost Complete Collection Vol. 2
X-Men: Second Coming

Read that and be happy. Even Blink's in there!

That tomb raider story is just haunting me, I can't get over how terrible it was. How do you set your entire game and franchise around that? it's a great reflection on this trash generation of gaming when you're
chasing ass creed after the franchise has already started to fade.

I wish I were a Pokémon fan, that's how bad things are.

So I'm not ever buying Dead Rising 4.

Haha I'm looking forward to it BUT I'll be up front that I wasn't a huge fan of the first game, and I've enjoyed them progressively more as time has went by. So I think I'm one of those people they are speaking to by changing things, but obviously that's not cool for people who want an actual sequel to the series they loved and they really should sort that out.

Second point is that regardless of how I feel about the gameplay of the series, I don't have any confidence they will provide some sort of meaningful story, and that may not be the best choice for them to highlight and talk up.

I've got so much on my pull list that I read all five issues of Titans last week. I absolutely loved it - especially #5. I grew up reading Wally West and Abnett is hitting all the right notes with the character. It was great to see some Waid or Millar/Morrison-level speed in a Flash book again.

Uh oh had a dream about silly monkey reading valiant comics

Sorry old friend but my dreams predict the future, things are about to get real bad for you

YES.

It is a good fucking comic. Maybe the best comic ever. Scratch that, it is the best comic ever.

My top 3 GOAT comic book series are:
#1 Life & Times of Scrooge McDuck
#2 James Roberts' Transformers series
#3 All-Star Superman

I bumped the thread when book 5 was released. No one was interested. -_-

Don Rosa wrote a huge run which is being collected in the Don Rosa library collection.

A small subset (one large "arc") of those have been released as a separate run called Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. In the new box sets, volume 4 and volume 5 contain those issues.

Time to put my Hellboy writeup on hold and get started on Life & Times writeup, should be faster to make. Just gimme a week to finish writing it and the Jan. OT up.

Civil War 2 #7
So for one, I love Sorrentino's guest appearance. Very nice touch and I always love his art. I also find it HILARIOUS that Maria Hill of all people decides that NOW is a time for honesty with
Miles killing Steve. "One of us will have to say we were warned!" Fuck you Maria. After all the lying and Pleasant Hill, it's a mystery as to why you're even still in charge, so why do you think now is the time to be honest? Acting like you'll actually do the right thing.
The sheer hypocrisy is just so over the top that it hurts.

Fuck Tony in this issue as well. He was completely out of line. Carol did nothing wrong here. She made all the right moves and he came in and fucked it up.

All that said, I agree that this issue didn't need to be on its own. It was very clearly supposed to be part of a bigger whole. Regardless I still really enjoyed it as I have been enjoying most of the event.

Death of X #4
Welp this is finally done. And it's not great. There's no way the Inhumans are not just villains after this and the fact that the X-Men would take a loss like this is insane. As well as the inconsistency between the ending of this and the X-books being insanity. Clearly there was a mass disconnect here and the idea that Lemire could possibly allow this ending WHEN IT DIRECTLY CONTRADICTS WHAT HE WROTE IN EXTRAORDINARY X-MEN is fucking ludicrous.

Overall bad event with some surprisingly good moments. I still look forward to IvX though

Maria Hill isn't in charge anymore after Pleasant Hill. She is just acting director with no power until her trial.

I said this earlier about Death of X, but my theory is that the original plan was for Cyclops/Emma to commit either genocide or a massacre, but it was later decided that it was too much or something when they started planning the stuff after that book.

Spencer and Wilson's reaction to Trump in their books is going to be something to look out for.
The election issue is apparently about Ms. Marvel trying to elect a 3rd party candidate which GWW calls "high fantasy"...

Shit, Hopeless will be on Generation X now I'm betting.

Doom Patrol 23-27

First off I have to ask am I crazy or does this scene remind anyone else a lot of the dinner scene and the baby from Eraserhead?

It immediately came to mind for some reason.

I really liked the quick and crazy story of Red Jack. Not sure if I fully understand what exactly was going on the whole time, but it worked in and of itself.

Then the follow-up issue with the two back at the base(still having a hard time remembering their names) was really creepy and really good.

Getting to just the start of The Painting That Ate Paris, but I love that all the people that Mr. Nobody had been meeting in the epilogues are now with him as super villains. I'm guessing the Gene Bomb that they keep talking about was something big in the DC Universe at the time, but I like the idea of this forgotten guy picking up these thrown away and ignored people to make his team of villains. I'm a little confused on how his origin worked though. Really interested to keep diving in. First arc was weird but kind of meh, but it's been all amazing since then.

A little detail, but I loved Cliff trying to sit down and document as many of Jane's personalities as possible. It's only 6 or so issues in but it really nails down more of a connection between those two.

Dear Lord lol. Made a tongue in cheek comment to Tim on twitter about bc reporting the hoopla thing (since half the time it seems like their news filters in after some thing is mentioned in here) and got a reply from Rich wanting to know what I was talking about haha

Does *anyone* expect She Hulk to appear in MCU? I was thinking more of a character like Phyla-Vell.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Phyla(without the -Vell since Marvel doesn't look to be having the family in the MCU and all Kree are evil there) show up in a decade as the first lesbian cosmic MCU character. But first they'll do two trilogies focused on the solo adventures of Rocket and Groot and a solo Nebula movie. /s

The fact the new Gamora book is going to be a new retconned origin story/year 1 for her with Nebula training with her like the MCU feels weird to me. Since she first showed up Nebula has always been that character who claimed to be Thanos' daughter but he himself killed her(before bringing her back as a zombie in Infinity Gauntlet)due to her claiming to be something she was not when he met her for the very first time. Skipping Warlock meeting Gamora also feels weird.

Cosmic Marvel becoming more and more like the MCU and more and more Earth based is a sad development.

Nah. They're forced to introduce new characters and not every woman can be Generic Love Interest #12 or Martial Arts Expert #7, so some of them will be superpowered. Phlya is a very solid choice for that and could reasonably be introduced e.g. in a GotG or Captain Marvel movie. Also Nebula is not going to get a solo movie in the next decade if it takes them more than ten years to make a Captain Marvel movie.

Lashley

Why does he wear the mask!?
I'm really enjoying Annihilation. It feels like an actual event with the entire Universe involved (Except Earth)
