Beer |OT2| Can't stop won't stop the fresh hop

IMG_3915.jpg

Buddy went up to Vancouver over Thanksgiving and brought me back a Canadian fresh hop.

Aww yeah.

Shoulda put it in regular off topic to get more eyes for a few days before it got shoved back to community.

And was expecting an op with some info for newcomers, but since we in community doesn't really matter.

Well, here's to our livers!

I copied the original first post and just added "another." People find their way here when needed, chill and have a beer.

Those top beer lists don't help anyone with the way distribution works.

I've seen guys walk into Bottleworks with a printout of that list and get furious when told that we don't get the majority of those beers in WA. They also normally accuse the employee of being a liar.

And then there's the secondary market often driven by that shit. A coworker of one of my best friends is trying to unload his TG Assassin for $1,000. Hahawtf

One brewery with a 1/3 of the Top 25. No hype involved there. Nope, none at all... It's hard to look at lists like that anymore. Also why trading for beers like that isn't worth it.

Sometimes I feel like the only sane one. Good to know I'm not alone.

Not alone at all. I still don't quite understand the TG hype. I can pick up the Decorah bombers with relative regularity and don't think it's worth the 10 minute drive over to Council Bluffs haha. There's just so much good, easy to find beer, local or otherwise, that I just can't justify going out of my way for it, or maybe I'm just lazy.

Everything I've had from TG (Florida cans and Decorah bottles) was good, but it's no better than anything I can get locally. Massive homer hype.

Don't blame you. You are surrounded by amazing beer (the entire West coast is ridiculous). Easy to homer there! ;-) Cincy is getting better but will never approach those levels.

Oro Negro hitting shelves next week in Ohio. Excited to finally try it out.

I was in Houston this past weekend and hit up a couple new breweries that recently opened; Eureka Heights and Brash Brewing. Both of which are in repurposed industrial warehouse buildings, which I absolutely love.

Brash's Milk The Venom stout is in my top 10. It was $3 to boot.

Eureka had a nice little lineup. Nothing spectacular, but pretty solid beers nonetheless. I'll definitely be going back next time I'm in town.

Now I have a bunch of Hoof and Trillium to drink at home. Plus some Yellow Rose I brought home. My girlfriend got some IwanttoBU, Board Shorts and Cutting Tiles (Citra) from a trade, so we'll share that. And a co-worker of mine gave me some Voltan to encourage my love for stouts.

Has anyone put out regional lists?

Just had Avery's new Tangerine Quad. Really heavy on the bourbon and a pretty big citrus punch. Good, but I'm almost certain I'd prefer the base beer.

On another note, Nebraska Brewing changed up their IPA recipe and it's pretty nice. Pretty standard west coast IPA of 4-5 years ago example, but very well made.

I think you can do them by state on BA and RateBeer.
Right, but they only list beers from each individual state. So for Florida, for example, the list is pretty much all Cigar City and Funky Buddha. Which is fine, but I'm familiar with all that. I was hoping for a list of everything that's available regionally.

That would be a massive undertaking to break it down by what's available based on regional distribution. Would be fascinating but I doubt such a list exist.

Seekabrew lists the breweries available in each state if you want to start working on it.

Think I found a new favorite. This Black Butte XXVIII birthday reserve is sublime. If you're an imperial or chocolate stout fan try to get your hands on one of these.

If I put that kind of work into drinking, I'd be a rich man.

Sitting here drinking Miller High Life while reading this thread lol. Anyway, if you're ever near eastern Virginia, I'd highly suggest checking out The Answer Brewpub. Checked it out the other day with my girlfriend. I only had their Blue Straws Berliner Weisse and Extra Credit IPA, but yeah, worth it. The Blue Straws wasn't really remarkable, but the Extra Credit was a really tasty Imperial IPA. They also have tasty Vietnamese food - I'd suggest the five spice pork banh mi.

Gonna go out tomorrow after work and try to find a 12 pack of Sierra Nevada Hop Hunters. Seems like the places around me only have six packs available.

Having a '15 Weyerbacher Sunday Morning Stout. Already one of my favorites, mellows so nicely after a year. Fantastic.

Picked up some Oro Negro, Gumbalhead, Baptista, and Double Barrel Baptist... Expensive trip
Very nice. Will get Oro next week.

Picked up Lizard of Koz from Founders. If I had patience, I'd age it. Will end up drinking it by Friday.

Having the Peppermint Victory at Sea tonight. A damn sight better than the coconut (because I don't like coconut), but still not as good as the base beer. The peppermint almost blends with the bitterness of the coffee too much that it is confusing.

Good, but I don't feel compelled to buy it again when I can get a six pack of the regular more easily.

Maybe it's just coincidence, but I also feel the same exact way about their Sculpin variants. They're...ok. Still prefer just the original base.

As for Victory at Sea, I've had the base and coconut. I'm with you-- prefer the base. I'll still grab a peppermint at some point for comparison.

For Sculpin it is all about the pineapple for me. That extra lil hint of sweetness is wonderful in it.

But base Sculpin is superior to Grapefruit.

I don't like the Pineapple much prefer the grapefruit, but now honestly I'd rather have a Stone Enjoy By or Hoof Hearted now that I can get my hands on em. All of Three Floyd's stuff is so readily available now you they must have really ramped up production.

Seeing Alpha King on shelves a lot more often. Same with Gumballhead. As far as Sculpin goes, I never really buy it unless there's a limited selection at a bar. My favorite is definitely grapefruit.

Should be cracking open my Lizard of Koz tonight, so I'll post impressions later. Also have a Columbus Sohio Stout I may drink. Either that or Cultrider from Hoof.

I've heard good things but you really have to like berry as I hear it dominates over the other flavors in the beer

It does. The blueberry is very strong and upfront in it. Everything else is detectable, but plays second fiddle to the berry. Hopefully some age mellows the berry a bit

Berries and sweets in general are my thing. I loved Rübæus (especially mixed with KBS) and most fruity sours. We'll see!

Stopped by Taco Tonto's in Kent, OH while running errands earlier today and had Musk of The Minotaur for the first time. Wicked good IPA. I had promised the owner I'd bring him some Yellow Rose back in July, so the main reason I stopped by was to let him know I had some on the way.

He didn't have any Hoof left in stock, but offered to pull anything form his personal stash. Super cool dude. He also told me Konkey Dong is Hoof's next release (along with Mom Jeans), which will be next Sunday.
