Final Fantasy VII 3D immersion ride to open soon in Dubai

Riva Digital, an India-based CG company, is partnering with Square Enix to open a Final Fantasy VII themed ride in Dubai soon. It is called "Final Fantasy VII: Escape from Midgar" and looks like it might be Advent Children themed, going by the logo. The same company is also working on the Final Fantasy XV movie Kingsglaive.

Brian Smith: Media Director

On behalf of the creative and production team at Riva Digital, and working closely with IP holders Square Enix, media director Brian Smith oversaw the development and direction of this CG-animated 3-D ride film, opening soon at City Walk Dubai. Featuring popular Final Fantasy VII characters and settings, the immersion tunnel format allows for a thrilling and ride experience for guests of all ages
This ride is based on the game Final Fantasy VII (because, let’s be honest, that’s the best one in the series). It will take you down a 3D immersion tunnel where you’ll join the game’s main characters as they try and escape. You’ll be on an omni-directional motion platform that seats 30, and the AV system is on a curved screen and has five sets of 3D media projectors.

The same theme park will have rides for Battlefield, Gears of War, Resident Evil, PES, Asura's Wrath and Dragon Age. The rides will be at a 18,000 square meter facility called Hub Zero, which is opening "in a few weeks." Exact date still TBC.

Looks like we already had a thread/announcement about the Resident Evil: Bio Terror ride back in April.

I was originally going to post this as a rumor, as I found it on no fewer than 5 different resumes, but after doing some more digging, looks like it is nearly finished.

A place I can never go to, so I will never be able to see it myself. outside of it looks pretty fucking cool though!

I also wonder how much of the Remake would be influencing Midgar's representation in the ride; that company does some very realistic CGi, and presumably they had made the teaser for Remake.

I'm a little perplexed that they're using both Advent Children and OG logos for the same attraction... something Square Enix generally doesn't do. Maybe that outdoor shot is just a mock-up, I can't tell.
Quality control a little lax, maybe?

Ah, yeah, I only just now notice the 'Advent Children' subtitle underneath. (I assumed by logo you were referring to Cloud's look) That is pretty weird.

How big is video gaming in Dubai? I know it's a tourist hub (of sorts) but this seems like such a bizarre place to put a series of video-game themed rides like this.

Very nice, next year I think I'll go to Dubai again, at least I now know what I will do there :D

The SEGA Republic in the Dubai Mall was very populated every time I went there (for that sweet, sweet Afterburner Climax arcade machine)

There is no other city on earth more comparable to Midgar than Dubai. I don't think the concept of irony exists in that hell hole.

I think you should look up all the crazy awesome shit they have in Dubai before asking a question like this. Considering they have an indoor Sega theme park, something like this is not surprising at all.

Theres even a rollercoaster minigame in the damn game and they dont use that. Would love a real life SPEED game

This thread showed up as "Final Fantasy VII 3D..." on the main page of gaf and I momentarily flipped my shit that a 3ds version was coming. Then I prepared for disappointment ... but this is surprisingly cool.

My dad's working in the Emirates. Time to ask if we can go down to Dubai next time we visit...

Will send a report if I make it lol :D

Amusement parks are no joke in the Emirates. There's a big sonic themed arcade/indoor amusement park in the Dubai Mall.

It's strange that Dubai is becoming the video game theme park capital. Between this and Sega Republic, it's quickly becoming somewhere I definitely want to visit in the near future.

I've been doing some research into video games themed rides of the past and it's something that is still incredibly new for most of the world. Aside from a few rides here and there (mostly Europe and Japan) we're really seeing a genesis of rides based on video games. I recently went on the Mass Effect ride at Great America in Santa Clara CA and it was a spectacular ride.

Wow, never knew Dubai had amusement park rides based on games.

Makes me wish fot Universal Studios to hurry up on that Nintendo Land.

Didnt they already broke ground in Universal Japan for NintendoLand or am I getting things mixed up? I heard they're aiming for a 2020 opening year.

I do wish that Universal would say anything about NintendoLand in Orlando, though.

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
or 1 year too early.

but its based directly on AC though. If they wanted a remake based attraction, why not just go with a remake based attraction? Or an FF7 attraction in general?
