1. Red Dead Redemption 2 - I put 1000 hours into the original Redemption's multiplayer alone. I am willing to make that same stupid life choice for RDR2.

2. Mass Effect: Andromeda - At first, I didn't think much of this game. I originally felt Mass Effect was finished after the original trilogy, and the fact that this was taking place in a whole new setting missing all of our beloved characters disinterested me. However, the more I've seen and read on it, the more excited I am to play. I hope it delivers and we get a whole new trilogy and cast of characters to fall in love with.

1. Dangun Feveron: one of my top 10 shmups, m2 does an excellent job on ports, and I can't wait for online leaderboards (something my pcb can't do )

2. Council of the Crows: Jonas Kyratzes next game in the Lands of Dream. The Sea Will Claim Everything was my 2013 goty, A Postcard from Afthonia was great, and I've had high hopes for this ever since I backed it on indiegogo as Ithaka in the Clouds. It sucks because it took until The Talos Principle to start to notice Kyratzes's brilliant writing.

3. Thimbleweed Park: I'm a sucker for point and click adventure especially those from lucasarts. Ron creating a new game with subtle influences from Twin Peaks and X-files? I'm in.

4. Yooka Laylee: I can't wait to get a copy on PS4. I've actually been replaying the Banjo games in anticipation for this. Those platformers were among my favorite.

5. Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom: absolutely adored Wrath of the White with. Beat it and spent a decent amount of time doing end game stuff for fun.

6. Torment: Tides of Numenera: Planescape Torment is a top 3 game of mine. Played a tiny bit of the beta (didn't want to spoil too much) and the writing really reminded me of the original. Have a physical release of this one that'll be on the way.

1. Mass Effect Andromeda : I loved the original trilogy. I loved that the decisions you made in the previous game carried over. Bioware has faltered a bit recently in the narrative department with DA: Inquisition, but I'm hopeful that MEA can return them to their former glory.

2. Divinity Original Sin 2 : I've played the beginning of the first one at least twice and am about to fire it up again. I really need to dig in and get out of the first town. That being said, I love the aesthetic and the combat system, so I kickstarted the sequel.

3. Battle Chasers Nightwar : another game I kickstarted despite knowing nothing about the comic. I love Joe Mad's artwork and what I've seen of this JRPG-inspired dungeon crawler has me hyped.

4. Red Dead Redemption 2 : the teaser was underwhelming, but going back to RDR should be a great ride. Pun intended.

5. Halo Wars 2 : played a ton of the original, especially online with friends. Might lean toward the PC version this time, just because RTS with a controller is a drag.

I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch of indie games, but here we go:

1. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: It feels good to be hyped for Zelda again. A Link Between Worlds was the series's best since MM and just about wiped the taste of SS from my mouth. Several lengthy delays and a strong showing at E3 have inspired some confidence that BotW may overcome both the weaknesses of recent console Zeldas and some of the common pitfalls of open-world games. I can't wait.

2. Divinity: Original Sin 2: The first game was one of the strongest RPGs of the decade. The second updates the already best-in-class battle system and adds crazy ambitious questing and multiplayer mechanics. If it works, we may be looking at a modern classic. By putting it at two, I am actually underselling my belief about how special this game could be.

3. Torment: Tides of Numenera: I'm pretty calm and collected about Numenera, I think because I don't fully believe in inXile. But the design and writing pedigree are there. And whatever technical issues or UI ugliness we have to deal with (not like PST was a looker in that regard, tbf) we know we're going to get a highly original setting and an ambitious story.

1. Torment: Tides of Numenera: This setting is amazing, and I love the PnP RPG. The crpg has great talent on it, and I am honestly looking forward to this game far more than I was Pillars (which I love, btw.) PLUS it's a spiritual successor to one of the best games ever. My most-anticipated in a long while. I am using the rules system the PnP game uses to build a campaign setting right now, so I am basically saturated in anticipation (yes, all over my face.)

2. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: It's a Zelda game going open world with seemingly fun physics, involved combat, and the uniquely-LoZ way of telling a story. I love open-world games and I love Zelda games, so this is kind of a dream come true.

3. Mass Effect: Andromeda One of my favorite franchises in modern gaming and an amazing universe I will always return to as long as it keeps coming. I am optimistic about the exploration-focused narrative and gameplay since I felt that was one area in which the other games felt a bit limited despite being excellent for many other reasons. Also looking forward to a more free-form character creation system a LOT.

4. Pyre: Wonderful-looking, inspired indie fantasy adventure/rugby game from the devs of Bastion and Transistor? Day 0. Very excited about this game and I want everyone else to be, too.

5. Divinity: Original Sin 2: I don't give a fuck just give me more.

6. Yooka-Laylee: It's a Rare-style platformer that looks fun and charming like a Rare-style platformer.

7. Shenmue III: Have always wanted and never thought I'd get it. Almost nervous about how this turns out, but I am still hype.

8. Vampyr: I love DONTNOD, and I am looking forward to seeing what they can do with a project like this. Honestly expecting a really, really good game. Remember Me was underrated and LIS was just amazing. I have a feeling third time's a real shit-kicker.

9. Absolver: I've always wanted a game like this: Deep martial arts combat mixed with exploration and co-op-meets-PvP, sort of like a Souls/Wuxia game in a strange setting. Tentatively pumped about the possibilities, but worried that the mix of elements might be hard to make play well, else it would be higher on my list.

10. Horizon: Zero Dawn: It just looks too good to not want. Beautiful visuals, a cool robo-dino setting, and seemingly fun combat options.

1. The Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+ - It may be a dlc, but I will play it like no other game in 2017. Afterbirth will have so much content and (community) content patches that it may very well count as a game in its own right.
2. Zelda - Breath of the Wild - I am hyped for the Switch, I am hyped for an open world Zelda. I hope this game returns the sense of exploration and wonder to the franchise which was missing lately.
3. Below - An amazingly stylish roguelike from the makers of Sword and Sworcerey and with the composer of said game's stellar soundtrack? Count me in.
4. Red Dead Redemption 2 - The first one was so memorable in terms of world building and atmosphere. And the ending nailed it. I expect Rockstar to surpass my lofty expectations.
5. Chasm - Out of the countless pixel art platformers, this is the one I am looking forward the most. Gorgeous art and promising gameplay.
6. Ghost Song - I love Metroidvania games. This one looks very unique and promising in terms of style and mood.
7. Ni No Kuni 2 - The first one was an incredibly endeering cross between the films of Studio Ghibli and an Pokemon RPG.
8. Heart Forth, Alicia - It looks so charming and sweet. I am waiting for this for quite a while.
9. State of Decay 2 - I really got immersed into the world of the first one. It was really successful with that "my community and me against the world" thing. The survival hit the sweet spot between accessible and absorbing.
10. Mass Effect Andromeda - I liked the first, loved the second, got really pissed a the third. I really like travelling to space where the universe feels vast and exiting. Hope Andromeda will let me do that.

1. Shenmue III : There is absolutely, positively no way this is coming out in 2017. But it meets the requirements in the OP and it is my most anticipated game ever, so here we are.
2. Star Citizen : No way does this come out in 2017 either, at least not in its entirety, but just getting Squadron 42 will be more than enough for me.
3. Sonic Mania : Taxman is the hero Sonic needs, not the one he deserves. I'm confident this will be the best Sonic game since S3&K.
4. The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild : A system seller for a system it's not even exclusive for. I will buy a Switch just to play this.
5. Mass Effect Andromeda : Mass Effect 1 is one of my favourite games ever, Mass Effect 2 is great, I never even played Mass Effect 3. I'm hoping Andromeda gives me a reason to come back, and revitalises the franchise.
6. Project Sonic 2017 : Despite the name, I'm pretty confident this also won't make 2017. Still, a new Sonic game in the vein of Generations is enough to get me excited.
7. Sea of Thieves : Another for the list of "no way does this make 2017". A free-form pirate MMO from Rare ticks a lot of my "most wanted" boxes.
8. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands : This game veers in my mind between garbage and great, so I'm hotly anticipating how it ends up turning out.
9. For Honor : My hype for this has been ebbing somewhat, but I'm still a big fan of the core concept, so here's hoping they pull it off.
10. Crackdown 3 : Another game with almost no chance of actually seeing release in 2017, but I'm really looking forward to finally experiencing the Power of the Cloud, which this game will definitely take advantage of in meaningful ways.


Pretty funny that Persona 5 will be coming up on it's 4th year straight in the GAF Most Anticipated Top 10, and Breath of the Wild will be making it's 3rd appearance.

1: Ghost Recon Wildlands :

I'm sure I'm going to be in a small group of people who have this as number 1. However so far this generation some old MMO guildies and I have had huge fun with the co-op/MMO lite games Destiny and The Division despite their many, many, many flaws. Worst case this turns out to be "The Division meets Just Cause", frankly I'd be fine with that.​

2. Zelda Breath of the Wild :

Not really been excited for previous Zeldas, but for some reason this time its different. Possibly as I've been playing more WiiU recently with my toddler and have a new appreciation for a well made nintendo game. ​

3: Mass Effect Andromeda :

Cautious, but with some hope. Dragon Age Inquisition had its flaws but I still enjoyed it, hopefully it indicates a return to form for Bioware. Given the Mass Effect history though I'm definitely waiting for in depth impressions beforehand.

4. Horizon Zero Dawn :

Great setting with a compelling world, RPG and open world. Looking forward to this.​

5. Cosmic Star Heroine :

Kickstarted and patiently waiting, its nearly here! Robert from Zeboyd, please send a preview copy that I can play while I'm stuck in hospital the first week of January (plead, beg).​

6. Yooka-Laylee :

Another kickstarted game, looking forward to seeing if the guys from Rare can recapture that old magic, make tons of cash and make a new Viva Pinata.​

7. Persona 5 :

It's so stylish, love a Persona game and this looks excellent.​
