Stardew Valley |OT| Resting Under a Harvest Moon [Up: now on PS4]

How difficult/complex is the gameplay? How much of a time sink is it to get the most out of it in terms of building stuff?

Is it more akin to Minecraft/Terraria?

The day cycle is a period of 18 hours in game (or 13.5 minutes real time; one in-game hour is 45 seconds) from 6:00AM to 12:00AM (Midnight).

So to get through year 1, you need to spend 25 hours. And that doesn't account time when the clock stops (opening boxes, reading letters, cutscenes, ...).

Bought this last night for the first time. Managed to accidently give a geode to some random person before I figured out how stuff works.

Love the game but my dear lord my kingdom for an irrigation system!

There are 3 types of sprinklers that cover progressively larger areas. You unlock them as you level your farming skill.

Hey guys. Strange bug after playing stardew valley, on both mine and my gf's ps pros. The bug is not affecting the game itself, however it locked up some of my other games.
Destiny, Fifa 17, Fallout 4 and even FFVX (disc) all lock up on the loading screen.
The only thing we did before noticing this is play Stardew, and it happened on both our consoles. We fixed it by restoring licenses and restarting the console but now am hesitant on playing stardew again:(

Anyone else notice this issue before?

Apparently the game crashes for a lot of players during the switch from year 1 to year 2 making it impossible to progress further. (Xbox One)

The XBO version is in dire need of a patch, the pauses are bad enough, but the crashes are beyond annoying.

I am always perplexed that this stuffed isn't cleared up pre-release, it's not like you need to play it for very long to find the problems.

I've had the same issue as well with my pro since I've installed stardew valley. If I play it for any extended period of time and try to put the console in rest mode it gets stuck and I have to reboot it into safe mode.

Not only that but it's affecting other games as well. after playing for a few hours last night I quit the application and tried to boot up titanfall 2 which I have on disc; the game managed to boot up but it got stuck on the initial load screen so I had to reboot, which in turn got stuck stuck. I tried it with other games as well and I was getting multiple software crashes on everything played directly after stardew valley. I tried to boot up let it die, but it wouldn't leave the splash screen.

In addition to the software, the game seems to mess with the systems OS as well. While I was playing it I received a party invite and when I tried hitting the home button to accept the entire system froze. I wasn't able to press the power or anything I had to pull the cord.

I try to stay away from hyperbole, but based on my experience if you have a ps4 pro I would not buy this game, because it may actually damage the console....I went ahead and uninstalled it for now. It's a shame too, I was really looking forward to playing it and now I'm mad I wasted 15 bucks on it.

damn... hopefully they manage to fix it soon, i really wanted to play this game.

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
That update looks nice. Lots of tiny tweaks that will be appreciated.

This game is criminally addictive.

Is this guys still working by himself or did he hire some folks to help him? Or is it another game I am thinking about. I can't image supporting a product over three (or kind 3.5 with the plus) platforms by myself.

He's still the only one working on the core game, but Chucklefish, the publisher, is handling the ports. He's also getting help in regards to localization stuff. Chucklefish is also playing a part in the development of the multiplayer features.

Another Pro user with issues. When leaving a party, my entire system hardlocks, it repeats system errors until I pull the plug. Great game otherwise.

I hope that it's ready next week.

Edit: LB/RB / L1/R1 should have a function. Picking up 10 items would be a good use.

I have experienced issues on my PS4 Pro, all the ones mentioned earlier in the thread (buggy Rest Mode, Share features, leaping into other games, even turning the system off was faulty after playing SV)

I deleted the game from my HDD and so far everything works great, will report back with my insights after further testing, but it's safe to say the game as-is is a threat for the PS4 Pro, you can buy it because the game is flipping great but don't download it just yet, wait for a fix.

Bought the game on PS4 and started it and immediately something obvious: plenty of shit is being needlessly forced to a goddamn mouse cursor that could've been perfectly controlled via the Dpad. Starting from the character creator. I mean look at the Pause Menu! It's filled with grid squares! That's Dpad friendly if I ever saw one!

They really went lazy with the controller implementation for consoles. I hope they make it better.

Is this game fucking up anyone's PS4? Whenever I enter standby while playing this game, my console pulses the orange light and doesn't turn back on. ONLY when playinv this game. Super weird and annoying. I love the game but I might try for a refund.

Yes others are having the same issue, I cant even play other games after playing stardew. I hope they fix this soon.

The amount of issues this game is having is absolutely ridiculous. It's not the fact that it has software glitches, it's the fact that it's messing with the actual system OS which is mind boggling.

The worst part is that it seems like nobody is talking about these issues at all including the developer. I know they released those upcoming patch notes but there wasn't even a sentence in there acknowledging the errors this game is giving ps4 pro users. I've even posted on their official forums...nothing, no response at all. It's only a matter of time before somebody gets the the sleep mode error without knowing what's going on, pulls the plug on their system and corrupts all of their data.

Putting my name in the hat with this game fucking up my Pro. I have it on PC and was so excited to double dip and play with a new farm and stuff. I didn't even realize Stardew was the problem.

First time I played I tried starting Until Dawn afterwords and it wouldn't leave the splash screen so I reinstalled THAT game. Put it in sleep mode to download and didn't realize until the next day that the console was like... still on? You could hear and feel it and the orange light was pulsing way faster than normal and I had to unplug the console to turn it back on.

Supremely disappointed as I am addicted to this game like crack. Gonna post on the forums and make sure he hears about it.

Edit: went ahead and posted in the known bug thread and emailed chucklefish as Molly suggested to hopefully get the word out.

Is there a spoiler-free beginner's guide somewhere? Even a video. Just something which points me in the right direction early on? I know there have been a bunch linked in here but I'm hesitant to click on some that are too spoilery.

Have a Pro, ever since installing Stardew my console fails to shut down properly. A triple beep every single time, even with rest mode/suspend turned off. Ugh.

I have a pro, and haven't had any issues since purchasing it. BUT I have only played stardew valley since. Hopefully when I go to play something else I won't have any issues. Will let you guys know if I have any problems, as what could be another to a growing list.

A patch is up for PS4. I assume it fixes what they posted yesterday including the UI placement. Since my HDTV is newer and has a Screen Fit mode I never had the problem of the UI being overscanned. I hoped they'd give the option to place the screen border ourselves but instead they just moved all of it farther from the edge :(

Hello, we are aware of this issue and looking into it. As it's related to the playstation system OS, we're talking directly to Sony.

The latest patch is out on Playstation right now! Xbox won't be far behind, we'll get the update out as soon as we get the go ahead.

I implore you to make the effort to make SDV more controller friendly. I get that the cursor might be better at somethings but many menial and basic tasks it's cumbersome and a chore to use an analog stick to move a cursor. Even when quitting to the title screen and choosing between OK and NO instead of a Dpad click and one button press we have to drag a pointer.

Please make the controller implementation more intuitive. We don't have mice on consoles.

As long as it is out before I reach the end of year 1 I won't complain.

ConcernedApe has commented on twitter recently about both the menu control and game controls.
@LouisFil I will consider that, thanks for the feedback. the controls could be improved in several ways still and I will be working on it

The focus since release has been performance and stability fixes, but we did work on a number of controller improvements that made it into this latest patch. We're looking at all of the feedback and the aim is to continue implementing improvements in upcoming updates.

Isn't things like working with multiple language settings of the console and not messing up the OS somthing that Sony cert should catch? At least that's what I thought

I realize this and the improvements are welcomed but they're still far from ideal for a console controller. I hope this is high in the priority list.

Can someone explain to me how to fish on the PS4 version? When you want it to go up it shoots up extremely fast, taping it to keep it still is hard. Just seems very weirdly hard and slightly unfair. Considering how fast the meter drops.

Just keep at it. You'll get used to it and unlock better rods and other things to help you. I had trouble at first too, but it does get easier.

Post patch, how is the PS4 version on a standard PS4? I can deal with odd controls but I'd rather wait on playing this if it's prone to crashing or still has other issues.

Does this game pause? In other words, does the game keep going when your not playing like in animal crossing.
It does pause, time doesn't continue while you're not playing and it works on a timeline of its own in which each season lasts 28 days. You get to save only at the end of each day.

But I can't even keep it still. Do I need to tap faster? I don't get it.

Nah, hold the button and then ease off a bit when the fish gets near the top of the green bar, then hold it down again to sort of keep it 'hovering', if that makes sense. Some fish are jumpy too, which doesn't help. It takes a while to get into the groove but it's oddly satisfying once it 'clicks.'
