I don't think Koei Tecmo will do any more Vita asian english releases going forward after skipping the last few titles. They're either saving those for LRG or they just didn't think it was worth it.

I hope you're wrong :(

I knew I was being too optimistic with a physical version. I thought Atelier Shallie might've opened a door, but I do recall Chin saying that Kiwami sold worse than they expected.

Balls. Maybe Asia will save the day. Or maybe we won't get it at all! Lol.

Doubt asia will happen. Either digital or nothing at this point.

Atelier Shallie because it is the only platform for that game. Firis is digital only on Vita right? No chance atelier firis will be digital but toukiden will be physical.

Yup.

I guess I just hoped with it being a series born on Vita and then showing that they are still capable of doing non-limited physical releases it had a chance. I suppose not.

I can't see LRG picking any of these up either. I know they love Vita, but they're not going to release a specific SKU where the others had physical. Rorona/Totori/Meruru/Ayesha are kinda different because they're expanded versions with DLC included and only available in that format on Vita, so I'm hoping they're possible (well, I know Rorona had PS3 release, but still).

They did mention Attack on Titan for the Vita once, I don't think it's off the table.

That whole situation was bizarre. It was happening then it wasn't then it was then it wasn't. Wonder what was up with that.

Nobunaga's Ambition also had a Play-Asia listing for the longest time so something must've been brewing there too.

Welcome back Fady, thanks for the roundup, looking forward to the 2017 thread. Maybe it's limited exposure on the front page might gain us some new members of this community.

So many Vita games I'm looking forward to next year after an awesome 2016, I wonder if 2017 will be the last year with a large amount of releases, or whether it can cling on even longer?

God Wars, Valkyria Revolution, Ys VIII, Ys Origin, Operation Babel, Salt & Sanctuary and Cosmic Star Heroine for me at the moment, amongst others.

Been a while Fady, thanks a lot for the updates brother. Hopefully next year I'll be able to get all the Vita games on my wishlist (will have no time to play them though smh).

Yeah, should probably say thanks to Fady for the most recent update, really nice work :)

It may have been another rollercoaster year for Vita and the console may be nearing its time, but it's certainly going out with a bang full of stuff I want for 2017 :)

There's absolutely NO WAY PS4 version makes it to 2017. Falcom share assets of their game AFTER Japanese launch and there should be at least 1 year between Japanese and North American releases of the game. That's probably why we still haven't heard of Tokyo Xanadu PS4 release in west.

I expect Vita/PC in 2017, PS4 in 2018.

I expect PS4 release originally dated for Q4 2017 by XSEED, but with the usual XSEED delay, it'll be released in Q2 2018. No Vita and no PC.

6 months after its Japanese release? Haha no way. This is Falcom. They won't change. "You want to localize our games? You'll do it when we say you can."

If we take "usual XSEED delay" into account then PS4 version should be around october-november 2018 release.

Er, the Vita version has been out for months. While Falcom wouldn't let them touch the ps4 version until it's out, nothing is stopping XSEED from working on the vita version. And since the vita version is 80-90% identical with the ps4 version both can release in 2017. It's not going to come out in late 2018 that's just ridiculous.

I don't think it's that easy. If it was Aksys would have announced Tokyo Xanadu PS4 too. Plus, localizing Vita version but not releasing it is shitty thing to do, even for XSEED.

That's different. When Aksys took on Tokyo Xanadu, the PS4 version didn't even exist yet / wasn't announced for Japan.

And XSEED isn't working on the Vita version or the PS4 version directly, they're just translating text files for the most part. And those are mostly identical. They can absolutely work on the Vita version and re-use that for the PS4 one.

I don't see why XSEED would skip Ys for Vita honestly. My bet is Q4 2017 for both as well. Maybe Jan/Feb 2018

Yeah, that's what I meant. Translating and VA recording is something they can already be working on. It'd speed up localizing the ps4 version immensely.

Great work Fady on the most recent update! Hope you and your family have a wonderful holidays :D!

Regarding Ys VIII's release in the west, I think we will get it next year. Considering the PS4 and Vita are identical content wise (I think?), they will not have to worry about significant differences between both versions on a localization level.

I do think we will see the lack of a physical release for Ys VIII in the west but at least it will come out on Vita.

I'm seeing no chatter about that on Twitter. That could mean nothing important happened ... or no one watched lol. I'm not interested in watching two hours of Acquire employees getting drunk to make sure.

I skimmed through it. They showed some of Akiba's Beat running on PC (lol); showed some of that Badman VR game and promoted the Akiba's Trip anime. Didn't see anything about Vita version.

Been playing through some games I plan on reviewing and really having fun.

Hue is a great time, as it's smart usage of color-based puzzles and strong visual presentation help the game stand out strongly. It is currently on sale for I think 5.99$ on NA PSN and my review on that will release this week on LatestVitaGames.

Axiom Verge is the Metroid game I have wanted to play since Prime 3; such a great time so far. Presentation is quite strong, love the touch screen button short-cuts for weapons and the level design screams Metroid. My only gripe is that the sound cuts off sometimes but entering/exiting a location fixes that. My review on this will release on 3WIREL this weekend hopefully.

Shantae I purchased last night (after failing to get a review copy from WayForward/XSEED) and I love the game so far. Runs shockingly well on Vita (stable 60FPS with mild slow-down at Mermaid Falls) and it feels great to play. Level design is quite strong and the usage of the dancing powers feels streamlined. Reminds me of 'Pirates Curse' a lot where they felt less like annoying 'forced' stop gaps and instead things that only help the pacing stay fast. Will be reviewing this on 3WIREL on Friday but will have a first impressions up tonight.

Based on the white button prompts, I think that was supposed to be the Vita version ... Did they think people wouldn't be smart enough to tell that video was coming from a laptop's Unity player?

I wonder if that means they haven't even started development on the Vita version. If that's the case, I don't see it ever coming out. Are my predictions going to go 3 for 3 on this game?

Great update Fady, really appreciate all your hard work on this topic keep it up!

I've so many games to look forward to in 2017, not to mention my huge backlog of games to finish. I think there ll be more announcements in coming months and 2017 will be a great year for Vita. Well after that we have got Switch so I'll keep rocking a on a handheld, hoping Nintendo doesn't screw up with something this time.

What is your most anticipated release for 2017?

I can't decide between Tokyo Xanadu/Summon Night 6/Danganronpa 3

For me it would be Tokyo Xanadu, Cosmic Star Heroine and the mainly visual novels coming out next year.

Alright, so, I'm getting a Vita for Christmas I need game recommendations. I should mention I'm already getting Persona 4 Golden, also genre does not matter to me I'm looking for anything.

I like to have those games on the go: Spelunky, Hotline Miami (2), OlliOlli (2), Lumines, Biding of Isaac, Steamworld games, Rogue Legacy. And a Musou game if you like those, I really like Pirate Warriors 3.

Also get Frobisher Says.

You've helped me twice now in this process thank you, I'll look into all of those games but I've already platinumed Gravity Rush on PS4

You're welcome. The strongest genres are JRPGs, visual novels and indie titles. If you like those, you're in for a treat.

I have no expectations for this to land on Vita, so if it actually happens I'll be pleasantly surprised. I would probably buy it because I like Tales and I didn't mind Akiba's Trip.

What is your most anticipated release for 2017?

Of announced games:

1. Tokyo Xanadu
2. DanganRonpa V3
3. Drift Stage
4. Atelier Shallie Plus
5. Collar x Malice
6. Caligula
7. Muv-Luv
8. Drifter
9. Narcissu
10. Ys Origin

That's just a top 10 among announced games. I'll probably buy a lot more than that in 2017 (likely some more otome; likely Sekai's other VN's; likely things like Operation Babel/Mary Skelter).

And if any of these get announced, they'd find their way into my top 10: Ys VIII; SaGa Scarlet Grace; Net High; Hero Must Die; Uppers; Chaos;Child; Demon Gaze 2; Eve Burst Error R.

I'm gonna do a Top 10 too:

1- Toukiden 2
2- Tokyo Xanadu
3- Danganronpa V3
4- Summon Night 6
5- Fate/Extella
6- Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana
7- Berserk and the Band of the Hawk
8- Blue Reflection
9- Valkyria Revolution
10- Akiba's Beat

...and a runner up:
11- God Wars Future Past

WEW. Does this mean physical might happen? or no confirmation
Really hard to say. It means the game is definitely coming in some form at least :)

For reference, Toukiden Kiwami (Vita physical) has ratings for both platforms and Samurai Warriors 4/4-II, Atelier Sophie, Attack on Titan (Vita digital only) only show the PS4 rating.

There does seem to be a pattern there

Good news. Either way will take digital only over nothing for sure. Doubt ill play this on PS4. Thanks.

That reminds me I gotta finish SW4-2 still on PS4. Im not opening the Vita copy until i get another physical or get it digitally lol.

Guess what popped up today on USK

Sorry for the premature doom and gloom

It would've been really bizarre for them to release God Seekers in English on Vita but not Toukiden 2. So far Vita has seen every KT localization from Omega Force. It's usually the smaller teams (Shibusawa Productions + Gust) that are dicey.

I have a list of games whose chances of localization of Vita version are in question:

- Dragon Quest Heroes II
- Sword Art Online x Accel World
- Night of Azure 2
- Blue Reflection
- Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana
- Itadaki Steet (I have a feeling that PS4 version will be localized)

Let's see how many of them we'll see here.

SAO is bound to happen as will Ys VIII as. The real questions are Night of Azure 2 and Blue Reflection. Both could skip Vita in the west like Night of Azure 1 did.

What is Collar x Malice?
It's a visual novel.

A terrorist organisation has been carrying out a series of murders and leaving a signature that counts down to some future date. Their latest crime was to kidnap a policewoman and lock her in a collar (mild and obvious spoiler)
that will kill her if she doesn't fulfill their demands
.
She's then inducted into a team that's investigating the crimes.

And it's an otome VN, so the blokes on the team are romanceable.

Haha, yay. I panicked too soon! I'd be shocked if there was actually a physical release, I wasn't hopeful for it at all.

I think:

- Night of Azure 2 NOPE but day one PC
- Blue Reflection Same as above
- Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana vita skipped for PS4 only
- Itadaki Steet (I have a feeling that PS4 version will be localized) NONE

Might as well throw SaGa Scarlet Grace on that list as well. Because it may come over, but there's no guarantee of Vita version.

It's funny. In the early years, I feel like Vita got very little "bigger Japanese publisher" support. Koei-tecmo were good and Bamco were average, but Square never cared for it etc. But it was propped up by smaller devs and you could rely on their games coming across because NISA or XSEED or whoever aren't going to pass on a Vita SKU because they make a living on small profits.

As time has gone on the smaller devs are still here but bigger devs have upped their game too - Square suddenly loved Vita for multiplies; Koei-tecmo put basically everything on it; Bamco went in with some bigger IP's. Which is great, but it's made localizations a lot more like guesswork because these bigger companies don't need the tiny margins of Vita versions. Which has made it much more of a rollercoaster.

(I know we had the kerfuffle with NISA and XSEED earlier this year, but that was a matter of them localising games, period. If they were bringing them, they're not ignoring Vita)

Yes, my GOTY is The House in Fata Morgana, available on Steam. Not only is it my GOTY 2016, but it's also one of the best stories I've seen on a game in my entire life. Everything from the soundtrack to the themes discussed in the game are stellar.

I bought a thing

Hi guys. Anyone had this error code before?

error c1-2752-6

I was playing Digimon when I wanted to save, I got a corrupted data message on save slot 3. Then everything got corrupted and I didn't even do anything. All save sfiles of 20+ hours gone. Now the game won't even launch...

I can't bring myself to replay the game but I am scared of starting up another game.

Thanks. An otome would have to be pretty good for me to jump in, especially with all the VNs already in my backlog.
