Maybe Gladio draws inspiration of the Spartans and likes to fight barechested lol.

Actually no, historical Spartan armors covers the chest area well. Only in that silly 300 movie where the men fights practically naked with a cape.

I found it pretty odd that there is not a single Hammerhead station in the entirety of Duscae/Cleigne.

That's a major oversight on their part.Really doesn't make sense in a world where travel is mostly by car.

Should have had multiple Hammerhead outposts in the world.Maybe even with Generic NPCs other than Cindy.

Its not like it would've been hard to do.Just copy past the assets and do some small variations.

I'm talking about these. The alleged employee came back and stated that Umbra (along with Cor, Aranea and Iris) were permanent party members in Nomura's game. Umbra being able to change forms while fighting like Link in Twilight Princess would have been an amazing mechanic if this is true.

No, I don't mean these. Never saw these before. I mean those from the "FFXV development troubles/Rumored Versus plot leaked" a week or so after release. They mentioned Umbra originally being a human that joined the cast. This coming from Ferrari is really giving that leak some legitimately, damn. It all sounded so plausible too. Especially of you beat the game and saw the "seams" at all the parts where stuff was apparently cut according to leak. Read them if you finished the game, they're super interesting!

I'm looking through that 4chan thread archived, where did he state Umbra was going to change forms?

I googled Roberto Ferrari devaintart and wow... the very first image that comes up with it was just....

Well, to be fair, that's the only "problematic" one, and I guess it's the first result for obvious reasons. The rest it's basically just Death by Degrees costumes (which is a... certain type of game) and '70s mechas. Pretty tame, all things considered.

There is exactly one (possibly three depending on your definition) sexualized image on the entirety of his DeviantArt account with a total of 38 images.

There's also a difference between drawing a sexualized image and being a pervert. What somebody likes to draw isn't necessarily indicative of the artist's personality. I'm not saying that he isn't a pervert, but using that piece of art as evidence (especially as it's one piece among 38) is unfair. It's especially unfair as you don't know what instructions Ferrari had when he designed Cindy.

Ferrari also designed Iris, Caetuna (who probably has one of the least sexualized designs in recent FF games ever), the council from Type-0 as well as a lot of other female characters that weren't sexualized or presented in a titilating way.

If you want to use Ferrari's art to decipher his personality, go ahead, but at least factor in that the overwhelming majority of his work on FF is not sexualized at all.

I can't remember what thread this was mentioned in but if I recall correctly Roberto's sister once said that Ardyn's face was based on Roberto's.

In principio mi vengono fornite alcune linee guida.

Apparently when Ferrari showed Ardyn's design to Nomura the latter told him it lacked something and needed to be more eccentric, so Ferrari added the black wing thing and then Nomura approved the design. (I don't speak Italian)

Apparently Ardyn was based on Johnny Depp too

That's funny because the wing is the only thing I don't like!

"What is it?"
"It's a wing-thing"
"Yeah but like what is it supposed to be, a shield?"
"I dunno"
"...it's perfect."

Why am I not surprised Nomura is the reason Ardyn is my least favorite design and looks like a fucking idiot. He doesn't look eccentric, he just looks stupid. In a Suicide Squad, try hard Joker, kind of way

(I don't speak Italian)

I do, so I'll provide some shitty translations.

Initially I am given some guidelines. From those few lines we throw down some few ideas with little details: sketches possibly differing from each others.
You show them to the Art-Director and he chooses the most fitting to what was imagined when the story was written.
Sometimes, during the meetings, you receive some comments which help you understand something more about the character.
For example Ardyn: when I showed him to Nomura-san he said to me: "He's missing something... I'd need something more eccentric...".

The next week I came back with the same design but with a wing on one of Ardyn's arm also thinking that he would have had to transform toward the end...
Inserting this detail I got the OK!

I was asked to make him look similar to Johnny Depp but as you can see I moved away from that and it was accepted anyways ;-)
I had to put something eccentric on him and I took inspiration from a book on the Kachina Dolls, the indian statuettes.

Ha! Always thought the wing-shield-thing was the dumbest part of his costume -- thanks, Nomura!

So basically Ardyn was meant to transform. That gives the 4chan leak even more legitimacy.

Who is still in denial about the leak?

While I think the leak is real, it's not really a huge jump to guess that Ardyn could transform as a villain. Most FFs have end bosses that turn huge and grotesque.

Huh? How are you taking "thinking that he would have had to transform toward the end" as confirmation?

You are aware that's just Ferrari's assumption, right?

Maybe that's where the Umbra art came from? Do the Ultimanias usually contain cut content?

Some of them do, but I remember that most cut stuff from Type-0 was actually in the proper artbook and not in the Ultimania.

While you are right that the wording implies that he just thought that Ardyn would eventually transform, he also said that he was given the script and character guidelines for him. He would not need to assume anything as Ardyn becoming a demon would have been explained in those documents.

That completely depends on your interpretation of the translated line. The context of the line makes it look like the design was OK'd by Nomura exactly because his transformed version would have included one or more wings anyway.

A story doesn't need to have a beginning and end
Um. Yes it does?

, it also has a lot of interactions in between that make it memorable. They need to create scenarios that make the game fun, work on building character relations and background and much more.
I kind of see what you mean, in that the individual scenes and interactions between characters and the world building matter just as much, if not more, than the main plot arc, but to say "it doesn't need a beginning and end" is just going way too far. Of course it needs a coherent plot too.

But well if that's how video game writers really think, it sure would explain a lot...

Were people this mad about FFVII having a brothel/hookers back in the day?
No, why would they? The brothel actually had a plot purpose, and served for some pretty iconic (and humorous) scenes.

Ohhh I get it, you think this is about prudishness, right?

Despite being "shitty" I actually no problems understanding it.....unlike 90% of the translations in the OP, which were so hard to read.

Could you do me a favor and re-translate all of Ferrari's post? kthx

Just kidding. I think you have more important things to do. lol

The OP's were Google Translations.

Philippo already retranslated the quotes in the OP, but I don't remember which page that was.

Gladio is treated like a character with some respect that also has some fanservice that is appropriately applied. Cindy is just tits and ass dude. That's how the game treats her.

She has a story that isn't just Tits and ass. We don't know Gladios story because they want to sell it to you piecemeal. Lots of respect there.

I think the point was, that Hammerhead is a unique family business and not a big chain like the Coernix stations or Kenny Crow diners.
Hammerhead, similar to Cape Caem later on, felt as a safe haven where you find your friends and allies. Other Hammerheads, with generic NPCs even, would water down that effect.

more Aranea:
There are other designs Aranea. Because the armor was complex I had to share the drawings by degrees.
That complete with wings and helmet with tail is the last degree, but it is always mine.
The only variation in Aranea are the long codpieces. ^^

I just drew the characters. As for Aranea, I remember I had the chance to take a look at one of the original model's screenshots to make some adjustments (this happened for the first adaptation of Ardyn too).

Aranea is supposed to have very abudant breasts, but the one created by the modeler had some space between one breast and the other, which created a "fake boobs" kind of look. I asked them if I could make the breasts closer to each other, so they could look softer and more natural.

I also made adjustments on her make-up. However, when Nomura-san supervised my work, he decided to apply further variations: for instance, he turned the orange lipstick I chose for her into a red one.

I wrote it wrong. What I meant to say was that a video game story doesn't really only need a beginning and ending for basic story, it is the world building and character interaction that makes it important.

In the case of FFXV, the world building and character interaction was great for me which paid off in the ending. The beginning was flat and the basic story felt severely lacking in details, but if we put together all the pieces, it sounded good to me. I liked it for what it is worth.

Same here, I wish the game could be better, but I'm really happy with how it turned out. It also helps that I have followed the development since 2006 and knew how much of a production hell it went through, so it was a miracle it turned out as good as it is now.

I have spent probably 120 hours on the game and don't see myself stopping yet. Looking forward to the DLC and further patches down the road and think it's 90 dollars (+ season pass) well spent.

He really is pretty bad. I'm not even very big on Nomura (most of his post-FFX art feels really phoned-in to me), but I'm shocked he seems to actually think this guy is at his level or close to it. It's a miracle his XV characters look as solid as they do, Cindy being the exception. Should've left her on DeviantArt where she belongs.

In one of the comments on his page he confirms he's nothing to do with XVI because he's already working on VII R. I'm sure many will be pleased. So, I guess what I myself said in the first page is not relevant.

I can't believe some people are still crying over Cindy clothes... what do the same people think about Gladio ? Can't wait to read double standard stuff.
