HDMI > Vga and HDMI > Component is not possible in a cable.

You need an "active" adapter, one with a powered box.

Yeah, active adapters are a lot more expensive than regular ones.

DVI and HDMI are both digital so try that.

I've had to use a HDMI to DVI cable for my PS3 for a long time. Same concept as what you have, just an uograded end piece. I won't be home from work for another 9 hours or so, but I can test my PS4 with my hdmi to dvi cable if you like. Or just order one, but be warned that if you do, you will need to THEN get a separate audio output solution - I have a box that I plus the optical signal in and I get RCA outputs. I've pretty done your exact scenario many times over in various ways.

Edit -Typos galore - quickly typing out on a break. Will be back for more soon

the ps4 only outputs a digital signal

component and vga are analog cables

are you sure? i am reading in PS forum some people managed to connect regular PS4 to monitor using VGA.

also i think a dvi to hdmi cable might work

You have audio covered, good, then the video is the only prob left. I game on pc monitors, and at the time the one I had was old, and dvi cable was all I could do to actually play the dam thing. It worked beautifully. I still use it for my PS3, but my 4 is hooked up via hdmi at the moment. I don't see why it wouldn't work on the 4, though. I edited my original post with a link to the exact cable I bought so many years ago

Depending on where you live local computer stores might have one

I don't know what your $$ situation is like OP but if you are in the USA you can get a pretty cheap 40-50" 4k TV, I bought a Samsung 6300 for $350 during black friday at Sam's Club (630D model at costco/sams club) or for example a Hisense 55" for $499

might be easier/better than buying a bunch of new cables and active adapters and stuff. A 40-50" TV is relatively small and easily fits in the back seat of any car. There will probably be even better deals real soon, as CES in is 10 days (new 2017 models) and Superbowl sales will be in a month.
