Known for: Disgaea series, Hayarigami series, etc.
Favorite title of 2016: Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse
“Nippon Ichi Software will deliver various content from Gifu Prefecture to the world. In 2017 as well, we will actively launch new IP in the consumer game market. But it doesn’t end there. We will steadily take on new initiatives. We also have Nintendo Switch project(s), so please look forward to that. (There has been some skepticism about our company’s participation, but…. we’re in proper development!)”

There you have another developer confirms they are working on Switch.

But they're already in the list of developers/partners revealed in October, there's nothing new here (also, they already expressed interest for the Switch in the past, even before the Switch reveal... definitely not something they dedicded out of the blue).

I did find it kind of funny how he mentions skepticism. It'll be interesting to see what their actual plan is though...

Disgaea D2 port incoming?
they're probably not porting it to Vita
I don't mind but I would like either a new D2 or a new numbered title.

I actually think if they're taking it seriously they'll start with Disgaea 5. I didn't do too well in Japan and they said they can't port it to Vita so it would be a good idea to get a portable version out there.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
This was known already (their logo is on the right next to Maximum Games).

This news implies that they have multiple games in work for Switch - so even at worst case it will be more than a couple of years old Disgaea port.

It's also notable that the President thought it was the most important thing to mention for 2017. It means it's (hopefully/probably) a focus for them.

Considering the number of games they release on Vita this isn't surprising. I can see them going Vita/Switch for a lot of them or even Vita/Switch/PS4.

A large contingent of GAF seems to believe this list is a ruse.
I can believe that as Konami is on that list.
No but really, why? This is an official Nintendo issued image, and it's really not that spectacular or unbelieveable when it comes to the names that are being listed there.

It's not so much as a ruse, but many think that half of this list has nothing that will end up releasing for the Switch by 2017.

The burn wounds remain for some Nintendo fans for the past 4 years...

I understand being a tad skeptical, but the list seems perfectly reasonable, even for modern Nintendo.

Yeah, already confirmed in the card, but I guess it's nice to have 2x confirmation. I think the only name missing off that developer card that I want to be there is Falcom, but they have a strong history with PC + PS ports, so not surprising.

Well, they could be working on stuff that may end up releasing later than 2017. Or that could simply be cancelled if the console isn't successful enough.

But at this point, there's something we can be sure about : all of them have devkits and are working with them on projects.

Konami still publishes a few games(PES). They recently published Powapro on 3DS in Japan and licensed Momotaro Dentetsu to Nintendo.

Compile Heart and Gust are two others in that group. Whether they'll make Switch games remains to be seen though.

Falcom I highly doubt it, and here's why.

Falcom couldn't have been bothered to self-publish Gurumin 3D in Japan, they instead gave it to FlyHigh Works. And this is a company that publishes ALL of their games on Sony hardware in Japan. Mastiff were the ones to get the game off the ground, and got Opus and iNPLAS to do the port.

Yeah.

They're also still okay with releasing VC titles. Though admittedly, it isn't much in comparison to other companies.

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
Switch will be the premiere system to put handheld exclusive titles on in the future, I wouldn't be surprised if every dev in Japan has a devkit by now

Yeah.
Falcom sublicenses their PS stuff too. Kadokawa on Trails Trilogy Evo, Dotemu on Ys Origin, they really only self-publish the stuff they do inhouse.

That said I also doubt we see them on Switch. I recall Kondo beind not too fond of Nintendo in general. They'd probably go mobile only first.

Wouldn't they be liable for some sort of fraud if this list wasn't true? I mean, RecoChoku and a bunch of other middleware and service partners at the bottom can't truly be that unbelievable.

By the way, yes, those bottom two rows of developers are for engines and middleware development. The pure game development list is from 505 Games to WB Interactive Entertainment. This is also signified because of the reset in terms of alphabetical order.

Please develop Disgaea for the Switch.

And we already know how those list work in the end when it comes to Nintendo systems :p

I certainly don't know. Was there an example of listed developers on promotional material for Nintendo console that ended up didn't release a game for that console? I can't think of one.

NIS was that "A company is making Switch games in addition to PS4" developer that people somehow thought was news.

Well it depends to what degree they're doing it. If they are going all in on Switch that is pretty big news considering they have rarely stepped outside of the Sony bubble.

It's a bit disappointing if they're the only ones doing Switch/PS4 development

That video showing developers (Ken Levine, Kojima) talking about Wii U was certainly promotional IMO.

Oh yeah for sure, I agree with both of you. I'm just saying are just extremely skeptical.

I believe most of these guys will stick though.

It's reasonable since the Switch is the follow up to the 3DS, and Vita is not likely to get a successor. Most of the Japanese companies on the list supported Vita and go where the Japanese market is, and all signs point to the Switch being big for Japan. I can get being skeptical about, say, EA or Activision having noteworthy support, but for the Japanese companies Switch is likely a must if they want to survive in their domestic market.
