It was only NepReb1 where NA got a physical release that EU didn't. Ever since then, if NA gets a physical release from IFI, so does EU.

Might as well plug myself in here. I wrote an article about the state of Vita in 2016 and where it'll be in 2017. It's optimistic, sure, but I enjoyed writing it:

https://kresnik258gaming.wordpress....a-in-2016-and-thoughts-on-the-future-in-2017/

I also finished my review of Jak & Daxter for Vita. tl;dr - it's still a fantastic game in spite of the fact that the early chapters run like crap; performance evens out towards the end:

That was a great write-up of the current situation for the Vita heading into 2017, thanks for that!

Have Sony discontinued Vita? I have been on a hunt for a new one for the last 2 months and can't find new one in a store.

The post on Gematsu about Japanese creators and their 2017 plans got updated. Here are some of the more interesting ones:

“We were finally able to release a new SaGa title in 2016… While I can’t make an announcement yet, I think everyone will be able to enjoy the SaGa series next year, too.

“On January 12, 2017, we will release Danganronpa V3, which we’ve devoted all of our energy to. I want to challenge a new title in the 11 months that follow, so continue to pay attention to Spike Chunsoft.”

“This year, we were able to successfully release Coven and Labyrinth of Refrain, and are very grateful to have received good reviews beyond our expectations. While it may not be an ambition for 2017… but the feeling of ‘Can we make a sequel for this?’ is lingering about the company, if there are people who want a sequel, if you write a short survey card for us we’ll be closer to its realization. I’d like to make a sequel if we can.”

“Nippon Ichi Software will deliver various content from Gifu Prefecture to the world. In 2017 as well, we will actively launch new IP in the consumer game market. But it doesn’t end there. We will steadily take on new initiatives. We also have Nintendo Switch project(s), so please look forward to that. (There has been some skepticism about our company’s participation, but…. we’re in proper development!)”

Hajime Chikami, Representative Director & Producer at Experience

Known for: Demon Gaze series, Stranger of Sword City series, Operation Abyss and Operation Babel, Ray Gigant
Favorite title of 2016: Persona 5

“With titles like Yomi wo Haku Sana and HRV (project name), we will challenge genres outside of the dungeon RPGs we’re known for, and I’m considering putting on a new dungeon RPG for our core users.”

Went through and picked out the shout-outs I thought might relate to Vita (sad, I know). Apparently "home console" in this context means "not mobile".

Also, on second thought about SaGa, it might be Romancing SaGa 3 remake:

Norihisa Kochiwa, Game Development Department Boss at Compile Heart
Known for: Neptune series, Genkai Tokki series, Mary Skelter: Nightmares, Gun Gun Pixies, Otomate brand
Favorite title of 2016: Final Fantasy XV

“In 2017, we will release Four Goddesses Online: Cyber Dimension Neptune for PlayStation 4 and Gun Gun Pixies for PS Vita. Both of them are charming with cute characters and 3D action. From there, we’re preparing a new RPG. We’re incorporating new things, so please look forward to the announcement.”

Update on Sekai Project's console ports.

tl;dr - Fault Milestone One and Root Double are the first two games to release, more to follow.

They're adding a new score and new UI to Fault Milestone.

Surprise announcements promised.

Root Double? Yes! Fault Milestone One is supposed to be Q2 2017 according to the LRG folk, so I guess it's not that soon.

Edit: article implies Q1, yes!

Fady's back...back again...

You should add The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth DLC to your 2017 thread buddy. Ed confirmed it's still coming, hopefully early next year.

Hi Dangerblade, thanks for the info, I have added it with this pic :)

TO6OcRel.jpg

Welcome back Fady, thanks for the roundup, looking forward to the 2017 thread. Maybe it's limited exposure on the front page might gain us some new members of this community.

So many Vita games I'm looking forward to next year after an awesome 2016, I wonder if 2017 will be the last year with a large amount of releases, or whether it can cling on even longer?

God Wars, Valkyria Revolution, Ys VIII, Ys Origin, Operation Babel, Salt & Sanctuary and Cosmic Star Heroine for me at the moment, amongst others.

Thanks buddy! Indeed - some exposure on the main forum will help a lot of Vita owners or, perhaps, would-be Vita owners (if the poor guys can find a unit to buy :/).

Regardless of what happens, be sure that the vita thread will keep going until the last rounds of games releases for it, God willing. Despite how sad that may be in the future, we can at least go back to beating what I'd imagine to be a countless number of games on the system from our backlog.

From your list, I am particularly curious about playing the handheld version of Salt & Sanctuary. 2017 thread will be published in a couple of days btw ;D

Been a while Fady, thanks a lot for the updates brother. Hopefully next year I'll be able to get all the Vita games on my wishlist (will have no time to play them though smh).

You are always most welcome friend! Keep an eye out for the 2017 thread on the main forum in the next couple of days ;D

Yeah, should probably say thanks to Fady for the most recent update, really nice work :)

It may have been another rollercoaster year for Vita and the console may be nearing its time, but it's certainly going out with a bang full of stuff I want for 2017 :)

Many thanks Krsenik! Enjoy the latest update and I hope to see you in the 2017 thread when it is published in a couple of days. Many things to look forward to in 2017, and even beyond that we can be sure that we'll mostly have plenty of games from our Vita backlog to play and beat.

Great work Fady on the most recent update! Hope you and your family have a wonderful holidays :D!

Regarding Ys VIII's release in the west, I think we will get it next year. Considering the PS4 and Vita are identical content wise (I think?), they will not have to worry about significant differences between both versions on a localization level.

I do think we will see the lack of a physical release for Ys VIII in the west but at least it will come out on Vita.

Thanks very much friend! Wishing you and your family the same. I expect Ys next year as well, by the summer period. The PS4 version unfortunately has some big extras based on what I read, but hopefully the Vita version will be respectable on its own. Enjoy the update and stay tuned for the 2017 Vita thread in the next 2 days.

Great update Fady, really appreciate all your hard work on this topic keep it up!

I've so many games to look forward to in 2017, not to mention my huge backlog of games to finish. I think there ll be more announcements in coming months and 2017 will be a great year for Vita. Well after that we have got Switch so I'll keep rocking a on a handheld, hoping Nintendo doesn't screw up with something this time.

What is your most anticipated release for 2017?

I can't decide between Tokyo Xanadu/Summon Night 6/Danganronpa 3

Thank you for the kind words Powwa ^_^ Enjoy today's update and stay tuned for the 2017 thread, will post the link here when it is up!

I too have an insane Vita backlog to go through! So many quality titles to enjoy :D I even have a decent number of PSP games I still want to play and finish! I think Nintendo will do just fine on the Switch; they may even release a dedicated handheld separately to that.

As for my most anticipated games for 2017 - despite not playing the series yet, I look forward to having the 3rd game in the Danganronpa series as I look forward to playing all of them on my Vita. As a Castlevania nut, I am also very excited for Bloodstained (though that may be a 2018 title). Lastly, as a horror gaming fan, I am excited about Night Cry despite the lukewarm reception it got for its PC version.

https://twitter.com/Jfmaj0r/statuses/812330970074542080

Mercenary Kings still coming to Vita apparently:

C0X6qprWQAIuIkn.jpg

Ok THAT is nuts. Never expected that.

This and Shin Hayarigami would make my year.

I need this series in English already.

2017 thread later this week?

Merry Christmas GAF Vitabros. Have a great day even if your not celebratin'

In 2 days hopefully, enjoy 2016's last update in the meantime ;D

Just found this compilation of Vita visual novels for the next year at r/Vita:

A couple big titles to look forward to:

- Zero Escape: The Nonary Games -- two titles in one: a revamped 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors + Virtue's Last Reward -- visual novels that include lots of puzzle solving
- Dangan Ronpa V3: Killing Harmony -- supposedly a sort of relaunch for the franchise -- visual novel with a strong mystery-solving aspect + courtroom gameplay

Potentially five otome will release in 2017 (the first four from Aksys, the fifth from Idea Factory):

- Bad Apple Wars -- takes place in an "academy for the souls of bad students"
- Period Cube -- takes place in an MMO game fantasy world
- Collar x Malice -- about a police officer investigating a violent case in Shinjuku
- Code Realize: Future Blessings -- a "fan disc" for the previously released Code Realize: Guardians of Rebirth (ie supplemental material such as epilogue stories and new routes)
- Hakuoki: Kyoto Winds -- an updated re-release for Hakuoki (which had an English release for PSP), a story set in 19th century Kyoto

Hopefully some of these titles from Sekai Project will release next year:

- Fault Milestone One -- out on Steam -- fantasy story about a princess and her royal guard -- Limited Run physical release
- Root Double: Before Crime After Days -- out on Steam -- sci-fi adventure story involving a nuclear meltdown
- Narcissu 10th Anniversary Anthology -- out on Steam -- drama story about terminal illness -- Limited Run physical release
- World End Economica -- out on Steam -- story set in the future about the stock market -- Limited Run physical release
- The Grisaia Trilogy -- out on Steam -- high school story involving a cast of unusual girls -- (any updates on this one lately?)

Some other titles to keep an eye on:

- Muv Luv + Muv Luv Alternative -- Muv Luv is on Steam -- first game is a high school romcom, second game is a darker mecha adventure
- Sharin no Kuni -- drama/romance in a dystopian setting -- just recently Kickstarted, so maybe a 2018 release
- VA11 Hall-A -- out on Steam -- cyberpunk bartender action... it's great
- Quantum Suicide -- a betrayal/murder game set in space
- Exogenesis: Perils of Rebirth -- post-apocalyptic adventure

Of course, things might not work out for all of these, but I think there will be enough releases to keep VN fans reading on their Vitas for plenty of hours next year. Let me know if I've forgotten a title, and I'll add it to this post.

Edit -- Games that are rumored:

- Clannad -- this was shown at Tokyo Game Show in English, but no announcements about it have been made yet
- Chaos;Child -- hinted at being a release from PQube Games for a while now, but no announcements yet

The only one that they've missed at the last section is Net High and the list is perfect.

Root Double? Yes! Fault Milestone One is supposed to be Q2 2017 according to the LRG folk, so I guess it's not that soon.

Edit: article implies Q1, yes!

Did they actually ever confirm whether Root Double will be released on EU PSN or only in the US?

It is true because I've been getting the same answers. Let's not forget we're talking about Portugal here where the Vita actually did very well all things considered, so if it's discontinued here the same probably applies to the rest of Europe.

I had similar replies from electronics stores in Germany when I tried to get a charger cable for an older Vita model. They didn't say "discontinued", just that Sony hasn't sent them new stock in months. They didn't seem too fussed about it, probably not worth stocking anymore anyway.

The list of VN and Otome stuff that Shizuka posted seems excellent though, let's hope my Vita survives 2017 intact (really need to buy a proper casing for the poor thing).

Also thanks to Fady K for this thread. :3

Bought Exist Archive for PS4 and PS Vita lately from Amazon US and just played both versions. I'm surprised how good the Vita version runs in the first hour. Clearly there is a drop at the framerate from 60 to 30 but besides that it runs great so far. Did not expect that.

I hope you like crashes because they're practically a common occurrence in the game.

Not to contradict this, since I know they happen pretty frequently for most, but I played 30 hours and never had a crash but I DID have tons of graphical glitches.

Yeah, I heard that. And I got a lot of them playing the Atelier games on my Vita. Nothing for Exist Archive so far though. Fingers crossed.

They seem to happen most often when there's a lot of going on in battles. On vita at least. Not sure about the ps4 version.

Haven't encountered any graphical glitches yet though.

Really? I didn't have a single crash in Rorona/Totori/Meruru. Guess I just got lucky.

I did have a hard crash in Trillion last night though.

It's really strange. A friend of mine had none too. But I also heard of others they had many crashes, so no idea what's going on there. Hopefully I have more luck with Exist Archive. Looks good so far.

Pretty good month for Vitacats on PS+ next month. The Swindle, Day of the Tentacle and Titan Souls.

The Swindle is one of my most-played indies on the Vita, its perfect as a portable game, part stealth, part platformer. Based around a series of 2D heists in steampunk London. Really has that 'one more run' feeling.

Maybe he meant Sony plans on keeping quiet about Vita being discontinued until 2018!

Ha.

I have wondered whether the low stock at the moment is just that Sony were re-purposing their production lines for PS4 Pro/PS4 Slim/PSVR and there's a chance for new shipments next year. But I feel that's a fairly long shot.

Either that or retailers just don't want to stock them. You just have to buy online.

Are you talking about importing one? Because is not cheap to import a Vita from Japan. Every GameStop and online store has been out of stock in Sweden long before Christmas. Have tried to buy one for a while now. And Amazon stock seems to be running out too in other countries. In my eyes there are few possibility.
- Could be just stock issues.
- Bad news: Sony has decided to discontinue the Vita in Europe.
- Good news: Sony has decided to release a new model but it got pulled for several reasons. Did not make sense to have in the PS4 Pro event. Nintendo announced the Switch.

Either way someone should look into the reason there is stock issues? There could be a new revision on the way.
