Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite Characters and Stages Roster Discussion Thread

wait I thought that interview list was characters considered for 3, not infinite.

Yes, it's. The reason why people were talking about DLC for Infinite because of the rumor. There is a rumor that X-Men and Fantastic 4 characters wouldn't be available on base roster, so apparently they would allow X-Men and Fantastic Four characters to get in MVCI via DLC.

I'm sure a lot of characters were discussed, much more than we think. He's most likely naming off the ones that stick out.

Given the reasoning that was given for Ghost Rider not being included in vanilla MvC3, I think its best to take any reasoning with a grain of salt. I'm fairly sure some characters weren't included because they just weren't, and didn't have any real reason for not being included other than time constraints really or that the team just never really thought about it. That and the fact that its a different team handling the game now.

Reading the reason why she didn't make it in 3 or Ultimate... that's BS lol, she should have been the rival of Strider. Two ninjas in a roster of over 40 characters isn't a problem IMHO.

Yeah, I'll wait for her as DLC. Hopefully she has a chance

I should reiterate (or clarify if I hadn't before) that all the translation (from google, so already its suspect) I could get out of it was something to do with Flying Dragon (Hiryu) being "lost enough", whatever that means. Apparently someone else (on a different forum) said it had to do with voice issues?

If the producer came up to you and asked for three characters from each side, but only one of those three are guaranteed and they others most likely won't make it, who would they be?

Mine would be:

Capcom

The Arisen from Dragon's Dogma
Nilin from Remember Me
Nina from Breath of Fire

Marvel

Songbird
Medusa
Wasp

I'm not sure if I would take that kind of risk for any of my favorites.

I'd love all three so bad. Though, for a MH rep, if they could work out a Rathalos being playable, that'd be the best.

He's probably too big though. Like, too-Ridley-big.
Shrink him down a bit, it's not like all the other characters are in scale. Plus, small Rathalos exist, just look at Monster Hunter Stories.

Unless it's somebody like Galactus, I wouldn't say size is as big an issue here as it in Smash Bros, which is a platform-based fighter.

I'm always seeing a generic hunter as the request for an MH rep, but that kinda goes against what we've been told in the past.

http://www.siliconera.com/2011/03/1...-didnt-want-the-hunter-in-marvel-vs-capcom-3/

Considering its popularity, I was surprised Monster Hunter didn’t make it into Marvel vs. Capcom 3 in some way.

Certainly they were on the list and we actually made a proposal to the Monster Hunter team and producer. The answer I believe came back was no. You don’t just have to have the idea to have the character. You also have to get permission from the producer of that series to include the character and however they are implemented. They thought it wasn’t a good fit for the game and maybe they’re right. The hunter is sort of a malleable personality, rather than a super strong character in Monster Hunter since he’s so customizable.

From there where do you go? Like a Felyne? A Poogie? I don’t know. A Lagiacrus or something like that. I don’t know what you’re going to put in there from Monster Hunter. So, anyway it didn’t work out. They’re just too cool for us.

I don't know if they've ever said why there was never an MH rep in Smash, or if it's just the same reason. I don't personally agree and I think they could easily do something cool with the character, but they said it not me.

Regardless, there's nothing stopping them from using a giant character or even just one of the smaller monsters. I'd be really surprised if MH misses this entry though, it's grown in popularity in the West and of course it's been pretty essential to Capcom's continued existence lately.

If they choose a smaller monster, it will 100% guaranteed be Yian Kut-Ku. Hugely popular with the fandom and was there since the start of the series.

Worst-case scenario, they can pull a TvC & have giant characters take up both character slots on your team.

Never again, lol.

Sentinel and Nemesis in (U)MVC3 show that you can do bigger sized characters in fighting games like these without having to resort to whatever the hell TVC did.

What's cool with MH monster would be the alt costume potential. I.e. the Rathalos with Rathian and other wyvern costumes, the Yian Kut-ku could have several of the subspecies of bird wyverns as an alt. Like Qurupeco, etc.

Capcom
PTX40-A from Lost Planet
Firebrand/Red Arremer from the GnG and Gargoyle's Quest series
Franziska von Karma from Ace Attorney

Marvel
Cloak & Dagger
Warwolf
Monica Rambeau

Runnerup is reworked Spiral.

Well I'd cheat that producer with my picks, mainly for the capcom side. DC Gonna get a rep come hell or high water.

Capcom:
Regina
Dylan
Gail

Marvel:
Howard the Duck
Devil Dinosaur
A not a clone war machine

So the same reason why we didn't get any Sengoku Basara representation in UMvC3.

Is it possible that since this is being worked on internally at Capcom this time, Capcom can just override some of the producers opinions and put Monster Hunter and Sengoku Basara characters anyway?

I don't think so. Capcom doesn't seem to wanna step on toes at their offices like that. Which is both a good and bad thing. Good that the groups can have a bit of creative control, bad for fans. Well that and bullshit reasons those groups can give. Like the whole "we don't want one face for MH". Even though they've used one armor type numerous times until switching and the like.

None of us know, but I sure hope so.

Date Masamune would look way cool. Just imagining his armor rendered in the MvCi engine has me drooling (not literally...Okay maybe literally).

Kut-Ku is also one of the only monsters as iconic as Rathalos so he does make sense. I'm trying not to come off as a broken record with my Rajang suggestion but he'd really be perfect. He also got a lot more spotlight in 4th gen as that game's Surprise Motherfucker.

But if we're going giant then Gore Magala could have all kinds of fun mechanics, from the virus to transformations. It's also one of the most visually interesting and coolest animated monsters ever with TWO god tier battle themes.

Niitsuma stuff from before, but better translated:

- Nova: Had been strongly pushed by Marvel since Vanilla MVC3. "He's required for the next version" we were told.

- Ghost Rider: He was indeed popular/well-known. We saw that the "motorcycle issue", could be compromised by including it in his move set.

- Doctor Strange: Pushed super hard by Marvel. We thought we'd be able to make him unique as a "magic" user - he was really fun to work on.

- Rocket Raccoon:We were actually feeling out Squirrel Girl at the same time, but the Raccoon army beat out the Squirrel army in the office.

- Blade: Too many components that would've come from Dante I think...

- Spider-Woman: The flying and electricity would've been too similar to Trish...

- Psylocke: Well-known, good design, and having Strider as a rival would've been interesting - but the fans' voices just weren't loud enough.

- Spiral: From the previous title. Creating a fencer with 6 arms plus magic would've been crazy hard - please forgive me!

- Cloak and Dagger: Has a huge aesthetic impact, and if we treated it like a stand from Jojo's it would definitely be interesting! But in a mirror match w/assists, you'd have absolutely no idea what was happening on the screen. And I mean, double the work, no way!

- Multiple Man: Like I said - workload.

The "fans' voices just weren't loud enough" for Psylocke sounds like horse shit, though.

Marvel
Super-Adaptoid
Ghost
Stegron the Dinosaur Man

Capcom
Gemini Man
Crash Man
Pharaoh Man

Since they have no chance, I don't mind it if four of them get axed, but it'd be cool if any could get in.

Edit: Regarding Monster Hunter, I feel Lute's the most likely character at this point, but who knows. Rathalos and Yian Kut-Ku would be the most likely monsters, though they probably wouldn't have alternate costumes that would turn them into other monsters (outside of Rathian for Rathalos and maybe Yian Garuga for Kut-Ku, but that's pushing it) but rather just have alternate colors based off of subspecies.

How well did Monster Hunter Stories even do? It's not a mainline series so I'm not sure representation would even be up for considering...though it does have a currently running anime.

I hadn't actually looked at the sales, though it appears to be a little over 250k

I suppose that's not all that great, but still I think Lute's likely since Capcom is pushing the spin off pretty hard, and it does sort of satisfy the original issue of not having an actual hunter character.

Someone thank Fubarduck for doing this. It makes a lot more sense now.

I wonder if "not loud enough" was "not loud enough for Marvel to agree to put a mutant into the Ultimate/DLC roster."

I don't really know if Blade would play similarly to Dante. Have we talked about how Blade would presumably work in a Marvel game?

Prolly means in the company, since he mentioned that basically more people wanted to do rocket than SG.

Well, he'd be too much like dante and deadpool since he'd use guns and swords, that's pretty much how he played in ultimate alliance.

At this point I almost expect RE2make to be a RE4 style game. Fully expect the announcement is gonna piss a certain group off.

EDIT: hella posted in the wrong thread

Any fun little character specific mechanics anyone want to see?

Phoenix Wright had the Evidence system, Frank had the Lvl up system, and of course the Dark Phoenix transformation. I'd like to see what could be possible in Infinite.

Gore Magala would be my favorite choice. Love that monster so much. And imagine a transformation into Chaotic Gore Magala or Shagaru Magala.

Rajang is also a sweet choice; I could imagine it just being so brutal. Level 3 could be the spirit bomb from Frontier, or summoning Deviljho to fight and pounding the opponent to paste as they're caught in the middle.

My pipe dream:

I would like The Arisen with two pawns as "assists" for special attacks. So it'd basically be like a Marvel 3 team in one character. The Arisen himself will be a default Fighter with a sword and shield; and the pawns will be one Strider and one Mage. Super level one permanently class changes the Strider into a ranger, super level two permanently class changes the Mage into a sorcerer, and super level three permanently class changes the Arisen into a warrior.

Hah.

I'm fine with Frank's leveling staying, if needing some tweaks to fit in a 2v2 No Assists game, but I hope Phoenix Wright doesn't have his Evidence thing anymore. It made him borderline unplayable.

If Turnabout Mode was permanent it would have been alright.
