I have a problem where addons seems to not properly sync. Some addons that I have removed in one computer keeps coming back when I start Chrome in another computer making them return to the first computer. Maybe it's better in v47. Going to try this release now

Does Google Chrome cause anyone else's laptop to constantly turn the fan on?

CPU usage spikes to about 30% (randomly it seems) and my fans is constantly turning on and off.

I updated to the latest release build and it was the same thing, I'm currently on beta:
Version 48.0.2564.82 beta-m (64-bit)

Same thing.

Extensions are:
-Imagus 0.9.8.33
-Page Notes 2.4.7
-uBlock 0.9.5.0

For me it's switch tabs, fans rev up.

Just got an update that made all my extensions show up in the menu bar and I had to remove them manually and now they always show up in the hotdog menu, not sure why they did this.

Does anyone know of a lightweight and secure speed dial extension? The algorithm that the default new tab page uses for the sites it displays isn't very good and I wish I could customize it more and add more rows.

The top several extensions on the Chrome app store look resource heavy and shady as far as collecting and selling browsing data.

Hi.

How can I sign out of from my chrome browser everywhere? I think I'm signed in on some computer at work (don't know which).

Because most people don't even know they have extensions installed, and extensions are the source of many browser instablities, bugs, and even malware. By surfacing the extensions many people will find out they have a bunch that they don't want, didn't know were installed, and didn't put there themselves.

Idiot-proofing really sucks for people who aren't idiots.

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
I guess it's good that Google is always tweaking things to try and improve them, but the new settings popout is really annoying. So, once again I'm asking if there's anyway to just see the old menu, expecting the answer to be no. Here's what it looks like now:

Chrome_Menu.png

Three rows here are of no use to me and are just getting in my way:
The plugins bar
The zoom bar
The Edit bar, with copy, paste, etc.

My web security updated today so I needed to restart my computer, and Chrome updated with that restart as well. I looked through Flags and didn't find anything that looked like it related to this, but I'm hoping that if there's an answer someone here has it.

So what do I need to do with this Adobe stuff? I don't think I've ever actually independently installed Adobe flash on this computer. I've just run it through my browsers, and I already have Chrome blocking all flash by default.

Google outlines the death of Adobe Flash in Chrome

Starting in September with v53, Chrome will now block background Flash processing (which is used for sorts of things like site analytics).

In December with v55, HTML5 will be the default go-to for sites unless they do not support anything but Flash. Even for those sites, you will be prompted to enable Flash when you first visit the site.

Because hitting backspace when you thought you were in an edit form but you actually weren't results in significant lost data

I changed this long ago in Firefox using a keyboard rebinding addon. Easier on my 60% keyboard, too since Caps Lock+WASD = arrow keys which makes navigation possible with one hand. With Chrome you're stuck with whatever are deemed the defaults though.

Make it an option.

Seriously, so stupid. Going to have to seriously start looking at the other browsers after the last few stupid updates Google has made with Chrome on desktop and mobile.

Options add maintenance burden and make the experience more confusing for the average user. Chrome has few options on purpose. Not taking a side here personally, but that's the official stance. I will say though that if every time someone said "make it an option" they actually did, it would be an incomprehensible mess.

As you said, you can use a different browser

Chrome causes my entire laptop to slow to almost a halt
I thought it was malware
But uninstalling chrome fixes it
I tried reinstalling
Does the exact same thing

Odd , guess I'm going to have to find a new secondary browser for this laptop then

It does, just another that didn't need fixing that they decided to change. Insert xkcd comic about Spacebar workflow.

Stable Channel has been updated to v53.

The main UI has seen some slight changes. Tabs look bigger. Also, the button icons have changed.

This is the first of two big updates in Chrome's efforts to faze out Adobe Flash for good. This update now disables background Flash handling for site analytics and such. v55 in December will essentially have a built-in Flash block.

On that final note, if any of you enterprising souls discover a method by which to reduce the height of tabs in v53, please shout out - my search has so far come up empty.

Aside from this, v53 isn't bothering me too much - if anything, I think font rendering has improved, which is nice.

Anyone figured out a way to tweak right click context menu settings in chrome? With v53 the right click menu for stuff like open in new tab, new window, etc the "highlighted" line is much dimmer now than before, literally noticed right away a few seconds the difference after updating.

The default windows app behavior (for my color setting anyways) is for the currently selected line to be in baby blue, but chrome for some reason is using a slightly more grey box, which makes it hard to tell which line is actually the current selection.

I have a question about updating Chrome. I haven't used Desktop Chrome on my laptop in over a month now. When I started it up today it said I needed to manually reinstall chrome with a big red arrow notification. When I click it it takes me to a site. Is this legit and safe to use since it is asking for my admin password to do it? As far as I can tell from using Chrome nothing seems to be wrong.

Of course it's not safe. Anything that's asking for a password to install a browser is obviously a scam. You need to run a virus scan.

Anyone else having issues with Chrome?

I try to launch the browser and it wont launch, so I click the app again and it launches two browsers. Additionally, the tab is labeled "chrome://newtab" and it just seems to be running slow.

Seeing the weirdest thing in my new tab page:

h6YbBcS.png

The hangouts link is an image preview of what looks like arabic, but the source for the image looks normal and it links to hangouts.google.com:

Code:
<img title="Google Hangouts" class="thumbnail" src="chrome-search://thumb2/https://hangouts.google.com/?fb=https://www.google.com/webpagethumbnail?c=63&d=https://hangouts.google.com/&r=4&s=148:94&a=-MNRYFZp2LshYTrezC9E0bqJZrU"

Anyone have a clue about this?

Anyone else having an issue recently where the scroll wheel randomly stops working on the tab you're currently using? It'll work on every other tab I have open, but I can never get it to work on the tab it broke on. I have to duplicate the tab and then things work just fine from there.

This happens completely randomly, on many different sites. From GAF to google search results to regular websites.

Yeah it's happened 3 or 4 times for me over the last few weeks.

Oh good. Was worried that was just me.

Been like that here for at least a week maybe.

Don't know if this will get noticed, but has anyone who uses Chrome's remote desktop had issues with it connecting to PCs after the last Chrome version update?

It won't work for me with either Stable or Beta builds.

For Chrome - Version 58.0.3029.81 beta (64-bit)

Chrome RDP - Chrome Remote Desktop 57.0.2987.84

Ok. I just checked and I am on the same versions of Chrome Desktop [57.0.2987.84] and Host browser [58.0.3029.81 (Official Build) beta (32-bit)]. No issues connecting.

Different client though - Client - 59.0.3071.16 (Official Build) dev (32-bit)

Anyone have a issue where skipping ahead in a youtube video will freeze the browser and you'll have to force close it?

Sometimes the freeze will sort itself out kinda and the youtube player will just crash and leave a green window. Most of the time I need to close and reopen the browser as it will freeze all the tabs. Only happens with youtube and no other video player.

Been happening to me for a few weeks now.

How do you find the client version?
