Welp...it's officially been a year since Xenoblade Chronicles X came out in the Americas and Europe. What's even more shocking is that it'll be two years in late April for Japan. Before we know it, we'll have the third Xenoblade game in our hands. ;)

Speaking of the 1 year anniversary, this fanart is cute.

Well it sounded like you expect the next Xeno game to come out way sooner than it probably will. :)
Even if there's a Xeno game slated for 2017, they wouldn't start hyping it until after the launch window is done and Zelda is already out. That said, I personally wouldn't expect the next Xeno game until 2019 at the earliest.

Ah, I see. The original point I was making was that 1 year flew by so quickly. Even if the next game won't come out for a few years, I think it'll come by quickly. I wasn't saying it'll be out next year or so.

On a side note, there is a rumor (I think from LKD, can't remember) that MS is targeting 2018 for the next game.

Is this game good? Loved Xenoblade 1 and I'm really enjoying my time with FFXV. Are the rumours about a Switch version legit?

It's a difficult question to answer, it's a very divisive game. At the very least, liking the first won't reliably translate to enjoying X. I personally preferred this one, but it depends on your tolerance for a decentralised main plot (and consequent heavy focus on sidequests), low production value cutscenes, bad audio mixing, Hiroyuki Sawano, a larger cast that lacks the individual focus of the first's, and stock standard anime dub VA. But if you liked the exploration aspect, environmental art and combat system of the first, the expansion of those aspects might be enough to make the whole game worthwhile.

As for the Switch rumours, it seems likely enough; though that will probably be a fair way from launch if they're accurate. Just pray they do something about the text size if you're planning on playing it in the portable mode.

It took 625 hours but I have finally 100%ed* Xenoblade X.

*didn't bother with the bestiary since I missed that one enemy and I wasn't starting a brand new save just for that.

Different focus. Xenoblade 1 was character and story focused, this one isn't. But if you enjoy FFXV that's probably because of the sidequests rather than story, so you should love X. X's open world makes FFXV's feel dated.

How much do you like exploration in your games?

If the answer is "a lot", buy this shit immediately.

If you're more into story and characters it's not going to speak to you like the first Xenoblade. In this game the story is just kind of something that happens while you explore the world. Story progress is often gated by exploration percentage, just to show you where the game's priorities are.

Htown is correct in the above. Storyline is sort of meh, but the exploration is top-notch. I was maxing out in levels WAY before I hit up the final chapters.

You'll be spending a significant amount of time exploring, and enjoying the scenery. I spent a good portion of my time taking in the view and getting photos!

I did this too. Can't believe it. I actually felt the compulsion to take screenshots and post them to Miiverse! And I never use Miiverse!

I like exploration and I'm loving FFXV's hunts, dungeons etc. I don't care about stories in video games at all (else I'd have probably ended myself somewhere along the FFXV main story).

The game sounds really good. One downside is that I didn't enjoy Xenoblade 1's combat very much because it was unresponsive and not interactive enough for me.

I think I will wait for a Switch announcement.

I think I've decided to play Xenosaga, but I know the series was originally planned on being six games. Does it end in a satisfactory way or is it obvious and painful that it should have continued?

The ending is really good, with all the character closure you'd want.

I like all three games, though the gameplay of the second is enough of a slog that I wouldn't blame you for reading a FAQ to get overpowered ASAP and blow through it -- as much as is possible.

Does the music get better?

"ugh ugh uugh Yeah"

ugh ugh uugh No

It starts to grow on you at around the 100 hour mark.

One thing I really wish games did more was to start tracks up again where they left off last time it played. The song isn't that obnoxious once it gets going, but hearing the intro over and over will make anyone sick of it.

Finally beat this wonderful game today. I really struggled with the last boss and had to go down in difficulty to beat it.

There game was addicting at times, frustrating at times but overall I enjoyed it a lot. Would have liked a bit more story but I thought the story was decent enough.

Any post game must do's?

Try any normal mission series that interests you and see NLA continues to evolve post-game, which gives you a lot more story than the main quest does. Since you have beaten the game, some normal mission series might start out as too easy for you, but as you continue down the line you should still face a lot of challenging missions.

Affinity missions are not bad as well, though I think normal missions are better.

And then you can also try "ultimate skells/gears building", beat world boss and stuffs if you are interested. Do keep in mind though, those require quite a bit of grinding so you have been warned:)

If you're going to grind, make getting an Ares 90 your top priority. It will make the rest of the process much easier.

While I'm thinking about it, is there any good strategy for dealing with
Telethia the Endbringer's Soul Read
. My
Ares 90
can carry me that far, but I'm have issues getting past that point. That Tyrant (and a Normal Mission related to it) is the only thing holding me back from a 100% survey rate.

Is that when he becomes invincible for a while? You can use the two weapon arts with faster recovery time when he's about to use one of his stronger attacks that cause status effects. You cannot be inflicted with a status effect while you're in the middle of an attack animation.

EDIT: Also if you beat that tyrant while the mission involving it is active you'll need to beat it a second time to get the hex cleared for killing it.

Do all the normal missions you can, some of the postgame ones are really cool and tie together a bunch of stuff. You also get some hints at some setting and plot elements. I'd say it's worth aiming for 100% survey completion if you really like the game, but not worth going for 100% achievements because some of them are just bonkers (kill the
Telethia
100 times? yeah, sure). The only people I've seen with an all achievement clear have playtimes at somewhere around 600 hours (100% survey should take around 175 hours).

Control a different character
If you change the order, you can control a different character instead of the silent protagonist. After I beat the game, I tried to play Elma for a few hours and it was great! Her moves depend on positioning, so combat feels very different when you're controlling her. Did the same for the other characters and again, they're so different that combat feels entirely different too. You should try it.

Build an Ares 90
You'll need to gather materials for this. If you're like me, you've finished the game and completely ignored the crafting system, so you'll see that you still have a lot to learn about this game.

Explore on foot
Leave your skell behind and explore Sylvalum on foot. You'll find many places of interest and battles will be pretty exciting. Of course, I'm not suggesting you fight some 99 LV creature on foot, but you now... there's some crazy people doing it ^_^

This is great advice. I kind of hate myself for not always being able to stick to it. Before I got my skell, I loved seeing where I could get without one. But once I got one (especially after the flight module), I admit it was tough to go back to being on foot much.

I've actually been replaying the game. I delayed getting a Skell and the flight module even longer just because I wanted to see where I could get on foot. Made it through to Caludros before getting a Skell this time around, so I was able to get Hope at about the level she starts at and do some quests that I didn't do until much later originally. Sadly it's a little too difficult to explore much of Caludros on foot before you're at a level where you should really just have a Skell already. There are ways to get around a lot of the region (the teleporters and floating platforms are cool), but there are so many level 40+ enemies crawling around that there's little point in using them.

The head start on exploration is nice though, makes it easier to navigate the region later on.

Caludros was weird in that there are so many ways to get to everywhere on foot like they planed for you to do so, but then the things are at a level that most people will not until after they fly. I enjoyed it since I explored most of the world, even jumping up to should be unassailable areas, before getting flying but it still made me think that the zone had more planed for it.

I just knew Xeno X would be a very special game for me, so I took it veeeeery sloooowly on my first playthrough. I got my first skell at the 70 hour mark, and didn't get the flying module until I hit 100 hours.

Flying was really exciting at first, but after a few hours I noticed it trivialized the best element in the game: the exploration. Suddenly, there were no barriers and no danger. That's why, as soon as I finished the game, I mostly stopped using it.

I kept using skells as land vehicles, but I just stopped flying. I think other people are doing it too, because every now and then I see people complaining that, when you get the flying module, you can't jump with a skell anymore. I see where this is coming from: it's annoying when you have to fly for three or fours seconds only to go over something that's on the way, which also breaks the music flow.

Of course I needed some motivation to keep exploring on foot. Thankfully, the game keeps throwing excellent quests at you after the main quest is finished, most of which are only fun when you're not using skells (unless all you want is to "tick boxes", because that's what you do when you use a skell to invade a fort and kill someone). Also, even though I'm usually not a completionist, finding the creatures missing from the bestiary was entertaining, and it's actually easier on foot.

Man, I could play this thing forever. Sometimes I dream Monolith releases new continents as DLC ^_^

What are some good things to keep in mind as far as spending Battlepoints? I'm level 18 and noticed that I've been very stingy with them in the hopes that I can save them for future classes. I've hit lvl 10 in Striker and Enforcer and I'm current lvl 5 in Enforcer and I've barely spent any points, so I'm probably gimping myself right now, but the hope is I'll be able to save those points for later, but I still want to get a feel for the different classes before settling on one and blowing too many points. Once I get into the third tier of classes, I'll probably still want to hit lvl 10 with everything and try alot out, but I don't want to make the game harder on myself by not spending points.

Also, what's the best healer/support class to look at in the future?

I'm not saying that's the only way to go about this, but here's my experience.

On my first playthrough, right from the start I chose the path of one of the three main classes (striker, commando and enforcer). I wasn't sure what I would specialize after that, but since I had already narrowed my options, I was able to spend points on and try all the arts that looked interesting to me and never felt like I had wasted precious points on useless things.

Also, bear in mind that after you finish the main story, you'll get plenty of options to earn points pretty quickly. Points won't be a problem for end game stuff.

Regarding the other characters in your party, if you think choosing which arts to upgrade for each character is too much work (and it surely is ^_^), you can go with these excellent suggestions:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/701151-xenoblade-chronicles-x/73179135

Of course people will agree or not with some of these choices, but they're certainly good enough (I think they're pretty good).

I'm gonna have to bump this thread, came back to this after like 6 months and I can't find this matchmaker quest anywhere in order to progress. I only have Elma and Lin in my party, Lao's affinity is over 1 heart, but it's not showing up where it's meant to be. Any ideas?

I sold my WiiU about six months ago. Played like two hours after purchasing on the eShop and was like eh.

Since, I got and really enjoyed Xenoblade Chronicles on the 3DS.

Now I'm thinking of rebuying a WiiU so I can play this again :/

Finally finished it! Does any post game content expand on the story?

Been thinking about the rumored Switch port, but since Monilith are rumored to be on a different project, I imagine a port team is on that... do we know what Monster are up to?

If a port came, what would you all like included, aside from obvious UI improvements?

For me I'd love side quests to build up NLA and other settlements (for other xenoforms as well as human), akin to Colony 6 in the first xenoblade, albiet with placement options so no two NLA are the same. The gap in NLA and the building of a water treatment plant make me think this was at one point planned.

Just QoL improvements would be fine by me.

NLA is basically expanded Colony 6.

Been playing this on and off and I like it but damn, now I am stuck with an affinity mission...I hate that you are stuck with them until completed, even though they clearly warn you...currently on one that involves Doug, the mission says level 20,my 3 guys are 23 but Doug joins at some point, for a hard Boss fight, and he is level 18...time to grind him a few levels...

Also need 20 % of Noctilium explored to be able to start chapter 6...I'm at 11 %...grind,grind,grind...thank god I like the combat and the World is great. ;)

Re postgame content: A little. There's a bunch of tidbits and hints about the various races and Mira in the quests that unlock starting in chapter 11 up through the postgame, and some of the new lines that NPCs have hint at certain things as well.

I preordered this game but never really got into it and am just starting back up. I'm getting crushed by a level 8 Bold Cinicula even though I'm also level 8. My party can't heal and I don't remember why. Do I have to target appendages first or can I just go for the head? Everything is confusing!
