Let's solve this the old fashioned way, avatar bets :p

Leeh and/or hanspampel, would you care to participate in an avatar bet? If it's zen, you pick my avatar for the next two months. And If it's not I'll pick yours.

Also Senjutsu
Care to back that up? I win, you buy me a game. You win, I buy you a game.

I know this wasn't directed to me but is this still up? Because I want in.

We don't know. Some think he is a dev but also randomly appears in sales threads, pretending to also have more knowledge than others on that regard.
In the end, he just states things without any proof and people just believe him because he seems to be an insider. And where that comes from, at least I don't know.

Lol

I don't really see this as much a strong argument against the possibility, because, for one, Scorpio's version of Ryzen wouldn't be clocked nearly as high as the PC enthusiast class chip. Second, a company like Microsoft would likely not be paying $500 to get their hands on Zen. They will pay much less than what the average consumer would pay to get something of equivalent capability. Third, not only would clock speed possibly go down by a reasonable degree (it's a console after all), but you would possibly also be looking at decreased cache sizes, and potentially even the disabling of Simultanous Multi-Threading. Although, I really do think that if Scorpio does in fact end up with Zen, I also believe SMT is a strong possibility because I believe AMD will use SMT in all versions of Zen CPUs, minus the most ultra low power devices. I feel everything else, from laptops etc would come with SMT activated.
Price is just part of the reason I don't think it will have Zen. The other being availability, I expect Microsoft is going with an APU again and I don't think Zen APUs are going to be ready by the time Scorpio ships.

This is from 2013 lols.
Could be working with a developer that was initially working on Xbox too but is now mainly with Sony, since there seems to be a few of those devs.
The fact is Matt is a bish checked past proven dev that posts on Gaf occasionally.

What he says actually has merit, while those second guessing him are just talking out their ass.

There's your difference.

Wow, this thread went...interesting places.

A few points:

1. I don't think I have a Sony bias. I never had a PS1 or 2 growing up, but I did have a N64, GameCube, and Xbox. I probably have been more vocally critical of MS this generation, but as far as I know that's because I think thay have had more to criticize over the last few years. Last generation, it was the reverse.

2. I don't know for sure what CPU the Scorpio has inside it, and I never said I did. We don't have dev kits yet. All I know is what I have been told, and the implications I can draw from that. So, I don't think the Scorpio has a Zen CPU. If it does, well, that would be great.

3. I never claimed to be infallible, or that I know everything. I don't, and I do make mistakes. The only thing I can promise is that I'm honest about everything I say, and try to be clear when I'm stating what I know to be a fact, and when it's speculation.

4. There does seem to be a specific cadre of posters here that like to attack my credibility whenever they get the chance, which I don't really understand. If one of them wants to explain what I have done to earn this treatment, that would be much appreciated.

Oh noes, we can't question things!

Thanks for clearing that up.

Yea, I thought you didn't make a mention of dev kits so I'm not sure why that came up as a point of contention.

Just Say Gears sales are good and exceeded internal expectations two times . Some stuff about Zen and Vega , blink twice while saying it and you will be good . I think!!

Holy shit guys!! I think he just confirmed that not only is Scorpio definitely, beyond a shadow of doubt, powered by Zen, but that it's also powered by THE FORCE! (game on screen is star wars)

CPU = Ryzen / check
Gpu = Vega / check
Cloud = replaced by the force / check

Everybody in the thread: Search your feelings, and you will know this to be true. A Project Scorpio dev kit was in AMD's CES 2017 booth. It's one of the monster custom PCs they were showing off. Not only that, it will cost just $400. Pot officially stirred! :)

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
it feels like the people arguing for zen are going more for what they want to have happen than the actual evidence we have.

What will you say if it turns out to be wrong? I don't mind admitting to being wrong on it, but i'm saying the evidence we've got right now doesn't point to Scorpio at all

So, what info have they shared about scorpio to devs? Anything more specific regarding the performance? Or development?

hehe I personally think it's the biggest reason Microsoft waited. Recently learning that the PS4 Pro GPU has access to some major Vega features, something Microsoft could have also done last year, leads me to believe that they aren't just waiting for Vega and 6Teraflops.

What sort of TFlop value are we talking for Zen? I mean rough ranges. Because it if was high then I would have expected MS to add it to the 6TFlop number and cut out the "graphics" reference.

Edit: Zen, fucking Zen.

I don't know if the pro had major vega features, the ones that seems to bring the most performance gains were not mentioned by sony/cerny.

Which ones? Will probably go read up on Vega's features again.

There were some architectural design changes, like the entire memory controller, a new scheduler that fed the pixel/compute/geometry shaders. The rasterizer now uses a tile based approach, which was said to be a big win for Nvidia when they changed it, drastically increasing performance and decreasing bandwidth usage. They changed the cache system on how pixel shaders and rops access the memory.

Of course, all of that is still unproven, but like I said, a tile based rasterizer was a huge win for NVidia.

For the features that pro does have: The new compute engine that can pack operations with different bit sizes (the whole double rate fp16 drama lol). And AMD has added a few hardware support for games that want to process the geometry using compute, instead of the fixed function pipeline. I don't know if pro has the entire feature as Vega, but one thing it does is the primitive index. This allows for drastic reductions on the cost of post screen AA for instance (where the biggest performance hit comes from finding edges, and with that index you get that for free), and also is fundamental for checkerboard rendering.

CPUs doesn't reach anything above 200 Gigaflops and the main benchmark is not the compute performance but how many instructions can be handled per cycle (IPC).

hey frank. after the xbox one s reveal and before the eurogamer interview with albert penello about the technical details, mike ybarra already confirmed a die shrink for the new xbox one s soc

so you obviously can't talk about this stuff right now, but i'm sure you can tease or confirm some of the new console tech after the official reveal without getting into too much trouble
so yeah this is just my way of begging to get information a little bit early ;)

Matt, disappeared from Nintendo threads and is now in ms threads 🤔. Also I wouldn't take naysayers seriously. I think it's good that people are skeptical as it helps people more easily discern fake leakers from real leakers
yeah that's not true

Lol, you think?

This is a post-truth world now. People will just take whatever they assume is correct and factual and disregard anything else. This carnival of stupid will keep on going for a good while.

Dude, i've been trying to point out that nonsense since the Wii-U speculation threads.

People love holding those L's apparently.

Albert agreed with another poster's notion of anything that is 1080p 60fps on Xbone would be 4k 60fps on Scorpio and anything at 1080p 30fps would be 4k 30fps.
