Such a disappointment that EQ Next was canceled a bit back

My dream is still an official or at least unofficial but easy to configure version of the Vanilla game with all mobs spawned. I just want to log in, run around, explore and level like a single player sandbox game with the ability to co op with friends.

I know there are server emulators but they seem too complicated.

Anyone selling some KEI?

Man the first time I got KEI was revelatory. It really was like getting some super drug for a heavy caster, especially one with shit gear. Its like I went from medding 100% of the time I was healing and buffing to wading into battle spamming yaulp.

You better REALLY like Necromancers at launch if that's what you'd want to do, otherwise....yeesh.

Just got Clarity on my level 9 ench last night and it actually felt like I was playing wow, just spamming my nuke nonstop. It actually got tiring to do that for 2-3 hours, made me miss not having it. I never really played a cast back in the day so it felt really odd.

Oh then that's fine, I was under the impression from what you said that EQ had hard-linked aggro mobs like some mobs in WoW and FFXIV but it seems that's not the case.

Newp, in EQ you could have a room with 8 mobs standing mere feet form each other, and a skilled puller could find a way to bring them 1 or 2 at a time until their spawn times were broken up enough to just chain pull.

Everquest 2 just got an expansion in Nov.
Doesn't mean it's not dead, I mean Landmark just came out less than a year ago and it's got like 150 people and is shutting down.

EQ2s server loads are all low all the time except for a couple.

EQ2 is not dead, it gets an expansion every year. Its not WoW numbers..but its def not dead.

Again, they literally released a product 7 months ago that is closing down, I'm not saying EQ2 is closing down but it's delusional to go 'oh it's not wow numbers but it's doing well'

No shit it's not wow numbers, my point is that it's not even EQ1 numbers, which themselves are a huge shell of their former selves. EQ1 and EQ2 are surely profitable, that does not make them 'alive' in any meaningful way. If you go make a character on a non-progression server for either game, you will not see a single soul until you hit max level without actively seeking them out. EQ2 has been on steam since it went F2P, for example. It's highest concurrent players yesterday? 188. Even if you want to assume that's like 5% of its total playerbase (I think you're nuts to do that, but hey let's do that) that's not 4000 concurrent players in a day yesterday.

EverQuest 1 had like 3000 concurrent players per server every damn night in its heyday, and had like 10 times as many servers.

Here's hoping that Pantheon ends up being the game it wants to be. I can only play through so many more EQ1 progression servers ;-; That or please sell the IP to someone who gives a damn.

How the hell did this slip under my radar? Thanks for the heads-up, game looks damn promising!

I too had high hopes for it, as I was also a very very early EQ gamer. Probably for the best for me though. I don't have nearly enough free time for an MMO these days. Good reminder that some things in your past and probably best left there.

Ok theres a few incorrect "statements" here.

Most of the population are on two servers...if you are on those servers you see plenty of people.

And you couldnt be more wrong about the second thing...Steam makes up far less then even prob 1% of its users. The vast majority of Eq 1 and 2 users do not like to use steam at all and part of that reason is the majority of the player base ...more for eq2 then 1..are over 40 and plenty are older women. Lots do not play any other games or at least enough to bother with Steam. Many of the people who play EQ2 were playing before Steam existed.

How do i know? I'm a freelance artist but on the side..i also make items for Daybreaks markets....I know what the populations are like not only from paychecks but because i directly interact with the communities a lot to find what people want.

it's doing well...but it's 12 years old now...and its never going to have a growing playerbase....I dont know if thats possible with any mmo that uses the standard theme mark method. The world would have to really be alive and malleable for that to happen i think and while some touch on it , thats something that hasnt really happened yet.

EQNext was an interesting idea but the engine was terrible and voxels do not look good, the landmark engine was a mess.

I used to play EQ1 a long time ago for quite a while...it had its moments but i dont think i could ever go back to that. Killing frogs for days just to get a level.

I enjoyed guild wars but again, way too theme parkish for me..and the way zoning and area caps worked was too immersion breaking for my taste. Black Desert is the only mmo ive enjoyed in a long time...but its something i can jump into when i want...other then that...no real time for mmo's.

Based on what they were planning on doing for environmental damage as well as AI behaviors this game sounded like it was going to be fucking fantastic.

Such a shame it was killed...
