“Big boos can be defeated by sliding down stairs”

wanna be even more blown away with DK?

DKCR and DKCTF run in an upgarded version of the Metroid Prime engine. the same engine used on the trilogy was carried over to Retro's DKC games.
they locked the camera to the side to make 2D movement work.
some fans reverse engineered the Prime games to be able to make an editor that lets you view all the assets in the Metroid Prime games and it works with the DK games because of them using the same engine.

You can do this in Forest Fortress (and other places? not sure).

I love minor graphical glitches

What the?! This reminds me of that trick that people just figured out after years to stop Bald Bulls rush in NES punch out!

I had NO idea about this

This is like when people realized you could use mario's crawl in mario 64 to go up steep inclines.

Also you know what blows, you can spin jump off buzz saws in mario world but not in mario maker. Whats up with that shit?

This has killed me more than once in Mario Maker.

iirc they are not pre-rendered as they have the proper shadows according to the stage.

Aren't they just drawn to a separate buffer in real time so they wouldn't clip with the stage? Though I read that somewhere...

There's no way they're completely pre-rendered, though, the amount of frames you'd need for all the angles Donkey Kong can grab vines at would be insane.

What?! I didn't even know you could slide down stairs... also, that makes the level design even better than it already was. This game is something else!

I think that's because the entire game runs off of NSMB's physics, no matter which game you choose. At least that's what I've heard. I don't care enough about SMM to research that more.

i bet even the original devs themselves forgot that it was possible to do that.

Now unlike the ghost and bubble ones, this one looks like an oversight on the devs part. Hence the "not sure what sprite to use here so I'll just use gibberish" glitched death sprite.

So does this mean you can kill literally anything with a slide? Like it was programmed as an "always works" attack but no one ever put in an exceptions list. The one with the saw and the triangle ramp looks to be a side-effect since no one ever thinks to slide down that ramp as it's only supposed to be used for running up walls.

The slide is obviously a bug. I wonder if it would work on the bosses if you could somehow hack the game to put them in areas with slides.

lmao @ all the liars who claimed they already knew this
A) If someone could find out about it now, when the internet is huge and news travels fast, why would you deny anyone could find it out 26 years ago when the internet was barely a child and only a few kids on the playground would have known about it?

B) It was also in a highly popular book about Mario games. And people STILL didn't know it. But the information has been out there for a quarter of a century.

So, is this the new "Video game facts that blow your mind" thread?

I figured this out when I was 8 on my gameboy advanced.
Get on my level.
It's kind of impressive to get every single part of a console's name wrong when it says it right there on the front below the screen.

Game Boy Advance.
