How different was the Chaos;Head game compared to the anime? I remember watching it and thought it was completely terrible, putting me off of Chaos;Head.

For what it's worth, I've watched Steins;Gate and Robotics;Notes and thought both of them were excellent.

AFAIK the C;H anime is trashed by everyone.

Very different. The game is actually good, though some people can't stand the protagonist.

It's going to be subjective of course, but I've heard opinions that Chaos;Child is the best in the series so far. Hard to say how that would be influenced by not playing Chaos;Head beforehand, though.

VNDB ratings put it above Steins;Gate 0 and below Steins;Gate.

Does Chaos;Child still have the same premise as Chaos;Head (qualia, observer effect, etc.)? The production was terrible on the anime, but I thought the premise was highly interesting, especially after having read a similar manga (Qualia the Purple).

Sad we probably won't be getting Chaos;Head Noah but STOKED, I loved C;H. ty pqube.
But with no S;G0 release date I'm not expecting this until 2018.

Getting visual novels on PC is great, since there are several options to play those on the go, like tablets and PC handhelds. Still, given the option, Vita will always be my #1 go-to platform for visual novels.

I think it does. I'm pretty sure
"whose eyes are those eyes"
makes a return, but I don't know much else since I haven't played it.

PQube still maintains that S;G 0 will be releasing in 2016, so I think this could reasonably release in 2017.

It is great, but I wouldn't say the credit should go to those two, I'd say it's thanks to Phoenix Wright and the Zero Escape series, especially the former.

I don't know anyone personally who got steins;gate without already being into visual novels

Hadn't we been getting Phoenix Wright games for years without this recent explosion?

If anything I'd say it's more due to the changing practices of Japanese companies licencing their IP's overseas.

Answer from Reading Steiner (one of the guys who translated Steins;Gate) had this to say about getting Chaos;Child in the west without Chaos;Head:

I'll be expecting to receive this question again at some point. The short answer is you won't lose out on the plot, but you will lose out on the feeling.
Here's the long answer:

Chaos;Child is primarily about the repercussions of the "Third Melt" that occurs in Chaos;Head, how the catastrophe affected the youthful population around Shibuya, and the unique form of PTSD that springs forth afterwards
.Most importantly, Chaos;Child deals with the investigation of a string of grisly murders that closely mirror another string of murders that occured in 2009 during Chaos;Head.

To go into Chaos;Child without Chaos;Head is certainly an option, but you will be losing out on vital world knowledge and setting familiarity that seasoned players would have from the start, you will lose out on feelings invoked by certain phrases, lines, and cameos.

Chaos;Child does explain these background details, as well as the mechanics of the science involved once the plot gets going, but without having experienced them firsthand I don't believe the reader would be nearly as invested.

Chaos;Child is an excellent game, but I don't believe I would have felt so strongly about it if I was not familiar with the setting beforehand.

To summarize, Chaos;Child will spoil the plot of Chaos;Head for you, as it is about the rippling impact caused by the events of Chaos;Head. However, it is still a very powerful story by itself, so you may play it without having played its predecessor if you have no other choice.

He also answered about whether the expanded content in Chaos;Head Noah is important to read before Chaos;Child:

No, Noah doesn't really have anything pertaining to Chaos;Child, but it has a lot of interesting worldbuilding information that is still nice to know.

Kinda weird to get this before Chaos;Head, but as someone who already played that last year and only wanted to see the new Noah stuff, I'm much happier with this.
