Man. What a world. I can finally import Taiko no Tatsujin and just play it instead of having to mod my system. Finally.

They botched launch day, but this thing is going to have some monster exclusives a year out.

Assuming release dates are kept.
so, maybe not...

Japan has a garbage line up as well. I wonder what scraps EU will get.

Going to have to check out reviews for Dragon Quest 1 and 2. Other than Breathe of the Wiild there isn't anything I'm excited enough to buy for the first 2 months. Removal of region locking makes buying this early less painful.

Those first few months are going to be dry as fuck

As with any other console. The good thing is that the dry period will only be about half a year because Nintendo will not be handling Holiday 2017 like Summer 2013.

Also seeing how low key Mario Kart 8 was handled I could see them releasing a lot of WiiU ports (Mario Maker, Smash , Pokken etc.) to fill the gap.
Japanese third party support is way better than Wii U. Nowhere close to 3DS though.

how great was japanese third party support for 3DS in its first year?

the only notable release was Resident Evil and Street Fighter 4. combine that with the fact that nintendo had a really pisspoor 3DS launch lineup (unlike switch which has a zelda game)

3DS had Professor Layton, Dead or Alive, Ridge Racer, Kingdom Hearts and MGS3 all announced before launch. Not mindblowing but a bit better than this IMO.

Top third party year one games were Monster Hunter 3G, Inazuma Eleven Go Shine/Dark, Professor Layton and Mask of Miracle.

Smash's absence is nothing surprising to me. There's simply no reason to rush it on the launch window. Unlike Mario Kart, which will eventually receive a proper sequel, there won't be another Smash game this generation. They will push it as the Switch Smash and release it at a time when there's no major competition from other Switch games.

Mmmmh... can't see it doing very well in Japan...

By the way, I can assume that Monster Hunter is a Sony thing now.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Snipperclips are just March at present and not 3 March. And there's the five Neo Geo games for March too. Good list though!
