Oft hope is born when all is forlorn.
100x better than the Wii U's first year.

I'm 100% sold because of Zelda, Mario and the fact that I can take them on the go, but I don't blame anyone for jumping ship. Some of Nintendo's decisions here are baffling.

Mario is end of the year though, I will probably get it then too.

They look much more comfortable than the WiiMote. Especially with the strap attatchment.

Your friend should buy more pro controllers? I assume you're playing smash? So he has a GameCube adapter with only one controller? Weird.

That's not the entire 2017 lineup. This is January. E3 and the VGAs are far, far away and will be full of announcements. Stop the hyperbole.

Smash, Mario Kart, slways family feud to go "Who the hell would say that" etc.

Buy more Pro controllers for his Wii that barely sees use as it is?

What about the switch, buying 3 pro controllers, 2/3rds the cost of the console, you know, no biggie.

I'm part of the problem.

I completely understand all the critics though, it's not a rational decision. But I want a new toy :)

Hey, theres nothing quite like getting a brand new console hardware on launch day one. If you think that experience would be worth it, more power to you. This only happens every once in a while.

I'm pretty torn on whether I should keep my preorder or sell it to a friend that didn't get to preorder. Chances are looking slim for me as it would be smarter for me to save money.

Of course it isn't. But this is Nintendo we're talking about here. I'm not concerned for no reason. All signs seem to point to third-party support being problematic yet again.

Jesus, that's such a weak lineup for 2017.

Where are games like Prey, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Resident Evil 7, Mass Effect, and even Red Dead Redemption 2? This just bugs the hell out of me.

This is one of the bigger reasons, outside of being terrible in general that Nintendo can't really get away with charging online subs. At least I hope they can't get away with it/

I always loved the Vita's form factor but I also enjoyed Nintendo's games and characters more than anything Sony has ever put out. The Switch is like the perfect combo of the two, with the added ability to play it on the big screen.

I pre-ordered the black version and the LoZ special edition...figure it will be the only game I'll be playing for a while on it so might as well get the good version (and that carrying case is awesome).

Their launch lineup could have been a shit ton better but they do have amazing games coming down the pipeline and I'm sure Zelda will keep me busy for a long time.

What if the Switch is really Nintendos only system, and it does 3DS LTD numbers? Is that considered a flop?

??

Mario 3D World
Zelda Wind Waker Remastered
Pikmin 3
Rayman Legends
The Wonderful 101
NSMB 2

Might have missed one or two

This is THE Nintendo console going forward. Maybe we will finally see Nintendo go third party. (I don't think so, it would have to flop horrribly.)

Something I just thought, and I may have missed but... does Nintendo have an official tag line?

Like "For the Players/Greatness Awaits" or "Jump Ahead"

"There's No Play Like It" was a tagline for Nintendo as a whole for a little while but I don't know if it is anymore.

I'm sure they hope it does better, but that would be far from a flop.

They'd make billions given how high attach rates are for their games and all their games being in one place now. Not to mention all the high priced accessories, Amiibo etc.

If you think that the general public, by and large, gives a crap about "HD rumble" -- or, for that matter, the majority of the hardcore gaming population! -- sorry, but odds are that you are mistaken. I personally am willing to bet that 1) it's actually really awesome and that 2) nobody will care. That is not why someone rushes out to spend $400+ on a console and a couple of games.

They don't need to know what it's called or how it works. It's up to Nintendo to present engaging experiences using the tech. And yeah, I think that in a world where tons of things have advanced by leaps and bounds, haptics really haven't yet. Something that can deliver a tactile experience could absolutely resonate.

That ship sailed a long time ago. Thinking major 3rd party support will ever come back is foolish. A major reason for the hybrid approach is that it makes it easier for Nintendo to support their own platform if the games aren't split between two lines. I question whether you really thought those games you listed could come to Switch or were just stirring the pot. Of course they aren't.

I find that gamers on boards like NeoGaf are not a good representation of the general market. For instance many people on Gaf seem to dislike the Switch being underpowered and are basing their value on that. The general market may on the other hand see ads and see games like 1 2 Switch on Ellen show and go ga ga for the thing.

This is a group that loves Bloodborne and Persona and the like whereas the general market does not. It's like arthouse movie theaters v summer blockbusters: there's a crowd for both and Nintendo are trying to give a good balance between niche and mass appeal.

Oh and for people who argued the point months ago, this is exactly why doing a blowout reveal 2 months before launch is a terrible idea. They completely botched the reveal, pricing, etc., and now are left with no time to do anything about it.

Well Gamestop wouldn't let me preorder BOTW due to some server problems. Also they opened an hour early meaning I missed the neon colors, which they had two of. Grey is fine but I wanted neon. I'll be happy with grey tho.

Amazon doesn't have Switch BOTW preorders up for some reason either so I can't even do that as a backup and I can't order online from any other site so I have the system secured but not the game. Bizzaro world.

Anywayz: Yeah, price sucks. Huge Nintendo fan so I would've paid anything for it but I fear for its sales since I want Nintendo to suceed. Splatoon 2, 3D Mario, and of course Zelda are all GOTG type games all in one year which is great! arms also looks quite cool.

How 1,2, Switch isn't a packin and $50 I'll never know. No packin at $300 is insanity. Atleast throw MK8D in there. Speaking of was meh on that after no new tracks but battle mode looks really fun so I may still get it.

Worst part was online fee. Maybe its only $10-$30 a year but I expect the worst. Worth it for me for Splatoon 2 alone but also feel like its bad with sales. Don't know whats Nintendo thinking.

I love the idea of a new VC online game a month. A neat thing to have online and a different game each month means a big online community for each game each month.

Also lol if anyone think a Pokemon game is coming to this and not 3DS this year after the price.

Really. This kind of posts read like that there is some conspiracy against nintendo when it comes to western third party publishers. If Nintendo actually released modern home console that had similar or higher HW power to PS4/XBO pretty much all multiplatform games would come to it also. Really. How many non moneyhat third party exclusives PS4 or XBO have in west? Pretty much zero. If Switch would be modern home console it would costs pretty much zero bucks to port games to it. It's Nintendo that chose this hybrid approach that makes it more difficult to port any AAA franchises on it.

Can someone explain to me what exactly someone would do with this without the Joy-Cons connected? I am trying to figure out why Nintendo/PDP/others are releasing travel cases that fit only the console/tablet and not the JCs.

It's because Zelda is a launch title if that was delayed truly to summer for europe then i would have waited till holidays and get one with mario and zelda.

I just need to play this Zelda game and i want to do that with a fresh start on new hardware.

But yeah i am a huge Zelda fan so i can't help myself in that regard. (but honestly mario looks epic too if that was the launch game i would still have bought the switch i adore mario 64 and the galaxy games)

Any sane person would say getting a console for 1 game is crazy talk but Zelda is that huge to me especialy this game going by trailers etc. Looks like the Zelda game i dreamed of as a child.

And yeah i know about the Wii U version:p

But yeah everyone has their valid reason for getting one or not anytine soon.

As someone who owned a Saturn, Game.com, VITA, and Dreamcast - I can tell you this system will fail.

This is THE definitive list why:

#1 - Failure to capitalize on nostalgia. NES Classic proved a market. All Nintendo had to do was offer a large library of classic games on the Switch at a mass market price and they fucked it up. Again.

#2 - No killer ap for the 10:00 news crowd. Sorry Switch, weird consoles like you can't survive on open world Zelda. You needed Mario64/Wii Sports levels of mass appeal to survive this market. Portable GTAV would've had a better shot than Zelda.

#3 - Overall cost. People are happy spending $300 for gaming hotness. However, not a PS360-ish Nintendo machine lacking #1 or #2. I estimate neither 80% of current portable gamers (mostly parents and their kids) or 50% of current at home-gamers (mostly 15-35 y/o males) will spend the following:

$300 for base console
$69.99 for a controller
$79.99 for a Joy-Con
$89.99 dock

Also, Little Billy ain't going to drop $60 for a game and Big Zit Will ain't going to pay shit for Switch's monthly online "offerings."

sure, long as we can also ditch the notion that power alone is historically some measure of success

ref-strawman-fallacy.jpg

No one says this. Power has never been the sole criteria responsible for success in a system. If it was, the 3DO would have been the king in 1993. But to somehow insinuate, as that poster did, that power and value are unimportant because the Gamecube failed against a company at the top of their game with a year head start and the most hyped system in gaming history is as silly as saying that the SMS failed because it was stronger than the NES. What I am addressing is a general attitude especially since the Wii, to poo-poo the whole idea of having a system that is comparable power wise to modern systems. Nintendo quit trying in the home console space years ago.

Some people seem so confident regarding how this thing will perform. These threads are gonna be fun if the system manages to blow up.

Yes. "Left Behind". Lol.

Seriously though, cant wait for zelda once the console drops by a 100. Was hoping for a bomb drop MH4U or PSO2 but alas, my hopes were dashed. Oh how I wept.

It's not gonna blow up anytime soon, possibly holiday season if it becomes the must have toy for kids Christmas gifts like the Wii became.

lol. You already said it yourself. They are only "some" who are confident on this system when most people are saying it is dead or Nintendo will go 3rd party by 2020.

3rd party nintendo would make them a LOT of moolah. Imagine all the remasters they would sell, as well as the latest releases etc. They could do bundles like the Rare Replay etc.

I can see why the presentation would not have sold anyone onto the switch, and the price is a bit high with the fact we have to pay for online pay is a bit on the con side. The highlight of the presentation was Super Mario Odyssey. 1,2 switch didn't really do it for me, and arms is meh as well. I really wished They have shown the rumored Smash port, and I hope that the Switch version of BoTW has a huge improvement over the Wii U (unless we been told already what improvements are). My preorder is in, and the wait begins. I hope this does well and puts Nintendo back on the map.

I really liked the Wii (for the games that were released later on in its life span).

Will Nintendo EVER go back to making regular consoles and give up the gimmick shit? Can't they just make a fucking Game Cube 2.0 ?

So I am at the tokyo big sight right now (was here an hour before the habdson event starts) and the location is full of people. Small children, teens, elder people, regular middle aged man. Looks like it will be successful at least in japan

Apologies if I'm the 100th person to ask this, but has there been any news on Twitter/FB etc about Smash 4 Switch? I was shocked to not see it teased during that sizzle reel.

Great way to measure potential success. I can already tell you that it will be one of the weakest Nintendo console launches in Japan due to very bad lineup for the market. They should have made Splatoon 2 day one.

Every console will sell out their initial stock. Nintendo has plenty of fans (especially in Japan) to sell some consoles. Problem is that "some" might not be a whole lot when it's all said and done.

Probably gonna pick it up in May or June based on games I'm interested in and financial situation. I've got a Wii U backlog to work through, so I might as well give ol' faithful a good run before it's finally time to put it away and make room for the Switch and the games.

For now I might just stay away from the Gaming side until all this blows over. GAF is currently in Shitting on Nintendo Circlejerk mode and it's nigh impossible to get a proper conversation out of anyone without it turning into a lol nintendo out of touch time to go third party bullshit. I swear GAF is so bad when it comes to people trying so hard to be funny and trying so hard to fit in with what's cool at the time to bandwagon.

It is cheapest in Japan. If it was that cheap here in Canada, or in Europe, it would sell like hot cakes.

The Switch reveal has confirmed more than ever that I'm ready for Nintendo to go third party.

I really, really, *really* don't need an underpowered 'gaming tablet' for $400 canadian.

Really.

I wouldn't say they should go third party or anything, but they really need to rethink their strategy in regards to pricing structure if they want this to really be a success. They are price gouging accessories worse than the Vita.

Yeah Nintendo pricing strategy is clearly visible. There concentrating on Japan and US. Other countries will only sell to the core fans with those prices.
