Switch charging time is 3 hours, non-removable battery

How does it charge in the dock? Do you have to line it up just right with the connector on the bottom? Is it like the wii u game pad on the bottom? Does it charge wirelessly, like a Samsung Galaxy phone can?

ive been trying to stay positive today despite the barrage of terrible news, but this... this is when the tears started welling up. its almost difficult to breathe like im having a panic attack or something. i hate nintendo so goddamn much. they're ruining everything the rumors and my imagination had made up.

Um

I think you might be a little too invested in a corporation's box of plastic and metal. Talk to a loved one or a friend bro, it's just video games.

Gawd people need to calm down with these threads. Think about it, this is Nintendo's next home console. You'll be able to play their big franchise main entries on the go, in HD, and the whole thing is about the size of a WiiU controller. It's really a marvel, both technologically and industrial design wise.

It's not being touted as a handheld, and it will probably charge when you come home and put it in the dock anyway. It's a home console with mobile capabilities and it will do its job just fine for most people and use cases. Some posters here seem to have really unreasonable expectations on what they have built, try to be realistic please.
Saying "it has Nintendo games"is not really the selling point you seem to think it is

I've gone a generation not playing Nintendo games due to the hardware being such a poor offering (as have most people looking at the sales). Honestly haven't get like I've missed much. Maybe 1-2 games

Even Zelda still has a lot to prove after how average the previous two were

32GB Storage.

2 hour of game time portable.

Longer charging time than playing time.

Paid online for what will surely be horrendous infrastructure - it's nintendo ffs.

Must use smartphone to talk online (hope this one isn't true)

Same power as a Wii U - meaning this "home console" is now as strong as consoles released nearly 10 years ago.

$299 overpriced and $59.99 games (are they serious with this bullshit?)

$70 for a pro controller - more than an XB1 or PS4 controller. $90 for a set of JoyCons.

This thing isn't a marvel at all. It's a goddamn disaster with an abysmal launch lineup. I had such high expectations for this thing and was ready to buy it day one but now... now I'm gonna have to avoid buying it on launch just out of principle.

Too expensive and bulky for a handheld system (especially with $60 games), and far too weak for a current gen console. Nintendo thought they were being smart but instead they screwed gamers on both spectrums.

Nintendo truly never learns. I never thought I would say this but I honestly hope they die off after this thing fails and just starts making software. I wouldn't mind seeing Zelda/Mario on a PS4P and Scorpio.
I'm talking about the hardware design and capabilities, you're talking mostly about details such as included storage, pricing and launch games. I feel like people are trying to find every angle to shit on because they dislike some completely unrelated aspect of the console.

I wonder if people are generally out of touch with what it takes to build a machine like this, and what are reasonable expectations out of the hardware.

Im not buying ntil Mario Odyssey releases, but thank god the thing has USB-C and I have asuper useful portable charger with me with a lot of battery charge (comes super handy with heavy use photograhy with my phone when Im on vacation).

Wow this a legítimo bad surprise for me. I was really hoping for a fast charge because of the USB C port and some rumors. This may be the reason I won't buy this system.

Do people really play games on their phones while out and about, 3hrs at a time, without getting a chance to charge their device?

USB ports are everywhere. I'm always looking for a place to charge my phone. I already make sure to take a power bank with me if I know I'll be somewhere I can't charge. *shrugs*

This really seems like a non-issue.

My car, office, and lazy boy recliner all have USB ports. My phone has never been below 40%. Seriously. I can't imagine my Switch will either.

The reaction to this seems a little over the top. I can't remember the last time I didn't have a USB cable with me and a place to charge my devices. I got them in the car, all over my house and in my work bag. If I'm out somewhere with this thing I seriously doubt I'd be gaming long enough for this to be a problem or annoyance.

What's wrong with $59.99 No seriously... what is wrong with it?

Nothing is wrong with it, for brand new AAA games like Zelda.

But for old ports that are $30 cheaper on other consoles?
Or for less ambitious titles, that would easily be at home on the 3DS?

No way I'm paying $60 for those.

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
ITT people expecting Nintendo to defy current technology, laws of physics and chemistry, and economics.

They already defied logic and common sense, might as well go all the way.

I don't understand what the issue is.

What did you expect? Eight hours of playtime? Six? Without a charge? Playing a full fledged Zelda game on the go?

Many own and love the Vita too.

Seriously, my Vita chews through power like a starving animal, it's ALWAYS been that way. My 3DSXL seemed to do okay at first, or maybe it was just that I wasn't playing for extended play sessions when I first got it.

Am I missing something? Can someone explain it to me?

Seems fine, I already purchased charge cables to have at work and in my cars.

Not all that different from the ipad when I stress it playing a game.

Everytime i see ranting posts, people seem to reduce minutes of how long will the battery last
they go between 2:30 to 5 hours, then only 3 hours, and there is a quoted post about stating only 2 hours

i guess tomorrow people will start saying it will never charge or something

...hate me...
Yep! The goddamn thing already costs $300 without a game. Now you want to spend another $20 on a decent USB-C battery. Want another set of joy-con? $80. Oh you want to play a game on your new Switch? $60. $30 for the wrist strap things? Seriously Nintendo??? Why do you hate those who grew up with you?

People already get plenty tethered to these with their smartphones nowadays. For gaming it's even less of an issue.

No actually. The large majority of people with smartphones aren't walking around with extra bricks unless they're still playing Pokemon GO for several hours a day. Most smartphones will last all day and beyond with moderate usage, and there's no need for extra battery. And they prefer it that way, because needing to spend an extra $50 and having to tether a cabled extraneous accessory (which also needs to be charged!) is hugely inconvenient, and a major barrier for the portability of a piece of hardware who's key feature is to take it on the go.

don't.... no... don't say it. please.

holy crap. there's no going back now, guys. he's said it. he never thought he would. GODDAMNIT, NINTENDO! LOOK WHAT YOU MADE HIM DO!!!

Yeah i agree. I am really dissapointed with this console.

So the battery charges about as fast it drains while playing BotW, which isn't likely even going to be the most intensive game the platform will have (it's a Wii U port after all)?

The more I read about Nintendo Switch, the more I want a Playstation 4. It hasn't even been 24h, and I'm already considering cancelling my preorder.

Maturity, bitches.
Do people seriously go from 0% to 100% battery every day?

When my 3DS or Wii U Gamepad are not in use at home they're sitting in the cradles. I never have to worry about waiting for them to charge up.

People are literally just looking for reasons to whine now.

So you chose to not consider their games because you couldn't look past the hardware spec numbers. All I can say is "OK".

Ps I have a beefy gaming PC as well. The Switch isn't competing with it at all.

I think the problem is that a lot of us were hoping that Nintnendo learned from their past consoles and handhelds and would bring out a system that is compelling and gives us our favorite IPs. Yet we have a system that is full of nonsensical choices that leaves us all ... sad and frustrated and longing for what could have been. I'll still buy this because I think Zelda could be one of the best games ever made. But so much about the system still sucks.

While it's in the cradle the machine will do as all tablets do, charge and operate at the same time. It's not solely running off the battery when playing a game docked. Just like the the WiiU gamepad, the 3DS and every single tablet going. The battery is NOT BEING DRAINED WHEN IN THE DOCK.

But what about when it's not docked? I mean they make car chargers for this thing. Once you take it out of the dock and try to use the portability function, which they've marketed heavily, it seems like it's really lacking a lot of the things that make "portable" (a bigger battery and quick charge).

We're a long way from the original DS which seems to retain an infinite charge. Seriously I haven't charged mine in 2 years and it's still got some juice in it.

Yes, if you play extremely demanding games on max settings.

But anyone who doesn't configure their console to save even a little battery life shouldn't complain.

So the user should have to kneecap a device from doing what it should be fully capable of doing because of it's poor design?

How does that work, 2.5 hours playtime and 3 hours recharge? Is that even possible?

Depends on how fast it charges, and how fast the battery drains.

You may have noticed that your phone can actually lose charge when plugged in to USB if you're playing a graphically intensive game.

So.. erm.. playing an intense game is it possible even having it connected will mean the system will drain battery???

Fucking insane. This should have fast charging, end of story.

Curious how difficult it'll be to replace it yourself. Many phones have the same but are surprisingly easy to open up. I'll keep an eye out for ifixit and see what they'll say.

Jesus, am i really now treated a fanboy because i think that the post claiming that charging the console will take longer than playing it was bullshit?

Is this all it takes to be considered a Fanboy nowadays?

I honestly have no idea. I mean neither the Vita or 3DS have great battery life. Whose 3DS really lasts a journey and back?

Hell, the bulk of the time I play my 3DS it's plugged in. My wife has an LG G4 (a phone that pretty much every I know with one loves) and playing Words with Friends results in her having to plug it in within 2 hours, particularly due to the video ads.

Until someone makes a huge breakthrough in commercially available batteries, that's how it's going to be with mobile devices.
