I wonder what kind of sequel this will be? Are we (XC spoilers coming up)
in the near future after XC and might even see familiar characters? Or are we in the far future? Heck, we might not even be on the same world since Shulk remade the universe.

If it is a sequel.... the only character i see returning is Melia

I really don't think that Mario game is 90% done. There are noticeable artifacts in the video, the graphical quality in some sections is really poor, and you don't actually see much gameplay, just him running places.

Polishing is like the last step in the game dev process so... the artifacts don't really tell us that it isn't that far along. As for gameplay, they showed quite a bit, but obviously they also don't want to spoil too much. You could be right, but I don't think what you said confirms it is less than 90% done.

Yes please.

Going back to XC2.... seriously gaf!?! I'm spooked by the assumptions made and conclusions drawn from so little shown..... let's not judge it till we know and see more or better still until the game actually come out.... smh

Does Monolith Soft have two teams? I just dont see how they could be making this so soon after X.

They have a support studio in Kyoto led by Honne, but they've been hiring a bunch for both offices. It's possible they pipelined development of this game while still in the middle of making X. I wouldn't be surprised if Koh Kojima is off working on the X sequel on his own.

2017 for JPN maybe.

I think even thats questionable that frame rate was rough.

They can probably use X assets to help shorten development too right?

I would, because I'd imagine Tetsuya would want to be involved with the game with mechs the most.

Though we still don't know much about Xenoblade 2 yet.

Why is everyone assuming it's a sequel ?
Just because there's a red sword ?
It actually wouldn't make sense considering Xenoblade's story.

For me it's just a nice "call back" to Xenoblade's Monado in the grass in front of the mechanical giant.

2017 for JPN maybe.
I really hope so.
I see 2017 as March to march so I'd be ok with January to March 2018 since it's more or less still "Winter 2017".
Of course, September to November would be awesome (assuming Mario is December)

Nice, after two great Xenoblade games, they want to kill the series with those stupid looking characters. Looks more like Tales of game than Xenoblade. :/

The character design "looks more like" so it becomes a tales of ?
What about... writing, story, directing ?

Yeah, the series is dead for sure. This teaser clearly shows that.

Character design looks BAAAD. Not XCX bad but close.

The first Xenoblade still has the best character design.

So much fucking hyperbole in this thread. They're damned if they do, damned if they don't with some people. The change in art style and characters is a huge step up from X, and even I felt that X wasn't as bad as some people made it out to be.

I don't think they hit lightning in a bottle with Xenoblade Chronicles, do people not understand the pedigree that Monolith has and the quality they've put out over the years? While each of their games has pros and cons, they've been very successful in crafting unique works that usually stand the test of time.

We've only seen a small teaser, but I for one am happy that they've decided to revisit the Xenoblade Chronicles world, and many of the original composers have returned.

But you know, fucking anime artstyle.

Hopefully people understand when the game comes out and get those amazing critics about its epic adventure.

Oh yeah a jrpg series will be killed because you don't like the characters. There's nothing else about this game.

In what world?

It blows my mind if people are being genuine with attacking the characters. The characters are good enough. All I care is to see the world and gameplay. I want to hear the AMAZING music and see how fun it will be to play just like Xenoblade Chronicles.

video artifacts aren't really anything to do with how finished a game is dude, lol. I saw plenty of cool stuff with him hopping on the hat, and they have a bunch of different areas modelled, it's obviously way past the gameplay design stage and in the finishing up tightening stuff stage.

Mario games thrive on their weird gameplay gimmicks and unique stages, they're not going to blow all their tricks in trailer 1

I think a lot of shit in here is straight up trolling. The character design is a huge step up from X's doll design, and while it is very anime-inspired, there's nothing wrong with that.

Maybe if the characters were inspired by boy bands or western developers, people wouldn't be complaining.

This game would have started development in early 2015, just before the japanese launch. So at this stage Monolithsoft's been developing Xeno 2 for 2 years now.

So I believe it's coming this year.

Would be godly
This and Mario could push me toward a (obvious? ) holiday bundle

As much as I agree with you I think you're not using the right term.
The character design of X is awesome, the problem comes from the 3D modeling and animation. It was ok but not good enough to give away the doll-like feel.

Xenoblade 2 get the HD + the nice modeling so if it continues with the good writing and story it's obviously a step in the right way.

Let's buy that holiday bundle together. Also the same plan I had in mind !
Love Xenoblade so much but that Mario also seems amazing.

I almost think they might have worked on the game before the beginning of 2015.
Anyway, in 3 years then can do a lot.

Because it's called Xenoblade 2.
Would it be the first series to release numbered titles that doesn't share the exat same world ?

People were assuming XenobladeX was related to Xenoblade and it already didn't make sense so I think it would be safer to not jump to conclusions yet.

I would not be surprised if this released in December of 2017.
Isn't Mario supposed to be in December ?

I never finished Xenoblade 1. I got to a point where giant spiders followed me late one night and NOPED out of the game.

Can someone that finished it tell me if the story ends in a way that could make this a direct sequel and require me to finish the game?

Is this intended to be a direct sequel to the first game?

Judging the new characters, new look and such, you'd think it'd be its own standalone installment, much like how X was. Maybe they could of called it "Xenoblade Chronicles Z" or something, lol. That's what I thought it would be called before they announced the title in the trailer.

Looks like there was a monado, probably takes place after the events of the first game.

I wanted to say that I can't believe how shitty the character art is but knowing it's Monolith... you know what, I can believe it.

One of those "if you could change one thing about a development studio..." kind of things I suppose, because I loved Xenoblade and especially Xenoblade X despite the shit character design.

But having a "2" doesn't mean it's a sequel anyway.
I'm also thining it feels quite different and for me 2 is like other series that use numbers without continuing the same story.

Why would a sword automaticaly be Monado ? For me it also wouldn't make sense after Xenoblade.
I actually also see the game as something quite different.

It perfectly ends and does't need a sequel so I'm sure even if there are links, it won't be big enough to make people have to play the first one id order to really enjoy it.

Xenoblade x isnt Xenoblade 2, right?
I mean exactly because they went from a weird X to a more straight 2

I kept skipping this topic, assuming it was an up-port of the WiiU game to pad out the launch window. Now I feel like a moron for forgetting that was called XCX.

Loved the first game, hoping they stick a little closer to its structure even if it's not a direct our related sequel.

Interesting that the EU trailers have a 12 rating and the North American trailer still has "rating pending".

Also noticed the font style for the subtitles in the trailer is the same font Nintendo of Europe used for the subtitles in Xenoblade Chronicles.

I think we're getting a British dub, guys.

This is the only thing that will make me excited for Xenoblade 2.

Btw has anyone made an estimate on the script size, assuming the trailer wasn't just using bullocks as flavoring? Behind Takahashi's name reveal, they were showing off 3 different pages of the game script, and they had page numbers indicating a total of 1124 pages or something like that. Each page isn't very long though.

Exactly

The producer said before that the "next Xenoblade" would be more traditional "like the first Xenoblade" so it's safe to assume it'll be far closer to 1 than X.

Yes.
Either X is a spin off (different genre, more open world with background than traditional Jrpg with main story driving everything) or a "sub series".
Keeping the name is obviously to build popularity/fanbase.

But either way it doesn't mean Xenoblade 2 is story related to the first one.

For many people the character design in X was significantly worse than in Chronicles, so it's quite possible for someone to think a) this is better than X but also b) Chronicles still looks significantly better (for all its flaws).

Anime literally does nothing for me - can't stand the style, don't enjoy stuff using it. I'm not the only person with that view - so for anyone thinking that, this reveal was a bad thing.

The vast majority will just be combat shout out like "I am feeling it"
Already transalted for the first episode

That is how they will be able to match the '17 release

Considering "anime" can be anything, it really seems like poor/fast judgment only over the design itself.
Art style is something, but it's a small fraction of what the game will be.
People are comparing it with takes of though I'm pretty sure it'll feel nothing like a tales of.

Classic judge a book by it's cover though I guess.
