Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers [Switch] Confirmed

SF4 literally has every SF2 character in it. this might have just been the cheaper/faster option to port over.
Yeah that's SF4's only redeemable quality to the point I was making. (IMO) EX moves, EX cancels, and everything else that made the SF series more niche than casual friendly needs to stay far away from this game.

Street Fighter at its best is Street Fighter 2....casual pick up and play, while still maintaining a high skill level for the competitive crowd. More importantly, it's the original crew and none of the bloat (again, my opinion) characters that came with the alpha and later series.

I have good news for you, then!

After watching Maximillians video on it I'm getting kind of hyped and hope it's not Switch exclusive.

You can turn graphics to original Super Turbo including the backgrounds. It's not a port of HDR with added stuff, so it's not the Sirlin mixup game like HDR, thank god.

Violent Ken seems way OP though

Hell for all we know this could be the warioware of SF ...Or Alpha 3 for PSP in the meaning of modes for everything.

The game was just announced and we don't have a release date. Wait to see if it is worth the price when we know exactly what is in the package

This game both seems like a giant Ono troll and proof Nintendo is desperate for third party games.

Nintendo: Ono-san! We need you to please make a game for the Switch!
Ono: Alright....I'll bring Street Fighter!
Nintendo: Hooray!
Ono: ...II.
Nintendo: ....oh...okay...
Ono: With 2D Graphics...
Nintendo: ...Okay...
Ono: And I'll add like, I dunno...two new characters.
Nintendo: Oh...Okay....
Ono: And it'll be a full price game!
Nintendo: Oh...Okay...

*Some time later*

Dev: Ono-san, why are we working on this again?
Ono: I DIDN'T THINK THEY'D SAY YES!!!

Of all the games that could have sent my hype way overboard, this is the one that did it for me. I was already excited for the Switch, especially with Zelda coming at launch ...but I was very much sleeping on the Switch's multiplayer potential. The thought of local multiplayer hasn't crossed my mind in well over a decade, but watching the presentation for USFII, I realize that this platform has so much potential to recapture that magic for me, in a completely new and unique way that I've never experienced before. Seeing all of the other great games, like Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon 2, was nice, but for whatever reason, the local play functionality didn't click for me until seeing it in action with USFII. And with that, I'm even more excited for those other games and their local multiplayer features as well.

I think if this was truly an Exclusive they would be mouthing off about it continuously.

"only on switch, nintendo exclusive, an experience that is solely on the switch" etc etc

The fact they have been relatively tight lipped about the whole thing makes me think that its either timed exclusive or not exclusive at all.

Well we know why Ryu was in Smash Bros. now.

Also, why are people freaking out about the price on this? It's fucking Capcom, if this thing is $40 at launch it'll be like $10 in like 6 months. I can't tell you how many times Capcom has put their Nintendo software on sale for $10 or less. Like you could almost bet that Resident Evil revelations was going to be on sale for $5 on 3DS at least once every three months. The price will go down. From what has been seen I don't think it's worth $40 but it won't stay that price for long if true.

Guess this is necessarily wireless?

That flap at the top is to store usb chords. The Switch dock has at least one usb port. Maybe this has wireless functionality too (because I don't know if you can wire two of them to one Switch), but I'm pretty sure you can use this wired.

Is this getting a retail release? Buying a new version of Street Fighter II game on a cartridge is kind of a nostalgia overload scenario for me.

I remember when people called me crazy for wanting a re-release for 3rd Strike on current consoles and PC because it supposedly would cannibalize SFV's sales but here we are, a new port of SFII.

Heck, if anything, this makes me hopeful again for that 3rd Strike re-release! (Hopefully one with an option to have new balancing and Wild Guns Reloaded style new characters drawn in the original's style).

This game is truly emblemic of the Switch's problem... it has 3rd party support, but it's paltry in comparison to the other consoles. Say what you want about SFV, but it's the LATEST GAMES in the Street Fighter series! Die hard fans of the series bought that day 1, whether they liked it or not. Nintendo's best efforts for fans of the Street Fighter series is to re-release the 2nd game again with prettier graphics? Really?

Imagine if the Switch launched with A Link to the Past HD. No one would buy it!

Hm, wonder if it is possible at all for Brook PCB to be firmware patched to work with Switch, or if the hardware will prevent it.

I paid good money for this Dynex!

Eh. By that same token, isn't getting something that isn't on the other current gen platforms more interesting, in a way? It's something unique.

And people would flip their shit if ALTTP HD was a thing. You're heavily underestimating the power of nostalgia.

Hey guys,

Ono was at the NYC Switch event. There was a neat little match thing going on at the event stage. He spoke about the game and some features. Honestly, I didn't listen or play the game though. I used that chance to line up for Zelda since most of the crowd were listening to Ono. Here's a quick pic I took(Nice Bape shirt Ono!):

It's not like Capcom can port SFV to the Switch, Sony paid for the game's development.

I prefer this version to SF4 and SF5. Purely for esthetic reasons. I can't be the only one.

HD graphics for this remake was ugly some years ago on X360 and PS3, now it's just awful! I was hoping for pixel graphics like the original arcade, I cannot believe people like those shitty retrace of original pixel art.

There is an option to play with the original graphics, voices, and backgrounds.

It has the pixel graphics as well. At least, the CPS3 ones. EDIT: Beaten.

Ahh I'm jealous. I wanted to get a picture with him but couldn't find him walking around. Oh well.

The crazy part about that is that while everyone was waiting at the stage for Ono, he was right behind everyone. I almost missed him till I saw lil Blanka being held by him posing for pics! Later on, I asked then Capcom USA rep if I could get another pic with my son. The rep said absolutlely, as Ono loves the kids taking pictures for the fans.

About that, I asked the Capcom USA rep that I noticed the speed of USF2 reminded me of vanilla SF2. The rep smiled and said that was exactly the throwback that the development team wanted.

C'mon, bruh. This is something that was addressed on the INITIAL reveal trailer.

Man, it's like people just post stuff and don't read/watch trailers here....sheesh. Classic pixel art/sprites has been confirmed since the start! :\

...did someone say 'full price' as in $60??

Surely not.
Nothing confirmed yet except for the Japanese price for now. It's definitely not gonna be $60, a lot of signs are pointing to $40 since they're adding more modes but haven't revealed all the content inside so it's best to just wait.

The problem with HDR visually was the godawful energy bars, super meters, victory stars and fonts, the bland character select screen, the nasty redone character portraits and not being able to have the original backgrounds when using the old sprites.

HDR as a package looked cheap and nasty, like it was made by people with no taste. USF2 fixes all of these flaws and shows definitively that the new sprites and backgrounds weren't the problem (although I will always the prefer the originals), it was all the other visual elements.

People would lose their shit for LTTP HD.

those are sf5 assets arent they...

maybe it's a weird 12 switch style minigame

Those are street fighter 4 assets, because street fighter 5 is co-produced and exclusive to Sony.

It will be a crappy first person VR mini game. Calling it now.

This game actually looks very tempting. The fact that it doesn't mess with the UI, and has both CPS2 stages and characters potentially make this the definitive version of SSF2T. If this is about 40, there must be much more to this package as Capcom usually offers their digital remasters for less (like the RE's or DMC4 SE).

HD Remix was shit. It wasn't only the style I didn't like, its the fact SF2 doesn't have that many animations. Its fine with the old graphics, but with remixed characters it came off as shit. And while the old sprites were in, they looked terrible when placed on the HD backgrounds.
