It's important to remember that we still don't have the full picture. There's whatever this is meant to be for one.

Maybe some sort of ARMS like mini-game?

This game actually looks very tempting. The fact that it doesn't mess with the UI, and has both CPS2 stages and characters potentially make this the definitive version of SSF2T. If this is about 40, there must be much more to this package as Capcom usually offers their digital remasters for less (like the RE's or DMC4 SE).

HD Remix was shit. It wasn't only the style I didn't like, its the fact SF2 doesn't have that many animations. Its fine with the old graphics, but with remixed characters it came off as shit. And while the old sprites were in, they looked terrible when placed on the HD backgrounds.

Arcade ST is still gonna be the definitive version of ST (and SFII in general) because the re-balancing and extra characters here will not go over well with the diehards.

No matter how great the changes are, the people who play ST the most will still prefer ST over this.

The best we can hope for is that this is good enough to sustain its own community for longer than HDR did.

This clearly is a mini-game or a side-story mode where you beat Shadaloo goons and eventually that results in regular 2D fights with stage bosses aka Bison or the rest.

Those are street fighter 4 assets, because street fighter 5 is co-produced and exclusive to Sony.

It will be a crappy first person VR mini game. Calling it now.

Maybe some sort of ARMS like mini-game?

That's the kind of thing I imagine but it definitely goes a long way to justifying a higher price tag.

fuck this game throw techs what the fuck. super turbo is so good because the pacing is so fast with only being able to reduce the damage throws do

now you'll have no reason to go for throws as much because they can dp/tech and reset it to neutral, risk outweighs the gain (especially since it did so little to violent ken unless he has high hp for whatever reason) :/

What's a tech throw and why is it a big deal?

I may be mistaken, but I think what they're referring to is the ability to escape throws without taking damage. It's a big deal because throws are now worth much less.

Unless they're referring to the thing where you can hit someone with a jab and then throw them while they're blocking?

I'm guessing it's when he blocks the initial throw attempt?

Yes when they separate from each other after the throw attempt that is the throw tech they added. Before there was throw softening, where you would take less damage from a throw after being thrown and do something like land on your feet instead of your back, so you are in a slightly better position than if you didn't soften it. You can die while attempting to throw soften before. Now with throw techs, you don't take any damage and both players are in a neutral state if it occurs. Which means throwing will be less effective than before, since it will effect things like ending rounds because throwing to end a round was very effective before since even if they soften it, they will die if they had low health, but throw teching will make it so it can't happen anymore.

Got it, thanks for the explanation. I play these games very casually and don't know all the lingo.

I actually love throw techs

It also means throw is weak punch + kick

The problem with throw techs in SF2 is turtling is very strong. The answer to somebody blocking all day is normally to throw, but now they can block or tech throws all day. You've taken away the paper, and now all you got left is rocks and scissors. Maybe they've added something else to keep the game's offense/defense balance, but there's cause for concern if you love classic SF2 gameplay.

I really hope this is an option down the line, because if this system is going to have 2D games on it, its going to need a real D-pad.

Agreed 100%. I brought up the same concern in the thread about Neo-Geo games coming to Switch. Don't really want to purchase a pro controller at launch. Release a standalone left joy-con(with a legit d-pad) for $35-$40 and I'll be happy.

Part of me doubts they will do this over the possibilty it'd discourage people from taking along the default joy cons for sponataneous on-the-go multiplayer -- an advertising point for the system.

In other words: They really want people to "share the joy"

This is the most baffling thing about the Switch presentation. The one video game company known for producing AAA platformers with the best D-Pad in the industry...doesnt have a D-Pad standard and doesn't offer a clear replacement. Rayman, Ultra Street Fighter II and Sonic Mania is going to be a train wreck without a Pro Controller.

They can't use SFV assets, Sony paid for those.

It's not like Sony owns the assets, they just helped with making the development quicker. IIRC without Sony's help, Ono said SFV would've probably been released in 2018. Shadaloo goon is definitely from SFV while Ryu and the stage is from SFIV.

Yes, but Sony paid for the development of SFV so said game can come out faster.

Then why is sf5 on steam?
Might want to reword that better :x
How about this, Sony likely dictates if Capcom can use the SFV assets or not (as per SFV being a PS4 console exclusive). How's that wording?

We need this.

I can't even imagine playing 2D games (Sonic Mania, Neo-Geo games) with the current buttons. I hope that Nintendo addresses this issue and releases a joycon with a proper d-pad.

I don't see why they would. This is a launch game, right? Early adopters aren't gonna have much to play so this will sell like hotcakes regardless of pretty much everything else.

I remember when people called me crazy for wanting a re-release for 3rd Strike on current consoles and PC because it supposedly would cannibalize SFV's sales but here we are, a new port of SFII.

Heck, if anything, this makes me hopeful again for that 3rd Strike re-release! (Hopefully one with an option to have new balancing and Wild Guns Reloaded style new characters drawn in the original's style).
