The smart phone app that we're creating, that will be part of our online service, we believe is going to be a very compelling part of the overall proposition because that's how you'll voice chat, that's how you'll do your matchmaking, and create your lobby. We also think it's a very elegant solution because if you've taken your switch on the go, you've put yourself in a hotspot, you're looking at get a quick match of Mario Kart in, to whip out some sort of bulky, gamer headset is a bit of a challenge.

So we think we've got an elegant solution. That's a very specific answer to your question.

Needing two devices to do the work only one should be doing isn't elegant to me, but I use a big bulky headset so what do I know?

Yeah Reggie made this pretty clear in numerous interviews he had. The main argument he seemed to have was that they didn't want people carrying headsets with them if they wanted to chat on the go.

I mean I think it's fine to have this as a mobile option in addition to a solution on the console but as the only way to voice chat it's bullshit.

I don't think Nintendo fans use online multiplayer. Honestly, I consider myself one and really only played Smash and Mario Kart online for a few hours at most. I generally prefer local couch co-op or playing bots/computers.
